Expectation vs reality really kicked analysts all kinds of ass with the overall outcome of the Top 20. Thinking back to it, each of their analytical criteria played both with and against the reasoning they stated. By explanation at the start of the Top 20 stream:
- Papasmithy focused on the Patch and the lane of focus being that of Top Lane
- Deficio stated that Summer Split then the year round matters along with past performance at Worlds and expectations.
- Jatt honed in on recency with variance to uncertainty for rookies.
Be all that as it may, it felt like the Top 20 yet again rode off of a region-fixed analysis and plugging in the team first then the player, not the other way around. Among that list, there were quite a few players that weren't doing anything extraordinary; they were just there because of "a few weeks ago" then last year completely wiping out the season.
The list, before and after, felt very unfair to the Western base and this year more so than ever. Had it been me it'd probably have produced a Dade Award out of Xmithie, given regards to Kikis, kick Gen.G to the bottom of the list at best, and most importantly not oversell rookies.
