Only 3 of Top 20 players still playing at Worlds 2018

Either the casters got it wrong, or individual talent doesn't matter in LoL. Currently there are only 2 players from IG and Caps from FNT still playing at worlds. The other 17 players on their list have been eliminated.

Not a single member of C9 or G2 made their list and those two teams could be playing in the finals.

I think the casters need to make a public apology to the snubbed players. Time to ear some crow, boys.

I believe they were selected as best players in world based on their stats. Stats on their regional league.

What this Worlds shown is that Korea, Chinese and Taiwai were stuck playing old meta and get beaten by team playing different style than the one they played in their league. Style that is probably the new meta in a way most effective tactic available rather than most popular/often tactic used".

But seriously it always seemed to me that eastern teams are unable to play against anything that deviates from what they are used to. So often they dropped games to non-meta or even off-meta picks. But they always banned that pick and forced enemy to play their game. Now, with so many possibilities they cannot ban all these picks and that proved be one of the reason they are out of this Worlds.

Expectation vs reality really kicked analysts all kinds of ass with the overall outcome of the Top 20. Thinking back to it, each of their analytical criteria played both with and against the reasoning they stated. By explanation at the start of the Top 20 stream:

  • Papasmithy focused on the Patch and the lane of focus being that of Top Lane
  • Deficio stated that Summer Split then the year round matters along with past performance at Worlds and expectations.
  • Jatt honed in on recency with variance to uncertainty for rookies.

Be all that as it may, it felt like the Top 20 yet again rode off of a region-fixed analysis and plugging in the team first then the player, not the other way around. Among that list, there were quite a few players that weren't doing anything extraordinary; they were just there because of "a few weeks ago" then last year completely wiping out the season.

The list, before and after, felt very unfair to the Western base and this year more so than ever. Had it been me it'd probably have produced a Dade Award out of Xmithie, given regards to Kikis, kick Gen.G to the bottom of the list at best, and most importantly not oversell rookies.

Apologize for what exactly? For predicting wrong? Should they also make a public apology because tournament favourites have been knocked out? Don't be silly.

Even pros need more than 10 bans to stabilize what has been a really bullshit meta for the actual best teams and players to shine.
