He can just ultimate across the screen any time for free kills and does unbelievable damage 24/7 anyway. The reason I think Edge of Night is healthy for the game and shouldn't really be changed is to exist as solid counterplay for stupid champions like Karthus.
I mean it's a global ultimate that does damage. Literally almost zero counterplay, literally.

I really dont get the whole "karthus is so weak because ppl have to build full items to counter 1/5th of his ult" when his winrate has never dropped below 51~52%.
Joxcab1 votesEven with Haunting Guise (Liandry's doesn't gain any bonus Magic Penetration), Sorcerer's Boots, and Void Staff, and then any additional Magic Penetration from runes or masteries, it still doesn't deal true damage unless people build MR. Runes and masteries and then full MP items gives 43.83 flat and Void Staff's percent penetration. Void Staff is usually one of the last purchased items along with Rabadon's. A single 720 gold Negatron Cloak (40 magic resist) almost completely negates all of the flat pen portion of it, until whenever Void Staff is finished. And it's not like its completion components are useless either.
No one ever said Karthus is weak in this thread. He's also an extremely rare champion.

Oh look, is this another person crying about URF not having karthus, kassadin and so many other broken champions that were originally perma'banned now being available in URF again? At the very least Karthus is not as bad as so many other particular champions who get global nukes or TPs and can deal considerably large amount of damage, some of which can go into steroids op in URF.
I won't list all of them, but Karthus is far from a overpowered tier as many other champions who can delete literally any opponent due to builds (cough high ap scaling cough Lethality abuse stacking cough ridiculously strong and untouched mechanics cough).

A Doorknob1 votesProblem is, edge of night is hypocritical of an item. Pink wards were removed because they were "broken" as they completely countered champs like EVE and Vayne. Spiderqueen band was nerfed because it countered ZED's ult. By Riot's logic if we were to follow it, edge of night is therefore an unhealthy item to have in the game as it can counter Karthus, and other champ abilities like lux's ult for a very cheap cost. As it stand, if we are to follow Riot's logic, it's an unhealthy item. As well, it seems that only the AD champs are getting these great items while AP champs are not receiving much of anything. For too long all they've been really given is Zhonyas. Riot ought to come up with more items that give AP carries more survivability. Not every AP carry has range of a Xerath. I'm looking at Kass, Diana, Elise, Ekko, Fish, etc.

Except for many untargetibility spells, barrier, so many shields, spell shields, building mr, healing, exhaust, magic shields, the fact that its the only spell he has that isn't countered by mobility, it's long cooldown, silence, zhonya's, anything that interrupts spell casts...
I think I just listed something for every champ in the game.
Soraka is nearly a hard counter for this guy as she has a silence, a heal that has a cooldown that nearly matches his q(main source of damage) and is heals for more than the skill does damage, easy way to hit her q for healing(he is immobile), and her ult is on a shorter cooldown and heals for more than his ult does by the time he uses it(which would be when the target is below 40% health most likely) and only has a .05% less ap ratio.
