THe "solo badge" will fail like honor ribbons in the long run.

Irelia Bot··87 votes·4,244 views

Yes some people will be excited about it for a while, but when there are bronze and silvers who got boosted to plat or higher in groups while still playing like a bronze or silver the validity of ranked is compromised.

I don't even feel any reason to get back to plat this season. It literally means nothing anymore. Only holding on to gold should the victorious skin be a champ that I like.

uhhhhhhh~~~~~~ you mean that honor trash system Riot Lyte wasted time working which is useless and has no meaning?

Question what Lyte actually work on to deserve a high position with huge pay other then a robot tribunal system? After every match I use to keep on seeing "HONOR FOR ALL". Lol like that ribbon even means anything.

Irelia Bot12 votes

I am trying to say the craze for honor ribbons died and the value of a solo badge would die as well since you really get nothing because of it.

LegendmakerGX10 votes

Ya I know, Riot just doing something that has no meaning and pretty much a waste of work force to cover up this seasons pool of crap over and over again.

Troll for Trump1 votes

The robot tribunal system probably took a lot of work, but still, it's a lot worse than the Tribunal, which has been down for a long time.

Was Lyte the one working on updating the Tribunal?

Dextix LT1 votes

Wait, you actually believe they worked on tribunal after they killed it?

Dude....... Sorry to say, but they have abandoned tribunal long ago.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

You could expect a psychology PhD to know how important communication is. Especially with a community like this. Still he decided to just keep being silent about Tribunal, like he did with SoloQ. Which in the end cost his job i guess bc riot trusted him and after they saw the inferno on the boards they decided to fire him. Still he sits in a position like this for over 2 years earning 80k p.a. (just guessing, dunno actually xD)

LegendmakerGX1 votes

Yo dude...He was suppose to work on it for 2 years...The guy did not deserve his position if you ask me....2 YEARS FOR TRIBUNAL, then he release this robot system.. That was practically Riot Lyte prime job which I don't get why it took 2 years. He really did nothing then anything if you ask me. Honor system,Robot report system,Dynamic duo? Only thing I liked that he did was Hextec which of course anyone would like since it's free skin. O yeah also the afk remake system but the problem he left before it was even finished which makes me question did he even contribute anything for that project?

I don't think the solo badges will fail "in the long run" as opposed to "failed before even being implemented". The problem is that the badges feel more like a participation awards for kids who take last place in a race. There is nothing rewarding about being a known solo player, let alone a known premade player (that's more likely to cause hate more than anything). There is even less of a point to get a solo badge then there is to get lvl 7 mastery.

The sad thing is that this shows that they COULD figure out who are mostly premade players and who are mostly solo players and adjust things so solo player teams end up facing other solo teams and premades end up with premades, but they decided to give pointless badges instead.

DarkRitual3 votes

They already know who plays solo and in groups. It only helps you figure out who in your team is someone who plays more solo or premade games.

Dr Birdie5 votes

People got boosted in the old system too. So all ranks in the past 6 years have been invalid according to your logic.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

Still you need to carry 4 people on your own. 3 minimum. Carrying as a solo booster is much harder than with a 3 men premade team against a full solo team with enough effort you can take down the smurf. Not as easy when two of three lanes/roles are smurfs.

Blanchimont2 votes

I agree. Most of the time in my ranked games, the entire game is decided by one person who completely crushes their lane or jungle is able to roam. Dynamic Queue feels less like a team game and more like who can carry harder. In all of my ranked games this season (close to 170 at this point), I have only had two games I ever considered close.

69982196_DEL4 votes

Long run? It means noyhing right now.

Orangesilk3 votes

It makes no-one happy anyways. I used to play exclusively team ranked because, well, I loved that shit, it was fun and solo queue toxicity was too much for me.

So when it got scrapped, we kinda just played 5-mans in dynamic queue because there was no alternative to it. Now we'll get a "Brand of shame" because we'd rather not be subject to solo queues toxicity.

That means that we now absolutely can't ever under any circumstance play solo queue ever, because the group badge will get us flamed to hell and back. Yay.

Oakleaf Ranger2 votes

A lot of toxicity dropped after the introduction of the new champion select and dynamic queue according to Riot but unfortunately they can't say whether it was due to Dynamic or the new champion select or a combination of both. Personally I think it was the new champion select that was the main cause while dynamic queue just created a potentially bigger source of toxicity.

IMO the badge system is the definition of a Band-Aid solution to this problem that will probably cause more harm than good with any positive side effects being short lived. Objectively I don't think it will significantly change anything but emotionally I think its gonna be fun and feel good to point out the boosted animals and shame them. However from Riot's perspective I imagine that doesn't line up with their intentions/goals and wouldn't be surprised if the badges got changed or removed at some point. Still going to be fun to shame and flame boosted animals though.

NotSpecialDude7 votes

There's one problem with that though. The badge doesn't give context. Namely the person could have the dynamic badge but played with a group of equal or lesser skill.

Boosted animals don't exist. A majority of the d badges will go to people like me who plays with his buddies on rank because normals isn't as serious as we'd like.

It's a superficial icon that should mean nothing, but it will lead to a lot of toxicity and cruel treatment. It's the scarlet letter for league, and it will kill any kind of momentum for soloq returning. Since without a doubt the solos will be the toxic ones.

Dextix LT1 votes

Well, who cares? There isnt any momentum for soloq anyways.

Yea, there is community response, but Riot doesnt give a fck.

NotSpecialDude1 votes

Actually no, this whole badge system was implement as a band-aid system for soloq players as they hope they can tough out the season.

I'm repeating smarter people when I say that its guaranteed riot will change the queue system, but only after S6 so as to not completely screw the current rankings. (Don't bring up the validity of those rankings into this argument, I seriously don't want to get sidetracked again)

If they, however, find that the majority of toxic players are of the soloq variety and that they openly mock dynamic players, then without a doubt they are going to buckle down on the dynamic queue, or implement a system that rewards dynamic players in a way that is not cosmetic to compensate.

Also I play with buddies on ranked a lot. I have a reason to care.

Oakleaf Ranger1 votes

Oh I'm sure there will be cases like that too, but at the end of the day I have solo badge and you having anything else its just gonna be easier say your boosted end of discussion. Well that's how I see it playing out with players. Its a superficial icon that should mean nothing, but will it? Nope now your either going fall under the category of boosted or solo queue. However I think there will be plenty of times in games where a really bad player will stand out and when others see dynamic badge, first thing that will pop out is your boosted and you don't belong in your current standing. Fun times ahead.

MadCowNinja1 votes

Imho the badge system is just a bone they tossed us to chew on for a bit. But what they didn't tell you is that the bone marrow was replaced with feces. But we aren't supposed to know that.

Oakleaf Ranger1 votes

lmao that's sick

Elikain3 votes

"Bronze and Silvers got boosted to Plat". The difference between these 2 tiers and Platinum is so high that you're suggesting whoever boosted these people could have perfectly played 4v5 at least.

And how would emblems fall off? You're getting them based on the last 25 games played and depending whether you played solo, DQ or in a team. The system gives them to you, players are not awarding them to you.

BloodyTompon1 votes

Also, if they're maintaining a 50% win rate in plat as former bronze, I'd argue that they deserve to be there. If they play solo and are shit, they'll fall. If they don't and continue to be consistent, they'll maintain the rank.

Elikain1 votes

That's the exact comment one of the Rioters said. If you can hold on your own for 25 games in your Tier, don't you deserve to be there? 25 games is quite a number, and not even streamers who play for 8 - 10 hours a day actually play this much games in a day. Playing SR 25 x 30 minutes is 12.5 hours of playing, not even taking into account queue times between each games and champion select.

Someone also said that a % of games for these emblems would have been better and there's a problem with that as well. If Emblems would have been retroactive and for the people who had played hundreds of ranked games, literally switching one type of an emblem for another (for someone with 100 DQ games and my 80:20 distribution so that there's no abuse cases with 51:49), that would require 400 games to get rid of it. That's a lot of games, where 25 meager games is 12.5 hours. Imagine how much of a time sink would this be if Riot would implement something like this.

No one is excited about it as it is, it won't even be like honor badges, at least honor badges meant something

GaleWinUnleashed2 votes

At least the badge thing doesn't require completely optional input from strangers. This is tied to something we're already doing, unlike the honor system which was introduced with almost zero incentive or reward.

Its a good step in the right direction. A large part of what killed motivation for solo players to rank up was the idea that noone could tell whether they had earned their rank on their own or gotten potentially carried there by dynamic groups.

With this badge I can now hold my head high and play ranked again, knowing that people can tell I earned my rank. The biggest complaint of pro dynamic queue players with this change is that they don't want to have a dynamic player 'mark of shame' on their acount and there is a simple solution to that: you just have to get over half your wins in ranked as a solo player.

That's it. Put in the effort to prove you can hang at your elo without your buddies to cover for for you and you can hold onto a solo q badge while still playing with friends in ranked about half the time. You'll probably even feel better and more satisfied with yourself if you are capable of maintaining your elo in solo and be able to play dynamic more comfortable when you do group up with friends.

If you choose to play ranked in a way that would make you feel 'shamed' if others could tell what you were doing... then maybe you should think about why you feel that way and take some steps to change. If you don't feel shamed by having a dynamic badge then good for you, it doesn't matter. It only matters to the players it matters to - like me and other people whose perception of what ranked skill means from playing in the past 5 seasons. If you don't hold the same perceptions or are fine adapting to the new way of doing things and don't mind everyone knowing that you play mostly with premades, then this shouldn't matter to you.

Blanchimont2 votes

I disagree. I want a pure Solo Queue. I don't want to play in some incomplete version of ranked teams just because other people can't find enough for a 5v5.

FourVsFive2 votes

Sad part of the badge is if they putting time in making something like this as useless as it may be, then we not gonna be seeing Solo que any time soon.

Blanchimont2 votes

Unless that badge unlocks Solo Queue for me, it's pretty pointless.

The Deckowner2 votes

Dynamic queuers will all be recognized as boosted animals. Solo queuers gets nothing.

Nope. My last ban was in season 2 or three. Since then no further punishment. And definitely not in season 5. I have victorious elise, morgana and a ward skin? If one of those is for last season?

Marshbouy1 votes

They cannot change it mid season because, People would have gotten to these positions by being carried. They can no longer be carried. they will feed there way to bronze. the current rankings are based on DQ. Removing DQ would fuck everything up. its much better just to attempt to fix it now and change it out at the end of the season RIOT painted themself into a corner. They realized they cannot have the two queues side by side after they had promised to bring back SoloQ and they can't switch it out this late into the season. What i think they are trying to do now is fix DQ and if they can't get it fixed by s7 they will bring back soloQ. They wouldn't dare say it at this point though.

Blanchimont1 votes

It's never too late to fix it. In fact, they were intending to change it mid season based on Riot Lyte's original announcement where they were going to implement Solo Queue again a few weeks into Dynamic Queue. Instead, Riot bailed and left us with the garbage that is currently Dynamic Queue. Dynamic Queue alone is a broken system that CANNOT be fixed under any circumstances because the concept itself is broken. You cannot force solo players into premade groups and just hope it will work out. A premade group/team inherently has an advantage over solo queue players that CANNOT be measured by just MMR/elo. That is why LCS is consisted of teams instead of the top 50 master/challenger players, which would be a better showcase of the best talent that they have to offer. They may have started off as individual players, but they are more than that, they are teams.

Really? Because they had 3 queues side by side under the old system. Why is it suddenly too hard to have 2?

you can't be serious can you? You cant. Oh shit you are. I'll be civil since apparently responding to people who are being dumb in a slightly triggering way gets me taken down.

Oh jesus i just deleted everything i wrote for the past 20 minutes.

Here we go again. I am making it shorter because i have a life to live rn. The 3 old queues were solo/duoQ 3 man TT 5 man SR You played them because You wanted a true "solo" experience (or close to) You wanted to play with 2 friends in premades on twisted treeline. You wanted to play with 4 friends in a premade on summoner's rift. These are all fundamentally different from each other.

The issue with DQ and soloQ being next to each other is that they both have the option of being solo. SoloQ is the true ranked experience, DQ isn't. People who were very serious about ranked would go to soloQ. That means that there are no solo players to fill gaps in matchmaking. (3+1+1, 4+1, ECT). Queue times would be long. On top of that DQ would basically become normal games 2.0 with really long queues because the solo players would go to soloQ. No one would take DQ players seriously.

People already don't take Dynamic Queue players seriously and the upcoming badge won't do anything to fix it. People frequently call them boosted because it does not feel like they earned their elo/mmr/rank if they did it in a group. You know, like ranked teams. Right now, ranked teams are basically being measured by the same system as Solo Queue players under Dynamic Queue and that is what people dislike and is a very common criticism of Dynamic Queue. If Dynamic Queue isn't a true ranked experience, then it should not have been the replacement for all of ranked. Dynamic Queue is a replacement for ranked teams and that's exactly what it should have been, for people who wanted to play in ranked teams, but do not have enough players. It is unfair to measure the skill a group that has been playing together over a long time with the same method that you do for five random players.

If your solo players hate Dynamic Queue, it is a serious sign that something is wrong with the system and needs to be addressed. People have been waiting for several MONTHS for Riot to address the issue, but they have done absolutely nothing other than cancel plans for the Solo Queue. Solo players SHOULD NOT be used to fill in gaps for a team that cannot find players. Teams have substitutes on their roster for a reason. You don't just go outside and pick up random people just because you don't have enough players (there are actually people who did that before in real life sports though).

In the end game screen, you have a choice to honor people in the game. Honorable Opponent for enemies and then teamwork, friendly, or helpful for allies. If a summoner gets enough of certain honors per game, they get a ribbon. But that number is pretty high and barely anybody has them nowadays. They're little red, blue, green, or yellow ribbons on the top corner of your loading border picture.

I still have a teamwork ribbon. Had it for a long time back when I played the game nonstop. Usually tried to always have good sportsmanship since I know how shitty it is to play with trolls/flamers.

Outside of my own I rarely see them. Sucks because it was a pretty cool thing to have back in the day when you could get them. Especially since they could be revoked if you got reported too much.

But oh well... just another thing I'll miss about the game :'( Just like the Tribunal..
