Is this Sion buff too much to ask for?

I wanted a small buff for Sion. This buff is in relation to the item: item 3800. It's one of my most favorite items to build for its passive. One thing i wish was for Sion to have more of an interaction with it.

The buff i ask for is for Sion to be able to activate it's passive while he ults. Why? I think this would be a great addition for Sion because if you jungle him (like i do), you would initially gank with his ult. With that being said, as you zoom by your teammates, they may not have the same movement speed or mobility to catch up once he hits the target. A good example of this would be with Jinx Jhin ect.

I feel that if he was able to activate the righteous glory passive while ulting, it would add for a stellar engage in team fights and ganks and give him a well deserved buff of some sort.

What do you think?

I don't care if I get to slap people a little harder, Maybe be able to take some more slaps yell at people a little louder or run at people a little harder But ANY Sion buff is welcome :3 summoner 31

The only buff Sion needs is to bring back his size before they made him smaller. Just look so intimidating the enemy opens mid.

Too strong. Sion is in a good place right now. Why add something like that basically gives him a sivir ult ON TOP of the damage and cc he already gets with it.

Love the downvotes. A change like this basically removes counter play from his ult except for flash.

alagore26 votes

Because he had to spend gold on an item to get it? Literally all this is asking is for Sion to be able to activate an item while ulting.

mikemcparty1 votes

Sion ults to get an additional movement speed boost, aoe cc, and damage. You want to essentially allow him to use this active to increase his speed down lane, effectively making his ult more difficult to dodge. Additionally, it is going to give his allies a HUGE movement speed boost. Are you kidding? You have never been able to use actives while using a non-disruptable ult. This goes for any champ.

MistaMac33 votes

"While Unstoppable Onslaught is active, Sion's movement speed is hard capped at 950. As a consequence of this, building movement speed items will only cause him to gain ground over the initial acceleration and does not grant a significant increase in total distance travelled." - taken from wiki.

So yeah...

mikemcparty1 votes

"Gain ground over the initial acceleration," which means reaches his max speed quicker. Which allows him to enter teamfights quicker and gank significantly quicker. He can reach that cap much faster is what I'm saying.

So yeah... Removing counter play is not a healthy buff. Sion is strong enough as is.

kasfas4 votes

But that isn't removing counter play, it's not like it makes him steer more effectively, And it doesn't make the global ult sound not run.

mikemcparty1 votes

It makes it easier and quicker for him to engage, reducing counterplay.

Zenthon Prime3 votes

Are you seriously suggesting that Sion ult is low counterplay? You do realize that it gets whiffed constantly (even by pros) for a reason, right?

MisterHealYoGirl1 votes

Not true, actually. Just off the top of my head, Galio can cast his Bulwark and activate items while he ults, and Fiddlesticks can use Health Potions while Drain channels.

mikemcparty1 votes

Hence why I said a non-disruptable ult. Both galio and fiddle are targetable when using their ultimates. Fiddle can be killed and galio is aoe taunt.

MisterHealYoGirl1 votes

How is Sion's CC immunity while he ults relevant to whether or not he can use active items? I was pointing out other champions who can use actives while they channel abilities, which is what the OP was talking about.

mikemcparty1 votes

Because other champions can be targeted/disrupted while using their ults. Picture this, sion build zhonyas (for the active). He uses his ultimate and realizes he going too far in the wrong direction, so he uses zhonyas to prevent his continued movement pattern. To me, that seems broken. When he ults, it should be a commitment, especially with his lore and tankiness.

Using the active of righteous glory is alright, but Riot needs to be careful. It could potentially lead to a situation where Sion is just ulting past his team and creating a hard engage for the WHOLE team (not the intended purpose of his ult)

MisterHealYoGirl1 votes

Zhonya's Hourglass applies Stasis, which is a kind of CC that would stop SIon completely. And even if it didn't and you realize that your ult is probably going to miss, in what earthly universe is 'Zhonya's for 2.5 seconds, ENSURING that my ult misses' better than 'reactivate my ult to do the full damage and reduced CC to everybody nearby'.

Also, creating a hard engage for the whole team is EXACTLY what his ult is for, and exactly what Righteous Glory is for. It's just that, unlike other engage tanks like Sejuani, Hecarim, and Maokai, Sion's engage is channeled, so he can't use it effectively. All the OP is asking for is a minor buff to how Sion interacts with one item (which has already been done for several other champions) to let him use it at the same level as everyone else.

JQKAndrei20 votes

Too strong? Activating an item that you bought is too strong? Logic?

mikemcparty1 votes

Yes. Using an item while you have an already heightened movement speed ult to provide that and more to your allies is too strong.

JQKAndrei18 votes

So by the same logic MasterYi or Sivir can't use item 3800 either right?

hint: they can.

mikemcparty1 votes

Hint: they also don't have aoe cc and damage attached to their ult. Come on. Part of sions ultimate is that you hear the global noise and you have some time to brace or dodge before he gets you. It's called counter play. Now, you want to make it so that he can essentially go from base movement speed to his cap in a shorter amount of time. I don't think so.

JQKAndrei11 votes

I don't believe the item would increase his ult movespeed, because If that's so then any speed up like Lulu's would work, his speed is fixed when ulting, the purpose of using item 3800 is to give allies a tool to catch up with sion when he engages.

Maximum Morde4 votes

It would cause weird interactions with him ulting with items, not that I'm sure that would be a problem. Would Zhonyas cause his ult to interrupt or would he be a charging gold statue?

MistaMac1 votes

I think this would interrupt his ulti since his ult is a channel

Maximum Morde1 votes

But isn't he immune to stuns/slows etc while ulting?

SoMNia3 votes

Mechanically speaking, Zhonya's is neither of those. It is stasis. I believe (have not tested) that Bard ult can stop Sion.

Maximum Morde4 votes

Test it and report back, the world must know!

You mean the active, right?

Lol... Like popping your shield mid-ult... That would be awesome! XD

KrugLyfe3 votes

I mean this would be great but i'd also like the option to instantly detonate my shield. It's annoying especially when you lane against rivens becasue even if you activate it ahead of time they always dash out before you can pop it on them. Or they just burst the shield at early levels.

FastAsHeck8 votes

thats the whole point of the ability. either the enemies break it or they get punished for it.

Ulquiorra9958 votes

And since they increased the delay it's almost always the first of those two. He could really use having that detonation 1 second earlier to make him more reliable.

Ralanr1 votes

I tend to max his shield first and I don't have too much of a problem. His two other abilities are pretty easy to avoid and are best used for their CC rather than damage (and the knock up doesn't increase in duration I think).

Course I play him to be as tanky as possible for my team. I've already gotten used to blocking all four of Jhin's ult shots as Sion. Didn't break my shield until the end (course I was kinda fed and he wasn't).

FastAsHeck2 votes

I agree, he was nerfed too hard

SoMNia3 votes

I assume you mean the active. Can't you stand next to your team and activate RG before ulting? Seems like an unnecessary precedent for activating items while channeling, that could cause complications later.

macromite3 votes

ult gains damage and stun duration with distance, so you should really start ulting behind your team.

kasfas2 votes

What I really hope is that riot looks back at Sion and brings him into viability again. I mean how many things has the community come up with to buff him?

CasterGilgamesh4 votes

sion is viable but its just kinda difficult to work with him since his moves and spells are so pronounced and easy to predict

kasfas1 votes

Problem of is, he isn't really viable... Others do his job better than him, juggernauts for damage and tanks for cc. He's kinda stuck in the middle with no place to go. Not enough damage to be a juggernaut, but not enough (reliable) cc to be an effective tank. I just think he needs more overall utility in some of his abilities and he'll be fine, like if his passive stole a % of HIS max hp and not his enemies, if his q slow scaled rather than being set at .25 seconds, if his shield wasn't utter garbage till rank 2 + 2.5k hp, or if his e slow didn't scale with rank, and perhaps instead with hp/armour/level/bonus hp or something the like. That's what I think he needs most.

CasterGilgamesh4 votes

i actually understand and even side with sion getting buffs but to call him unviable isnt really fair

Ralanr1 votes

I can understand at higher Elos because people have better positioning (since Sion punishes poor positioning). But he's fine in lower Elos.

Unless the enemy outright counters him. Fiora is kinda popular.

kasfas1 votes

He is actually really good against Fiora, because of her self-root. She can't parry your q (if you can time it effectively) meaning you win easy, and since most of her non-true damage is physical and most Sions want to start FH or IBG if they're good, you effectively out duel Fiora in lane (that however assumes you aren't bad at Sion). Late game doesn't matter though, Fiora is always relevant late, and beats your health stacking ass with steraks and titanic. (which is why she needs nerfs).

But yea, the higher you get Elo-wise, the less effective Sion gets because they will pretty much just ignore you. That's why, despite his health stacking seemingly good late game, he is weakest late game; there is more mobility and health, meaning sions base damages do little, and no one can get caught by his q, that's why boots are a good buy vs Sion in lane ( assuming you don't get hit by every one of his Es)

Ralanr1 votes

I was referring to late. Late is when Sion is his strongest should he be allowed to stack. Fiora negates that entirely.

I mean she does counter him. It only makes sense that she troubles him throughout a game.

kasfas1 votes

But late is Sions weakest point, because of how easily he is bypassed by every kind of mobility in the game. He needs more to be useful late, and that's another place he could use buffs.

KrugLyfe3 votes

If they upped how much hp he got from his w passive depending on how many times you level it up i'd be happy.
