Finally realized why Riot patches A LOT

New content (re-works, VU, new champions, rune/mastery/item balance) = new content that users can purchase --> more money.

The philosophy is simple, more people buy new things, patching/new champs/skins/re-works = more sales, that's why Riot patches a lot.

It means the game doesn't feel abandoned and gets plenty of attention. Sure, not everything is perfect, but they're always tinkering with balance and champ/visual overhauls etc. Some things get left behind (Urgot specifically, and more generally non-meta champs) for long periods of time, but when you make a game that is FREE to play, and your revenue stream counts on people buying add-ons to the game, it makes a SHIT TON of business sense to cater to the popular champs choices and keep fresh content available.

People tend to like the new shiny things. I don't see it as necessarily bad for the game, but I would like to see a higher attention to champion balancing in general.

Does it make pre-patch VOD's worthless?

I'm not sure what a VOD is. If you mean video on demand, then no I don't believe so. If you're talking about champion specific guides, I guess it might, but generally I watch challeger players to pick up on their habits more than how they play a specific champ.

Of course, I may be a clueless idiot who doesn't know what a VOD is....if so, please feel free to correct me

past year's LCS videos, does it make them worthless now that a year has passed and since then many things changed.

Ok...yeah I find those useful to see what general methods the pros use. Some champs that get reworked aren't going to help you, but watching the way they trade, last hit, get objectives...definitely worthwhile even after patches.
