Is there literally any reason for Oracle's Lens to not automatically upgrade at lvl 9?
The only possible reason I can think to not just have it upgrade automatically is so people can forget to buy it before they leave base.

So you can safely sweep a brush without needing to get close. A fed Garen hiding in a bush gets to you quicker with the upgrade search over the unupgraded version.
A deathbush is less deadly with the unupgraded version but can only remove that one area. Safety but limited.
Upgrade is more ward removal but less individual safety.
i.e. Enemy J4 is fed, I want to clear or put down a ward in our blind jungle. Dangerous to do so, especially with an upgraded trinket giving away your position and making you go danger close. The unugraded lets you sweep the bush from a better distance without completely giving you away instantly and allows you to avoid the situations that snowball from lack of vision control somewhat easier.
