I don't understand normal games MMR

Let's say you never play rank ever in your life, are you suppose to be match up against diamonds? I really don't understand normal games MMR, I literally got to gold and never ranking after reaching gold and only play normals games. But for some Reason Riot thinks is ok to match me against Diamonds and put me with silvers premades?

normal mmr =/= ranked mmr. if the diamond player doesn't play normals then he can have just as low an mmr as a bronzie when it comes to blind or draft. Also the matchmaking in normals is super skep
