In favor of plants
With the recent discussion over the new plant mechanic that Riot wants to add to the game i want to bring the good points of this change, and the potential benefit they have on the game.
Herbs spawn after a certain minute mark in prefixed places dependig on herb type, and respawn once every 2 minutes or so. Before spawning they appear for 30 seconds as growing seeds, declaring not only the place but also the kind of plant which is about to sprout.
The order, place and fine timing of plant spawn is determined by RNG, but it is so predictable and interactive that a player can work around it and start expecting it based on enemy behaviour or position in the map. This is a very intresting and stimulating thing to be because it adds a layer of ambiental interaction that can be used by players in many different scenarios, from both junglers and not junglers, with a more impactful feeling comoared to jungle smites that will be left behind to make room for this.
But most of all it has a tremendous potential to what can be added to the game; while i don't find at first sight the proposed herbs as fitting they can manipulate and adapt the system to the most different needs: they can let different herbs spawn after x times, they can let more powerful herbs spawn after minute x in new places or after certain events ( like a minute after a tower fall just to guve an example).
They can let plants have effects that can help balance the meta, like adding some that grant an Eve-like camou%%%e for some seconds or a Tremor sense- like effect.
They can even add items that interact with these plants, like support and jungle items that allow plants to be harvested when they are not ready.
In short, this system whilr a bit complex can add an absurde about of depth and unpredictability to the game while being controlled, fair, competitive and full of opportunities for the game to grow.
It might fail, or it might not be perfect, but i am looking forward to it ^_^
