PSA: Riot isnt going to ever just delete a champion

AFilthyCaitMain··71 votes·3,321 views

That would be dumb for so many reasons. Instead of saying "Delete X", try something more constructive like, "Hey this is why i dont think X is balanced, heres how i think it can be fixed."

Honestly all they kept was his MR scalings, gargoyle, taunt, wind flap, and play style.

He looks, sounds, and in lore is nothing like before. :(

AwesomeGuyDj10 votes

Never played or knew much about old galio, but it doesnt even look like his playstyle. Also, i looked at old yorick, maybe lore stayed the same, and the theme, but playstyle is completely gone.

Moonfall Saber3 votes

I miss old yorick :(

As someone that reached lvl6 mastery with Galio before his rework, they actually kept most of his old kit on his new kit, he still has a poke/waveclear ability, a defensive steroid, a AOE-taunt, and his "Build MR and gain dmg" theme, and they also gave him something that he lacked before, his passive (he was a melee champion without any AA enhancement of any kind, that didn't scale with AD). And with his new ult and E, they reinforced his theme, with a fitting lore and visuals (Not to mention they updated Gatekeeper Galio, my skin for him :D).

So abilities are very familiar but personality and look isn't.

his identity was weak before, iifc he was a master piece golem whos master had died. felt sad about it then j4 said, hey, justice and pop galio was a defender. the kept the things iconic to galio and change everything else. if they were going to keep everything whats the point of signing him up for a VGU. you would just have old galio ( which was bad ) with new galios face and lore. is that what the player base really wanted?

Every night I dream of having that old W back. (I may be exaggerating).

Big Lincoln23 votes

Galio Taric Yorick Poppy Karma tho

AFilthyCaitMain20 votes

They reworked them. They didnt delete them.

Big Lincoln21 votes

seems quite deleted to me, completely unrecognizable

they're just impostors 2 b h

DJMason888 votes

Okay, Taric and Poppy are very recognizable. Not sure about Karma, Yorick felt terrible to play against, mixed feelings for Galio.

Big Lincoln9 votes

plays completely differently from his original self, it's not taric

Häxel5 votes

ok, whats so diffrent on them? Old Taric: Heals allie, goes in. New Taric: Heals allie, makes team invulnerabel, goes in.

Old Galio: Goes in, taunts enemies. New Galio: Ults globaly in, goes in, taunts enemies.

Old poppy: es in, goes invulnerabel to win the fight. New poppy: es in, hammers away the mainthreads to win the fight. (obv here was more made).

btw you forgot Sion Graves Gangplank Fiora Warwick Ryze 1234, etc.

the only ones where playstyles rly changed are honestly Yorick and Graves . the one went from adc to jgl/toplaner. The other went from summoning 3/4 ghouls to summon 3/4 ghouls on 3/4 graves, casting a wierd w wall and let his ultghoul splitpush/being not controllable.

first of all, taric was a fighter, with 3 abilities that dealt damage and 1 heal now he only has 1 dmg ability, 1 his playstyle went from "fight me bro" to "Babysitter"

second of all, galio was "deleted" from the game, he does not look the same, talk the same, or walk/fly the same, this "new" galio is 100x bigger than the old one

Ashe MissFortune if old galio and this new "galio" are they same in your head, then these 2 champions are the same oh look they are both female oh look they shoot stuff oh they both have a skill that slows oh they both wear a hat etc etc

nice table6 votes

how the fuck is poppy "very recognizable" the only thing the old and new poppy have in common is that they have a hammer and e that pushes people.

DJMason883 votes

Little Yordle from Demacia with pig tails and a hammer who is tough and tanky. Anyone would know that they were the same. Besides, do you really want old poppy back?

Ralanr3 votes

Differing personalities. Though Poppy's old personality was basically just "anti yordle"

Which is hardly much.

MetalGearTeemu4 votes

Actually, Poppy was a megling, before the lore department got lazy and decided to make every short character in this game a magical fairy pixie furry.

They are recognizable from a visual sense only. The gameplay of poppy at least is as diferent as night and day.

manliestdino2 votes

That was kind of the point though, right? Like the only thing they could keep about old poppy was the wall stun and harder to kill when lower i guess.

Automated Riven2 votes

It was. I am not saying it is bad. just that reworks esentually remove one kit and replace it with another.

Partydanger12 votes

What they did to Galio was delete the champ and replace it with another. His gameplay, looks and identity are completly different. Same with Sion.

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Poppy is hardly deleted. The only things trully changed were her ult and passive while her basic abilities are still functionally the same.

Sire Hippington3 votes

he only things trully changed were her ult and passive ...

...and her W and her tuneing and her god damn entier personality She's certainly one of the better reworks, yet there are still massive difference to old poppy, both gameplay wise and as a character. And while changeing her gameplay certainly was reasonable(though it could have been done in a way that supports agresive off builts that capture her previous niche better), there was no reason to change her entier personality.

they do it's just that a new champion instantly takes it's place however they name it ''reworking'' instead of deleting, just look at new galio, inherits nothing from old galio, old galio got deleted from the game and they introduced a new champion with the same name with completely different everything

Irelia Bot10 votes

Yes they will

They did it to Karma

Takazaki7 votes

reworks are not deletions

Reworks take ( in therory ) take the established identity of the champion and amplify it or expand on it. Talon Was literally designed with assassin creed in mind IIRC Poppy was always trying to give that hammer to someone else ( originally it was to j4 or someone else but she kept it after some fight or something and decided to use it for justice) Darius changed nothing drastic about his kit but gave him more power whilst taking away his " unfairness " ( fuck screw instant Q Darius )

Wasn't that a helmet, though? Same principle applies, mind, but the shift from defensive avenger-diplomat to offensive protector-hero is represented well by that shift. That focus-shift is honestly the only place she really changed theme-wise, though.

also also got rid of those horrid overly tomboy theme she had going lmao but like i saw saying its reworks arent deletions imo they enhance a character in almost every way ( even if they become weak in a game sense )

AwesomeGuyDj10 votes

the galio rework didnt "enhance" old galio, they made a new champion with galios name.

Ralanr6 votes

Galio's theme was basically ancient stone guardian with a dash of depression due to failure.

New Galio still has that theme, though any depression he has is from falling asleep after doing his job instead of failing.

Partydanger2 votes

Old Galio was also a mage

NineTailedMystic1 votes

And? New Galio does a fuck ton of damage with some AP.

Ralanr2 votes

Honestly every AP champion seems to do lots of damage with some AP.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

Galio's ratios are pretty astronomical though. 2.95 AP on a R Q E P. Ahri's ratios on a full rotation is only 2.58 AP if I remember right, after the nerfs. Veigar's full ratio rotation is 2.35 AP minimum, 3.1 AP maximum.

Ralanr2 votes

Ahri is suppose to build lots of AP and function off a lot. Galio is supposed to function off a little if he builds any.

This is why I think his W should scale more with MR.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

Eh, I barely break 400 AP anymore off of my builds with Ahri. Deathcap is simply too expensive in most cases.

According to the League wiki for Galio, his W doesn't scale off of AP at all.

Ralanr2 votes

But the base is high enough that he can get away without building MR.

Automated Riven3 votes

I am sorry. You cannot call poppy sion karma and galio's reworks anything other the 1 kit getting deleted and a new kit getting added in. Galio has literally nothing the same and karma has mantra and poppy has the wall smash. 2 abilities on 3 champions are the same. thats is by no means amplifying and expanding on an identity. Thats destroying 3 champions and completely changing them.

It may be the theory and desire behind reworks. And they may be possitive for the game. but lets not bullshit outselves and call some of the reworks anything other then deletions.

Ralanr3 votes

Or just call them relaunches.

Automated Riven3 votes

Whatever you call them. It doesn't matter. The verbage means Jack shit based on what is happening. The old galio, poppy and karma kits were literally deleted from the game. You cannot, no matter how hard you try, log into league and play with the old poppy karma and galio kits. There are others but for the sake of my fingers I am choosing these three. You cannot form any kind of reasonable argument to disagree with this because it's just the facts.

Yes the champions name is still attached to a champion in the game. Yes the changes are largely good for game health. But no, the galio of today is not the pre rework galio. That galio got deleted.

I don't even think you read my post tbh based on your reply.

Ralanr3 votes

No I understood your post. I just stopped empathizing on the subject awhile ago.

Yes, those champions are gone and for the most part (imo) I say "good riddance" to champions like pre-Poppy. You can call them a deletion, I can call them a relaunch and argue mine is more accurate because they basically reimagined them from the ground up.

But I won't go into deeper detail, because it is obvious that you do not care about what I have to say or what Riot has to say against your personal beliefs on the topic.

So if you wanna wallow in anger about stuff outside of your control, go ahead. I'll go sleep and move on with my life.

Automated Riven2 votes

I am not angry about it. I maybe feel nastalgic once every 500 or so games. I am simply arguing that comparable there is nothing remotely the same. I frankly dont care 1 way or the other. So long as riven escapes with her current kit I will keep playing the game. I even enjoy the new galio and new poppy is one of my pocket picks for toplane. All of this being said the facts remain that the old kits are gone.

I am simply frustrated at the lack of respect for people who mourn a champion that was reworked with stupid comments like "they are the same" which is simply bullshit. I understand why the changes are made. The reason I enjoyed playing old poppy is the exact reason why she was reworked. And I agree with the reasoning. But that doesnt change the facts. I am sorry that you feel the need to poke your head in just to discuss something which you admit that you just dont care how other people feel about it.

I had really liked your posts but if you showing up to threads with the mindset of 'who gives a shit about what other people feel about things' then you should probably keep your comments to yourself. its bad form.

When it comes down to it, the reasoning behind the fact that the old kit is gone matters very little. The fact of the matter which alot of people do really care about is the fact that there are certain mechanics and way to play the game which they simply cannot do anymore.

Nomad Sol7 votes

Except they have with their reworks. Where's old Galio? Exactly.

Mordepool4 votes

Hey Riot can you Delete X but make an new champion with the same name and do it both at the same time. Thanks
