Can we have Ekko's R *not* let you teleport back to lane?

There are two reasons I don't like the fact that Ekko's R lets you effectively teleport to lane (or wherever he backed from) after you back:

  1. It's annoying to play with or against. Playing against, your opponent has an ability that in addition to being useful in fights, also can randomly function as a Rek'Sai ult. This doesn't just work in lane; it also allows an AP assassin to go home, heal a bit, and very quickly return to a team fight. This doesn't seem like intended functionality and can be irritating. Playing with, there's a potential "feel-bad" moment where you can't shop fast enough and miss your chance to get the teleport off. It also encourages you to shop while backing, which can get you into trouble a lot (unexpected dangers kill you while you're at it).

  2. A minor secondary reason is that it's also not flavorful imo. The flavor of Ekko's ult is that he's rewinding time to go back to a state where he was before. He even heals a bit to show that he's "wound back" some loss of life. The fact that he can wind back time but still keep an item that he just bought doesn't really mesh with that. (This can be debated, but as I said, #1 is the main reason.)

To be clear, I'm not complaining about Ekko's power level.

I'm pretty sure the only reason Ekko's R has this functionality is because it's easier to program than it would be to force the ult timer to reset after he backs.

I actually like the option, it takes timing, fast decision making and global awareness. I successfully ganked someone in my lane by recalling just in front of the turret. I landed the ulti, killed the minions (re stacked my item 2041 ) and forced my opponent out of lane, BUT I didn't get the kill, I DIDN'T fully heal, and I no longer had my ulti (no ulti + less life = play safe) and since he has no sustain like Reksai or Panth with lifesteal built into his kit, it is a much bigger loss when he does it.

BTW it is certainly intended, as they specifically mentioned it as an option for playing as him. Taking it away would be broken, as it would create a scenario where for some unexplained reason he can't ulti. This could especially be bad late game when you walk back to fountain before re-engaging super minions, he can't ulti because it seemed unfair he could use it to return to lane? Shen, TF, Reksai and Panth can all do this (shen would need to be support, late game, or have jungler top, but would be a big waste) the others it would be fine in most cases. Wasting R to recall is a big risk, and calculated by the player. Failing to do so properly just makes you try harder. Those R plays are so diverse, the damage is a bit high, but the style is nice

I do wonder if there's a world where LB could do the same thing, but I think the timer isn't long enough

I'm not sure that I'm ready to agree with you...but you make some good points.

thank you :) proof that you don't need to agree to have a nice discussion on a forum :P

If you go back to lane with Ekko's R then you won't get the majority of your lost hp/mana back from fountain regen. It's actually a pretty risky decision to make as Ekko in most cases until you buy homeguards.

Fair enough. I still don't really like that he has the option though (and homeguards presumably would make it much better...). Options = power, even if an option isn't normally the best.

Sure, options are great I'll give you that. But this one does at least have quite a few downsides. The above, not to mention it also puts his ult on CD which makes him really vulnerable. Since Ekko doesn't typically build CDR you're talking 110/90/70 seconds where he can be pretty easily blown up and doesn't have nearly as much teamfight damage.

I'm not sure how balanced the champion is, haven't played him or against him yet (because assholes keep banning him in normal draft... seriously guys? it's normals let us play the new champion /rant) but I have seen Bjergsen lane against him on stream and he had a surprisingly easy time. I think Ekko's lane phase is probably pretty weak so I doubt you'll see many cases where he's using this in the early-mid game because he needs to conserve that escape/skirmish potential. If it needs nerfs they'll probably target the cooldown first, especially if people start building CDR on him.

I'm not sure what Ekko won't build CDR.

I've had decent success with 10% CDR from Runes and Masteries, rush Morello's and then some heavy AP items like Zhonya's and Deathcap, rounding off the last 10% from either blue-buff (temporary) or Twin Shadows (under-rated item, honestly).

I still break over 800 AP full-build and delete any squishy I choose while skirting the battlefield.

Well I can't say for certain where his meta build will fall, but I've mostly seen people focusing on Lich Bane and Ludens which doesn't really leave room for CDR assuming you finish out with Deathcap and Void. Morellos does seem like a really good item on him from my perspective, but I haven't seen many people getting it in the high level streams/youtube videos that I watch.

As I said, possibly due to unfamiliarity, but I have a hard time imagining that they didn't at least try it and discount it for some reason or another.

I wasn't impressed with Luden's. Lich Bane is decent but in my build, it competes with Void, so I juggle depending how much MR they're stacking.

Most of his damage early/mid is from Timewinder, so the CDR and regen both help to accentuate that point. Better farming if you can't harass either. Of course, you can go Grail, but it's more costly for less AP.

Maybe I just like Morello's because Grievous Wounds on the enemy Ekko (constant mirror match-ups) will always leave you ahead in trades.

It's really annoying when you know they recalled but teleport back perfectly to chunk-combo-and-kill.

It's actually quite flavorful to game-play though, not so much his theme.

His gameplay is delayed - you have to predict where your enemies are going or how they might react to land your abilities. To bait people into his Flashbang ult, or Ult into a stun, you gotta be thinking several steps ahead

And this is how his R + Homeguard works. If you're smart and just before a fight breaks out, you can recall, then R back into the spot you were for a speedy ambush. Even better if the enemy has wards and thinks you've recalled for good, thus a 4v5 fight. Of course, this can fail and a fight doesn't break out right then and you blew your only real escape/heal.

You have enough time for the fountain to do **ONE **freaking tick. ONE. So no, it does NOT let him heal at all.

Fair enough. He only really gets to heal significantly if you have homeguards.
