Instead of introducing a "New" 120 AP Item

Why not buff one of the existing ones?

Rylai could easily be a 120 AP item, it currently gives 100 AP. No? What about Seraph? It wouldn't even need to give 120 AP base, just increase the % from 3 to 4 and it would basically give 120 AP

Actually what if instead, we buff up some of the 80 AP items up to roughly 100 AP status?

We don't need AP champions to just be stronger, we need them to have more options, and if you just buffed those items you'd be buffing the champions who already purchase and efficiently use those items.

Basically none of the champions that purchase and efficiently use those items are popular, so there is nothing wrong with that. In addition if those items are slightly stronger then more champions would find those existing items to be viable options.

Let me explain something

Let's say League of Legends had 10,000 different mage items, if only about 3 of them are viable with the exception of some niche situations. Then you effectively have 3 options.

You do not need more to create more options, you just need to fill the holes that exist. At the moment, we have a ton of options that fill basically every hole. Except that most of them suck so much that its better to go with an item that is more viable. Aka Rabadon and Zhonya.

DO you even play League? Or are you just making random statements?

I'm down for 120AP Rylais on Katarina

Case by Case basis that can be more deeply analysed with the immense resources Riot has

Regardless everything I said stands and is true, with extremely few exception. These are bad items. Basically read the rest of what I said instead of stopping at the first sentence and thinking. "hurr durr katarina buff"

If an outlier becomes too strong, then correct the outlier.

The problem is that there are champions for who these items are a good option. Those champions get stronger if you just buff their items. The items are very situational for other champions, but they are purchased a lot by certain champions, and those champions don't need to just be stronger.

Because some AP champs do way too much damage, they are adding a new 120ap item so that the under used AP champs can keep up

While perhaps there are some truth to your words, its not like you can prevent the AP champs who do way too much damage from grabbing the new 120 AP item. To continue to do, too much damage.

True, but by adding a new item, they don't increase the gold efficiency of mages. I'm not aware of mages needing a categorical buff. Adding in a new item just gives more options. Yes, the theoretical maximum AP that one can get is raised, but now you're a glass cannon. I played a game with it versus a friend of mine where both of us played Xerath. I actually got two of them and while my damage was crazy, a single one of his Qs would knock out half my health.

My point is that we have several AP items that are underutilized at the moment. Instead of introducing more options, how about we increase the usage rate of our current items?

When you add something new you have to compare it to existing options and 2 things will likely occur above the rest.

1 - The item will be great 2 - The item will suck

If option 1 happens, then statistically it means that other AP items will likely be used less.

The items I suggested to buff are extremely underused items

Archangels is in less than 1% of games, Rylai's in less than 6%
