So just bought him, and wonder if you 
mainers have some tips and tricks that help you out, and how do you play, like safe? agressive? Do you roam a lot with ekko? Apart from Mid, can he play in other roles? How is his jungling?
I watched stein gate and it increased my ability to play Ekko
Q as you feel your e procing for the dash and play the poke game with in and out fights. Extended fights do not favour Ekko at all so just e in and hit your q get third proc run out with movespeed boost.
Rinse and repeat the above.
Edit: Keep in mind I played mostly tank ekko jungle last season with a small amount of ap ekko top. Did not play it mid too much.
I practically never do the tank build or play him in the jungle in general, so can't help you with anything specific pertaining to that. I do play him AP mid very often and here's what I think.
If you are chasing or fighting anyone that's good at dodging skillshots, slow roll your Q, it's better to aim it just right than to try to get the slow/damage ASAP.
Keep your ult in mind at all times, MANY Ekkos miss a lot of opportunities for great Chronobreaks.(you don't even have to get the damage or dodge something every time)
Damage is more important than CDR, only get Morrelo's or Ionian boots or anything like that if you're already quite a bit ahead(or late game if you really need the healing reduction passive or don't need sorc shoes).
Always remember how long your W takes to activate.
Fear hard CC, it will end you.
Zhonya's active is surprisingly useful
People can't really tell you how to play ekko but there are a few things to keep i mind
Ludens roa and abysall are not good purchases
if your against someone who can poke you a lot just use only your q to farm and last hit with auto attacks when its safe
capping on cdr is a must though you can't buy more than 1 cdr item.
generally you want to play agressive but if you die more than once without getting a kill you should start playing safe and focus on farming.
