I used to play Janna a lot back in the day, but now I just don't understand how to play her now. Like...she's SO squishy early on. I can't think of another champion who is squishier than her...and if you're leveling W like most sites suggest then your shield doesn't really help you out that much early on either.
Any good Jannas wanna explain how to play her nowadays? Am I just supposed to be extremely passive during the early game?
Start W, max W, use Arcane Comet, Cheapshot, Relentless Hunter, Celerity, Scorch and Manaflow Band as runes, spam W on the enemy ADC whenever it comes off cooldown. Congratulations, you've just tilted the enemy ADC! [sg-lulu]
Play 
mid lane, and learn how to trade and harass correctly. The play 
support and learn how the positioning of your lane partner and the enemy you are not trading/harassing affects the correct times to trade/harass. For the latter, here is a video explaining the basics.
