Bring Back Arcane Blade

ofart··29 votes·1,783 views

I was messing around with some weird AP Ezreal builds and noticed that Nashor's Tooth was doing less damage than I remember. It turned out that the difference was the lack of Arcane Blade. It wasn't really a problem with Nashor's but just a general 5% less AP scaling.

I thought this mastery was pretty nice and encouraged mages to take some risks in order to maximize damage. In the context of Nashor's Tooth, it gave me more of a reason to buy AS for a mostly AP build. When autos scale with more AP, AS makes much more sense and Nashor's Tooth is pretty much the only item that synergizes with AP builds too (compared to Wit's End for example). The lack of Arcande Blade leaves something to be desired thoug and I hope this mastery can be added again somewhere in the Cunning or Ferocity trees.

You have to use a whole item slot to get back the 5% ap scaling (plus a 2.5% ap scaling bonus thrown in).

Nobody who does an Attack Speed DPS build sees Rageblade as "Having to use an entire slot". The item more than makes up for the lack of 5% magic damage on Autos

Yea but.... lets say I want to play Diana.....I dont need all the ad from rageblade.

You're complaining about an issue that doesn't exist for Diana. She is an auto attack reliant champion, having the AD is not wasted on her.

Yes. Yes it is. She has no scaling, and she's heavily a a burst champion, not a duelist. She doesn't want to sit there using her AD to fight till she gets Rageblade's pssive up.

The AD in no way holds her back. I have to wonder why you're building Rage Blade on a champion that is "heavily burst" to begin with if you're just complaining about a stat she doesn't scale well with

Nashors gives her an additional 45% AP scaling to her 3 attacks before procing her passive. She doesn't go around attacking enough to make full use of the passive unless she's building bruiser Diana.

Then why even bring her up?

If you look really carefully you'll notice it wasn't me who brought her up. But the person who did bring her up is correct in that she does miss the 5% ap scaling on autos. It wasn't much, but it was nice.

Wasn't she supposed to get some kit work a while ago?

I don't remember, much less Riot.

I'm confused about where this argument came from. We lose a slight DPS mechanic which supposedly hurts diana. Yet when Item alternatives come up, you claim that she's more burst, which Arcane blade doesn't really do much for.

As far as I can tell, she can go either way. But if you want to focus on burst, don't get Rageblade or tooth. Get Lichbane and Luden's.

Arcane blade doesn't do much, true, but it's constantly up bonus damage that will be applied both when diana is pushing and also three times when she needs to proc her passive. It didn't take up an item slot. As such it was pretty damn good on her. But guinsoo's on hit on the other hand requires you to give up one item slot, requires you to pay for attack damage, which she has little use for, and requires you to stack attacks to be able to even get the on hit. And as for attack speed, her base attack speed is rather low, so she actually doesn't scale all too well with too much attack speed. All this makes arcane blade much better than guinsoo's. It's not much, but adding 15% of your AP into a combo without having to buy anything really was useful for diana.

Then don't get Rageblade on Diana and instead get Nashor's?

You used to get nashors and spellsword to deal 20% ap on hit.

Arcane blade is now gone. Rageblade is no replacement. Thread involves rageblade being the effective replacement for all of the champions who got arcane blade, but argument is that's not the case for Diana, who hates rageblade and wants spellsword back.

Arcane Blade would make for a pretty nice Keystone option.

Make it convert auto-attack damage to Magic and give an OnHit AP bonus.

I mean, we've got an physical damage OnHit Keystone.

An AP-based one would be nice.

And making the sustain Keystone work on people other than Try and Samurai Bob would be nice, too.

I think 5% AP scaling on autos (assuming no base on-hit) is too weak for a Keystone. It would have to be more like 10%.

This. I'd totally buy and play Diana and Ekko, etc. for this.

FantasySniper1 votes

And then if not a keystone, a 2nd row single point buff that does something like this.

10% of auto attack damage does magic damage and scales with 10% of AP instead of AD.

xxxMadLionxxx1 votes

I've asked for this several time. I want it back too.

Pierce The Veal1 votes

A proposal: For those who want arcane blade, make it a mastery, but make it so that it it doesn't stack with rageblade. That way people who like only getting arcane blade can have it, and those who prefer rageblade can keep rageblade.

this hurt my tf too :(

The reasoning behind Arcane Blade wasn't to cater to AS builds but to help mages with last hitting cause runes and masteries (other than keystones nowadays) are primarily early game stats, at level 18 many of the stats barely do anything, at levels 1-6 however they have quite a large impact.

DunkinNoobs1 votes

I'm betting it comes back at some point. Riot did say that plan to have there be 3 options at all the transitional points in the mastery trees instead of just 2. We have room for 5 more yet.

I took it for the last hitting.
