I like playing adc but it gets depressing after the 3rd or 4th game in a row where the first thing in lobby is the designated support saying "I don't supp"
Edit: Engaging is the wrong term. I really meant to mean more popular considering how many people in lower elo refuse to play it. I have it as my secondary most of the time but i feel like i can't play adc at all because my options for playing adc in low elo is duo or lose.
I've mained support on and off since season 3. It's actually a really popular role, just not in low elo. You are the playmaker as the support, I'm not sure how to make it more engaging than that.
I actually think the issue is that support is too engaging. Support is the most tactical and complicated role (with jungle being a close second). You're not responsible for just yourself, you're responsible for your team mates and have to put your own character in the backseat. People often just want to go in a game and blow stuff up. They want to get gold for themselves and boost their own stats and that's about it.
Support is the most engaging role, bur statistically least rewarding. Most people can't check their own egos long enough to play for the team. They don't support because they are selfish and have no business playing a team game.
I'm sure nerfing supports and their items was a good start
More independent supports a la Taric where you can actually fight and hold your own rather than having to latch yourself to people to stand any chance. It's being an underdog that has to run away from everything, helpless to defend yourself, that people hate. It's very demeaning being stuck like that while everyone else gets to play super powered badass power fantasies.
