Ramen2261 votesYou can mute champion voices im pretty sure. Not to mention the fact that emotes are not the topic subject so its irrelevant to mention them. Yes, it's true that emotes CAN be used to frustrate people, I'm not arguing that, you aren't accomplishing anything by bring it up.
Choices for dealing with text abusers: Mute that one person and the problem is gone. Choices for dealing with ping abusers: Mute everyone else's pings in the game and I still have to see the "?" always popping up. Choices for dealing with emote abusers: Mute champion voices (i think) and the only thing you lose is being able to listen to your own emotes.
The point of muting someone is because: a) what they are saying is irrelevant, and b) what they are saying is insulting and distracting. So why can't we mute that players pings when it's way more annoying. Pings cause an annoying sound and flashes over your screen. They are LITERALLY inhibiting your ability to play and there is no way to truly remove them.

They don't help you write the essay so they shouldn't be there. The same applies for muting pings. It doesn't help anyone when you put the "?" down on a dead body.

Dionesus1 votesThe problem lies in which everyone who plays this game always wants to complain about something. Now instead of looking within to see what to change...they look outward. With me, I trained myself to not be affected by people who spam pings or toxic people in general. At 1st it bothered, but instead of going to the forums to whine...I told myself I can't be effective by a scrub I don't even know. I'm not going to allow this bum to have emotional controll over me, because I am stronger then that.
But for whatever reason...your brain doesn't work like that. Your knee jerk reaction is to come to the forums and whine to riot because you don't have enough emotional strong and/or focus to handle a ping from a person you don't even know and will probably never play with again.
Remember the easiest thing to change in your life is yourself. If you focus on yourself...you will be a far better person then the people around you.

And you shouldn't shut down an argument about a problem simply because I'm pointing it out. Instead in your original comment you make fun of me and say I'm a baby simply because I'm pointing out the problem. Did my post come across as me being pissed about the problem? Absolutely. But that doesn't make the argument itself false just because I'm mad about it and in doing so you're ignoring the argument itself and attacking me personally, which doesn't answer the underlying question: Why can't I mute pings?
The most frustrating point about this is that any argument that can be made in favor of muting the text, can doubly be made about muting pings. And no matter who you are you've muted at least one person that was being a dick in chat.
To address your closing statement, the discussion isn't* about my own ability to ignore pings but rather that pings are A: a distraction to the player to the receiving player when abused, and B) A tool given to the toxic that enables them to frustrate other players. These reasons alone are enough for riot to implement a "ping mute" system allowing the players to take control away from the abuser.
It's great that you learned to control frustration when it comes to ping abuse, but at the same time it shouldn't be a burden forced onto the player because "reasons." I still just want a reason why we aren't allowed to mute pings when it would only be beneficial.
Dionesus1 votes1st...I've never muted anyone in any game I have ever played in my entire life (I just turned 33 years old). I have never seen the need for it. I have been playing LOL since March 2010 and I played WOW for 8 years before stopping in late 2013. The amount of people I have played online games with is insane.
2nd...text and pinging are very different. You can't be racist with a ping. You can't tell someone to kill themselves with a ping. You can't tell someone that they hope their parents get cancer. So no...you can not make the same argument for both.
3rd...clearly as of right now, riot doesn't see the need for muting pings. So maybe you should change your mind set.
When it is cold outside...you don't scream at the weather expecting it to get warmer. You just put a jacket on and move on with life. Bro...just put your "jacket" on and keep it moving. This is just a game...no need to get worked up. Real life has way more complex things to get worked up about.

2nd: Of course they harass in different ways that's not the point, I'm saying they're both forms of harassment. And pings can do things that text can't. Like actually inhibiting your ability to play because there are question marks blocking the creeps hp bar, or you can't hear the audio queues to dodge abilities. Saying they harass ion different ways doesn't actually negate the argument because I in fact agree with you. You can't call someone a %%%got with pings. But you can still get your opinion across.
3rd: That has never been mentioned in this entire post and is completely irrelevant. The point is to bring up that we can't mute pings even though it's really more distracting than text.

We can mute players for abusive text, we should be allowed to mute pings that are being abused.
ps: to better address your 2nd point, that only makes sense if you want to argue that the ONLY reason we allow text mute is because of those specific behaviors and we both know that's bullshit because we can report players for general harassment AND bigoted harassment.

Communication is a big part of winning in this game and you just hurt your percentage of winning when you want to mute everyone because you can't handle people.
