While generally true, I don't think it really applies to situations where your team wanders around aimlessly, farming the jungle, and pushing waves half-assedly.

there are exceptions, but if you play with the thought that your team is wrong and you're right, and fuck their decisions, you are not going to gain elo.

Why are you assuming that I don't listen to my team without reason?

If my team says "Let's group", I will generally go. If my team says "Let's group", but we are losing teamfight after teamfight, then I might ignore them and start splitpushing.
