Should hexdrinker not have the burst shield?

I thought about this in another thread. The reason why Maw is so frustrating to mages (IMO, I don't play mages so please forgive me) is because the shield can be bought for 1300G.

If the shield was taken from spellblade and put on a fully built Maw alone, would that make assassins less likely to build it in the preseason now that it has A) lost it's armor pen and B) requires the full item to get the spell shield?

Fair point but the thing that's frustrating about many mages is they can miss like 90% of their kit and land one tiny thing and it chunks a huge part of a carry's HP. Maw passive shield good; maybe rework on MR values? The passive shield doesn't really break the game unless the guy who has it is super fed and way too far ahead in which case has nothing to do with the item.

Isn't that kinda intended since carries are squishy and die in burst?

I'm not saying they'd have to not change the MR. Just that ADCs getting chunked by a mage isn't out of the ordinary.

The point of burst is to do alot of dmg in a quick amount of time. It's not to instantly kill you, There's a huge difference. I think hexdrinker is in a good spot at the moment because the shield isnt actually too great neither is the lifesteal but its just enough to live past the syndra who pressed r and just about 100-0'd you.

I think it's a balancing technique on Riot's part. Like for instance, if mages can burst you and blow you up like that, they should have some line of defense or form. Because a lot of times, all mages have to do is move close enough range to burst down ADC. I'm not saying an ADC should seek to 1v1 a mage all the time especially a high burst one. What I'm saying is the existence of hexdrinker and stuff is to offset that inferiority ADC's have. Though the real problem is when base-tanky champs get hexdrinker. As Kitty Whiskers said, hexdrinker (passive shield at least, not sure about stats) is in a good place. It's good enough where it's a suitable line of defensive item but it's not strong enough where it'll be a game breaker against MR. It might save you from a spell but that's it.

See, The reason Hexdrinker has the shield so so they can have it to survive early game against mages. Infact, Be grateful this isnt the old maw which granted more AD the less HP you had.

Hexdrinker is not even a great item and Maw is rather underwhelming unless you are ranged and can keep up the lifesteal/spell vamp passive from the shield.

If you remove the shield from Hexdrinker it becomes as terrible as Rageblade.

Assassins arent supposed to build it so Id reduce the base shield and give the shield MR scaling like Maw has.
