Getting an S should get you a key frag
Would be some incentive for people to still do well in a losing game on a champ they main or play frequently which already has a box

S hunting rewards selfish gameplay over team mechanics. Often the correct play will cost you an S as a support. This would be a terrible idea.

I mean like farming well, getting kills, and not dying isn't really selfish.
Farming instead of grouping, getting kills instead of taking objectives, and playing safe to avoid deaths instead of pushing your lead/making sacrifice plays are all selfish and can cost you the game.

I've had teammates (one in a ranked game) who would farm side waves all game to get more CS for their S, preventing us from grouping and taking towers. (In that particular ranked game) we were pretty far ahead but they almost came back because of that Anivia. What should have been a 30 minute game ended up being a 50 minute one.

He was just trolling in general.
Lets look at this from a business perspective.
"We're giving them a free game to play, and a chance at earning free content up to 4 times per month. Let's make it easier for them to get even more free or discounted stuff. It wont hurt our pocketbooks in the least."
This, it makes no sense for them to make it easier. I'm already glad i'm getting free shit as someone that actually buys RP and doesn't just freeload.
Yes pls.
I've gotten 3-4 S's on Shyvana but no mastery lvl 5 yet ;(
I want something from them :/
That totally won't make everyone pick their mains and tryhard in normals at all costs, constantly and incessantly.
are you one of those who thinks tryhard is some sort of insult? That actually playing not to lose makes them bad?
There are lots of people playing in normal to practice new champs before going into ranked (or trying to box farm), but if someone in there is playing their main that's even better practice since it's more in line with how better people will play
I'm not using tryhard as an insult. I 'tryhard' frequently in normals, since I DO use it as practice. However, I also tryhard with new strats and off-picks, and do not pick my main in their best role with the best build EVERY SINGLE GAME, and I would hate for that to be encouraged because I would be seeing fucking syndra-caitlyn-janna-lee sin every fucking game, without pause, which would give me cancer from the lack of diversity and counterplay.
The suggestion that S ranks would give you key fragments would not promote diversity, it would not promote learning new things, it would promote sticking to what you've already mastered constantly and religiously. Is that what you want?
Tryhard is meant to be an insult in my opinion.
Opinions, they're fine to have. Unless your opinion is WRONG. NUBSCRUBBADUB DUB.
Anyways, tryhard, as its spelling implies, means trying hard. I try hard all the time. You probably do too. People who try hard at anything are, in fact, trying hard, and to not see them as such because you see that as some kind of offensive term is on you. View that as an insult all you want, I didn't use it as one.

I do not let negative connotations that come with words stop me from using them. "Trying to the best of their ability, perhaps even in excess than what is necessary" means the same thing, but hardly has a nice ring to it, does it?
Getting in an argument over something as trivial as this is pretty sad on both our parts, I am bailing. Ciao~
It depends what the people are playing for. If you want to practice a brand new champ vs someone else, would you learn more from dominating someone else playing a brand new champ like a scrub or against someone who is playing that champion properly?
I get that people want to win and already put themselves at a disadvantage using new champs, but you should learn the most when you lose or go up against people who are better so you know that in ranked doing what you did to some new champ scrub usually doesnt work.
If youre playing for a box you'd want to be up against a newchampscrub. If you want to play to learn new meta, plays and champ practice you want to be against a legit opponent. Doesnt mean it'll always be the god tiers, lots of ppl play diff champs especially at the non pro level
Those are all valid points. HOWEVER, if I'm trying to practice a new champ or strat against mains (which is a good thing for practice), they're the ones being rewarded with keys for it. There is a lack of incentive for me. The system you propose suggests that I, too, stick to my main, because that's what you're actively rewarding.
Not everyone is in it just for key farm. You think you're the only one who is practicing a new champ?
My suggestion gives a reward for every intention of play: Main = keys Practice champ = exp and box
That little setup would be fine, except you forget about the part where getting a box is about as easy as scratching your ass and sniffing your finger AFK in the fountain. Most people want keys, not boxes, because boxes are in such abundance in comparison. If there was a demand for both, then maybe it'd be worth considering; as it stands, no.
Play your main ridiculously excessively. That's the only explanation I can think of for why this argument makes no sense to me. (I currently have like 20 keys and a pile of fragments I haven't used yet)
That's how I got my 15 keys anyways.
I just one trick Lulu support and never got a chest after my 10th-ish this season.
No, it really shouldn't
"Riot gube me more free stuff pls." Be grateful ffs
I agree to that 100%, but I think that what OP asks is for a different way to distribute keys, based on merit instead of random, but not necessarily more.
Agreed, excepting one nuance: it may cause us to play super passively when we're losing, which is often the worst option for actually winning.
You still need kills and high damage on champs to get S, not just CS and wards. IMO it will deter people from suicide diving for a kill when behind to feed the enemy more, when a lot of times I see this as a "moral victory reward" for killing someone to feel good despite losing the game, it really doesnt help the team win
I think it would most certainly deter that. Which would be good. I hadn't thought about that. The net benefit of deterring kamikaze dives probably outweighs the cost of discouraging aggressive play.
Not True. You could literally farm all game and have 0% kill participation and still get an S as long as your cs was like 500 by 35 minutes, depending on the champ and role
Then you would have too many key fragments. There would be no incentive for people to buy RP.
i've got 7 boxes and no keys i make stats like 17/4/10 S+ not a key + 250 farm and then i do 7/4/6 and a bad farm = i get a key for B + game LOL
logic
That might work Except for the people who have like 7 keys and no boxes.
That might work Except for the people who have like 7 keys and no boxes.
Lol that's me with no chest and 8 keys and have count vlad skin..
Look, this would be a great idea if S wouldn't be easy to abuse into getting.
Top:AFK Farm and you get S no matter what. Jungle:Steal all the possible kills and get at least 100 farm. Mid:Get kills..i guess. Adc:Farm over 200 and don't die too much. Support:Have more than 50 farm.
The system weighs farm more than kills, all you have to do is just not die. You could just play super passively and allow yourself to lose but still get the S rank and therefore, a fragment almost every game.
You need high damage on champs too. Cant just AFK farm and have low KDA and no damage to champs, and the only way to get those is to actually participate in teamfighting or be killing the person coming to get you over and over
What? Damage isn't weighed at all. Only either farm and kill participation. You don't have to do objectives or get kills at all. I could just become a one-trick for a day or two to rack up 20 keys and then not play for S for a few months and just play for win.
Pretty sure it is. I remember getting an A+ in this game when Naut got S-. Was going for my Hecarim mastery tokens and naut was in my premade http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2335089307/38315864?tab=stats
Why else? Ward placement lower? So I'm punished for getting a sweeper then? Wards def count for supports bc I can have crap KDA and just spam wards in the fountain for S
My damage is mostly from ganking and finishing champs off, peeling or initiating for the carries to do damage. Not spending a lot of time straight slugging it out
It wasn't the damage. It was the goddamn fact that you can actually cheat the system completely by playing "off-meta" since the system always assigns the grading relative to the MAIN role the champion is normally played in.
In other words, getting a 1/0/0/80 score on Janna Top would already be S- worthy simply because NOONE plays it and you would be doing really well for that role.
Nautilus' primary role is Support and Top lane is considered off-meta by the grading system. It praises your score a lot more.
Hecarim Jungle is...well after Season 5, the only thing you see on Hecarim.
(Also, Nautilus players normally don't have a score that good in general.)
the key fragments are way too random in terms of dropping and poorly formulated i think
I can't get 1 chest at all I have like 7 keys without a chest
Damn, here I sit with 10 chests and no key :o, I wish we could trade ^^
I was positive at all times and no chest.. but keys
Excuse but what's an S? I always get a - next to mine
An S I like ur grade so like s- prob 85-90% a S is 90-95% and S+ is 95-100% this is my predict but this is prob true or not.
I feel like it should be a S+
You dont get an S THAT often, but you'd still be getting a lot of key frags from just an S. But getting an S+ on the other hand is much harder and should reward you for doing that good!
Getting an S becomes really difficult on the losing team the higher elo you go. It's also disproportionately easier or harder depending on what kind of champ you're playing. Melee champs stand almost no chance to get an S rank in losing games but long ranged siege mids like Lux, Ziggs, or Xerath still stand a decent chance. Unless the enemy team has someone like Hecarim. Then you're screwed.
I would get a key fragment like every game then
Dont get me wrong I would accept it just figured I should mention
i already have more keys than i do chest and so i think that getting more keys wont help everyone :P
You should get maximum possible mastery score no matter if win or lose...
Also CS has too much influence.
I went 15-4-12 on Shaco jungle, 130 CS (or around so). I got an A+. Enemy Zyra mid was 2-13-7 or around that with 200+ CS and got A+ as well.
