Buying Missions is a Step in the Wrong Direction

No only do you have to pay for the unlock, but you have to earn it by completing the mission afterwards. This may be fine if it was always available, but making it a limited time this on top of the purchase and game restrictions is too fucked up

What if someone buys it and cant complete the quests? Some of the requirements are pretty intense for YOU to do in a TEAM game

How can you complete the quest when the select champs are fought over by multiple people on both sides? Bans?

Just give missions. Fuck the limited time, very select champion use, $$ exclusive stuff

Missions work for any matchmade game, AKA anything except Customs. I completed my Kills mission in Blood Moon, for example. I believe there's some quests that have to be done on Summoner's Rift if I don't remember entirely wrong, but coop should still work then.

This is one of dumbest cash grabs ever. I'm supposed to fork over money, in order to unlock something that I then need to complete in order to get tokens to unlock something else to get a random piece of loot. I would never in 1000 years spend money on this.

I don't know why Riot insists on trying to make money off RNG over and over(cough hextech crafting cough) but it's a terrible way to do business.

Look, I understand your concerns, but like Pavlo said, Co-op vs. AI works for the missions, so you can just use Beginner bots to easily do the missions (and if you're worried about not getting Riven/Yasuo then play in a premade so you don't need to worry about randos taking either champ).

Life happens. Enough people play this game that that will happen to someone, somewhere. Same reason you have to have 20 champs to play Draft: It's stupidly unlikely that the other 19 will all be banned, but with that many people playing, 1-in-a-million happens a few dozen times a day.

Edit: For those who care, the chances that those specific 20 champions will be banned are vastly less likely that 1-in-a-million. IIRC, though it's been ages since I've used this regularly, it's specifically [Pi^20_(n=0) (136-n)]^[-1] atm. If someone else wants to calculate that, be my guest.

The other day I was playing, my Mid champion pool is somewhat small on my alternate account because I only bought my mains. Well, Ban phase comes. Ahri, Zed, and Yasuo (Fizz & Fiora also) get banned. 3/4 of my mid lane pool gone immediately. Second pick on the enemy team. SWAIN. My FOURTH and FINAL pick. I ended up getting cleaned in lane by an LeBl. Not a fun game.

Jhin Mid isnt as good as Lucian mid, but it definitely is viable as long as you can freeze wave by your turret so you're harder to gank. Speaking of off meta Jhin. Have you seen AP Jhin top? You just lay 3 Lotus Traps on top of each other, bait them into it, Lock them in it with a W, and watch them pop. Funniest thing to 1 shot a GP who chases you into a bush because your traps scale 1DMG:1AP. 3 Lotus Traps = 1200 Dmg, pre natural scaling @ 400AP. Add a Lich Bane, and WHAM. Game over.

The point is, however, one should not be forced into doing such convoluted means.

If you have to default to Vs. AI to complete an event, and you're still competing with others to do so, then it wasn't well designed or thought out.

Buying "extra" missions via the passes is a completely legitimate and cheap way to earn extra loot. Those missions are specifically tied to Riven and Yasuo AND you can do both sides if you buy both passes. Each of those missions give you by default:

100 chaos/order tokens
1x chaos/order orb
1 hextech chest + key
1 nightbringer/dawnbringer ward skin

2 extra missions per pass give you:

Novice mission

Hextech chest + key, 40 tokens

Master mission

100 tokens, 1x gemstone

The total value of a pass is:

1 ward skin (640 RP)
240 tokens (506 RP)
1 orb (legacy skins chest with a 50% chance for bonus loot) - (295 RP)
2 hextech keys + chests (hextech set is 195 RP x 2 = 390 RP)
1 gemstone

Total cost of loot: 1831 RP (still not counting a Gemstone and double token boost on VS missions). That's a bonus of 531+ RP MORE than you payed for.

Your regular missions refresh after 24 hours so for the duration of the entire event, you should be given more missions and rewards to obtain on your own, with no actual cost to you.

I mean, i just don't get it... No matter what and how the event is done (and loot), all i seem to find on the boards is people always having an axe to grind with Riot. This event (with the addition of missions and in the next patch hopefully, honor system), is finally hitting that mark on being satisfying to play and participate in.

For me, at least.

I was on the fence about paying for missions, but when you put it that way, it's pretty high value. Especially when you consider how rare gemstones can be. So you are getting 1831 RP worth of stuff, PLUS something you CANNOT buy at all, plus the double tokens for any of the other event stuff you want to purchase (which includes key frags btw). And after hearing that you can do mission in Co-op Vs AI, I don't think it's that unreasonable at all.

That said, I would like to see more variety of missions in the future--maybe some more specific or challenging--and have more of the event stuff like icons earnable directly from missions, but this is a fine first mission event.

Yea, Missions are going to become a thing after this event. This was their introduction for the future. If you played HotS, that's pretty much what i expect from League as well BUT i don't think Riot is going to just spam you daily with missions you wouldn't even care to be bothered playing.

That being said, the rewards might range from IP to gemstones but those would be rare. I don't really know but this should be the way to earn extra loot on some days to spice up your League experience. I personally like Missions.

thanks for whoever said you have to buy extra missions. I completed mine quickly and never saw the others people were talking about. I am not going to spend the money for missions. thanks yo everyone who responded in a helpful fashion

I saw "Get 5 kills in a game", and noted that it said nothing about having to do PvP, so I did a coop vs ai, had a couple of people hunting assists/kills too, and obviously completed our quota in less than 15 mins. Still got the quest complete. If you are looking for a challenge, obviously try it in a PvP game but if you're just there to complete the quests, do a coop game and be done with it.

Note: Coop vs AI is still technically a matchmade game, if the quest description mentions it.

You do realize you got Riven and Yasuo icons when you played 1 game to start the VS missions in the first place, right? You can also craft 3 icons (also a border and an event emote) with tokens you earn from respective VS missions.

does anyone really expect to just win 100% of their games suddenly because missions are on the line? Have i only been managing a ~49 win rate in ranked this whole time simply because i've only been playing for shiny ranked badges and not because i was "on a mission"?

They're trying to make these legendary skins bring in as much money as an "ultimate" skin. 280 tickets for a loading screen border!... gotta pay 20$ to unlock the "missions" to possibly get those tickets though! When I was first reading up on this stuff I thought the skins would be available through mission unlocks.

Now that I know you have to buy them the whole missions thing seems meh to me.

I'm just gonna buy orbs and maybe the icons with my tokens, maybe I'll get one of the skins through an orb

They have been going in the wrong direction for a while now, the free to play attitude has steadily moved into make a profit, from the high rate of new champs to the forcing a new client with 2 extra processes in your computer. We have been placed in a constant "catch up to broken". they broke the assassins class and it is still not fix. new champs left and right with old champs like fizz still needing nerf, tanks getting late game supremacy in a game that mostly goes to late game and the duo players cc combos that just makes the match a fishing fest. to top it off force a new client on players that was not ready, that lags the game or bugs out in champion select and leaves you getting penalties. i which they had a season 3 version of the game with only those champs and that client because this has gotten trashy like trump, all for the money.

Yeah, sucks. Greediest game I've ever seen in my life did the same exact thing many years ago and I think it's mostly dead now. This sure won't put a dent in Riot but holy shit does it make them look scummy. I'm all for selling skins and chests (they're a business first and foremost), but having to pay for missions to be able to unlock the loading screen borders is awful. You already have to pay like 20 bucks for the skin itself, now you have to shell out an extra 5 just to get the border. Unreal

worst thing is that it doesn't even sell the mission separately it's only sold as a 1300 bundle. This isn't the right thing to do riot. They could have increased players active playing time just giving away missions to unlock icons or banners or some shit.
