Blast cone feels awkward as fuck with melee champs?

I don't know if its just me, but i've had some really awkward interactions with the blast cone while playing melee champs

Like, i walk up to it and try to use it while being chased, and my auto attack cancels 2-3 times and everyone stands there awkwardly trying to use it

An example from my past game:

It's pretty clunky overall. Once I stood there long enough for 3 autos and it never triggered. Died because of it. Also, champs interacting with plants from range is so cheap, they need to change that. As adc I've ruined so many approaches because champs have to walk over blast cone. I've started teamfights by sending tanks over walls and engaging the squishies. Champs should be within blast range to trigger the blast, the rest don't really matter.

they should just make it like a thresh lantern.

If they completely stole the thresh lantern mechanic, it would work perfectly. They would have to make the acivation circle a little smaller, but it doesn't bug out like plants and ranged champs don't have an unfair advantage.

Yup, it's hella tricky. But there is something juicy about blasting into the dragon pit with 3 man after grabbing an inhib.

what if blast cone was like ascension altars, where every champion triggers it at the same range.

That would actually be really awesome, especially if it was done for all the plants.

It would also fix some of the crappier feeling cases like Poppy or Nocturne consuming their passives when interacting with plants.

It is not just you, their need for precise positioning makes it very awkward for melee champs

I've never had troubles with it, tbh. Perhaps you're just cancelling autos manually?

probably lol

I feel like it's worse for ranged champs. I have less issues when I'm playing melees than I do with adcs or range mages.

Why don't we just remove blast cones? The other plants at least offer something and aren't a total waste of time. Blast cones are such a pain in the ass to use that all they really offer is a way into dragon/baron pit without using flash.

If you are Olaf during his Ultimate you can use them to send enemies flying without being affected yourself.

I totally agree, it's clunky and un-intuitive. The other plants I don't mind, they actually give good, interesting ways to replace smite buffs, but there was no smite buff that made you fly through the air. They are so easy to auto-cancel and misclick. I've already seen so many fails and misplays, people accidentally knocking their allies into the enemy team, etc. What's even more frustrating is when people use it to make a cheesy free escape from a 5v1. There shouldn't be a way to do that, and its all up to luck whether there's a blast cone there at the time. For some reason, they also seem to be the most common plant. Not to mention the fact that the animation when you fly through the air looks stupid.

But riot don't seem to think they are a mistake, and even if they do it will probably take them a season to get rid of them, so it seems we are stuck with them for the time being.

Def not just you. I usually dont play melee, but shaco is one of the few exceptions when I do, and holy **** it's so hard to use as melee. Lol

Honestly i have really hated the blast cone plant since mentioned but i gave it a chance. It's to awkward and sometimes just fails to hard. I hate the lame escape factor that they give if you pick a fight and fail that should be it unless it's in your skills to get away this plant is really a fail safe for bad plays.Plus don't get me started on if you're facing a ranged with you being melee and the plant is there.

Its the other way around, its super clunk to use as ranged while super easy as melee.

I'm no programming Wiz but Looking at it the issue seems to lie with it not updating quickly enough

To explain in programming theres a section which always loops, this happens once everything has loaded in, every loop it checks or changes various commands and classes, Say a champions movement is on a class the main loop will notice the changes and alter in game accordingly

Now what it seems to me is that the blastcone isn't updating as quickly as say, hitbox detection or character movement, this is apparent too with its indicator of where you are going to land, League isn't locked to a grid but the blast cone gives the impression that it is, odds are this is to lower the load on computers but it can causes issues LIKE it being delayed in registering that somebody has hit it.

Again I'm not gonna proclaim myself a programmer but from what I know this sounds like it might be it?

as far as I know, league doesnt work like that. Yes there would be an update loop but things like this would be queued anyways and wouldnt run an iteration of loop by loop process.
