Does anyone miss Thunderlord's Degree?

NOTE: Thunderlord's Decree* (My mistake in the title lol)

https://i.imgur.com/DWuzSxt.jpg https://i.imgur.com/WOXYvrn.jpg

Not only was Thunderlord's Degree a more balanced Rune but it actually felt like it belonged in the League Universe due to types of Magic's and beings that existed (Demi-Gods and Thunder Lord Ornn Skin Reference).

Thunderlord's Degree sounded a lot cooler thematically as well, because it was suggesting that an actual God like Lord striken a Thunder on your enemy when it proc'ed.

Now with Electrocute it's like, meh you just got Electrocuted by a Red Thunderbolt.

In terms of balance-wise, Electrocute currently has a bonus +20% AD/AP ratio compared to Thunderlord's Degree, and on top of that even a much higher base damage at early game of 40 and all the way to late game by 40 as well.

Oftenly people use the excuse for this being fine because it has a longer cooldown, but is that really a good enough reason?

###What are everyone's thoughts on this? Does anyone want the Thunderlord's Decree back?

Except it's not League of Electrocute. Stats don't lie. I remember a time when... Illaoi? TLD Zed? TLD. Ahri? TLD, Quinn? TLD Anything that wasn't a tank, supp or dot champion took TLD With the sometimes FoB.

Is League of Electrocute much better?

It doesn't even compare to league of thunderlord

While TLD was strong it wasn’t the keystone that everyone went for. It was Precision. The mastery that gave flat Arpen and Mrpen and gave so much of it early that everyone had to take it or you were at a major disadvantage.

  1. Decree, not degree.

  2. No. Electrocute being on a longer cooldown means not everyone can use it effectively. TD imo was a failure in design because it was too diverse while being too good. There was little reason to not take it on a champion most of the time.

We complained about “League of Thunderlords” because of this.

meowwow712 votes

and god forbid you get a dot champ with that crap against you the initial spell hits and 2 ticks later you get hit with thunder

Ralanr10 votes

I think they fixed that near the end of TLD’s existence but it really showed that the rune was too versatile.

The real reason why not everyone can effectively use Electrocute is because the way it procs is different from TLD

Ralanr5 votes

That and because of the longer cooldown it’s not as reliable.

OmegaNITRO19 votes

Yeah, I missed it, because I only ever got Thunderlord's High School Diploma.

TL's was the start of dmg creep imo. It made champs like lulu get nerfed solely b/c it existed. Changed the way each champ was able to interact early game and started the whole focus of stupid dmg pre lvl 6. I was able to gimp someone for half their life with 1 auto and an E + Q as Lulu thx to TL's at level 2. Lulu should never be able to do that, it's not what she was designed around. Anyways, It was still probably better than the current mess of bullshit that Riot somehow considers to be balance.

Not as much as DFT...

Meddler: What if, we brought back thunderlords, but made it to 5 times the damage but only assassins can use it.

Why lie?

BLIGHTBRINGER10 votes

I don't really see Mages use it, unless it's Katarina Evelynn Leblanc who are still Assassin's regardless if they build like Mages.

wait what? Mages almost ALWAYS used it if they couldn't make use of DFT. Heimerdinger Lissandra Orianna Syndra TwistedFate Velkoz +mages with poke sometimes took it for more kill pressure like Xerath Ziggs Zyra Lux. The only other keystone mages used was stormraiders, but that was uncommon in regular elos.

Mages who I’ve seen use electrocute either 50% of the time or more: Ahri Annie Galio Lissandra Syndra Veigar Velkoz Zoe

It’s not only for assassins. The entire page is definately better for them, but it’s not unusable for mages.

Edit: kinda forgot TwistedFate, but he takes comet slightly more often than I see him take electrocute.

I just miss my DFT; tick-damage mages still don't feel as fun.

Electrocute does 5x the damage at level 1 tho?

The Yetii Rider6 votes

You are failing to recognize that Electrocute is not an area of effect aspect and Thunderlord's Decree was.

Also, Electrocute is adaptive, which is far superior. It allows both more synergy and counterplay with AD assassins, as they get more damage if they build lethality and deal less damage to targets who build armor against them as they should.

So no, I do not miss Thunderlord's Decree. Morgana Wing me once in bot lane and getting it was not fun.

Hyquiem5 votes

IMO I want it back in the sorcery tree also I’d like to see fervor of battle in the yellow rune tree th old runes were so balanced.c

OtterlyLost5 votes

I miss old masteries in general. Fervor, Thunderlords, DFT, warlords before it was like fleet...

I miss old runes too. I felt they were easier to customize or you could have fun with them, you know? I miss flat armor and mr runes, mostly though. Now if you're gonna have a hard lane, there arent any options afforded really to you to passively up your Mr or armor before the game.

I thought season 5 was the best season but thinking on it, I actually enjoyed 6 and 7 too. 8 is the first season I've flat out hated.

ChaddyFantome5 votes

No, and i don't enjoy Electrocute taking its place either. Both are cancer on the game.

And who the fuck says that it should have long CD and high dmg? What kind of bullshittery is this?

Solidair32 votes

No. It was the only rune people would take. I think Electrocute could stand to be nerfed a little, but over all I'm fine with most of the new keystones.

AirKingNeo2 votes

So, do you actually have any evidence showing that Electrocute is overpowered right now?

Metallikaiser2 votes

I think as a whole Electrocute is certainly better, it was pretty dumb how common TLD was before. That said ThunderLords Decree as a name sounds badass as hell, and I prefer it looking blue.

AmazoX2 votes

#The things I dislike about Thunderlord's decree are

  • that some champions were able to proc it with one ability only.

  • It has a lower cool down compared to Electrocute.

  • Thunderlord's decree was AOE.

TyrekGoldenspear1 votes

TIL it was AOE

Skorch2 votes

I feel like people forgot just how annoying old keystones at times. "Man old masteries were so much more balanced" No they just gave less total overall power cause they were combined with runes.

Does no one remember the shitstorm of warlords bloodlust and how it got reworked as many times as ryze within 1 year. Or league of thunderlords, where 9/10 champions in the game had thunderlords. Or (While people like to look back at fervor fondly since they took it) It was still CRAZY strong and combined with guinsoos, every champion was Jax.

Im sure there are more things to talk about with old masteries but the point im getting across is the old mastery had many MANY issues as well.

CppL1 votes

Electrocute is a thunderlords on steroids ,for some reason...

Z3Sleeper3 votes

Because upping burst damage under the pretense of a higher cooldown making it less accessible certainly couldn't go wrong.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

I mean riot thought giving everyone 45% CDR wouldnt be bad either.

Caretaker Jack1 votes

I still use it... It's still useful... So idek what OP is talking about.

Are you asking them to rename it and make the color blue? Because I'd be down for that.

BLIGHTBRINGER3 votes

That's what I am trying to mainly suggest yes. It would feel more sense thematically, in comparison with the rest of the runes.

EDIT: I made a Blue version, to show as to what it would look like.

No, I did Bachelor of Fervor. On a serious note, when playing AP, I miss DFT much more than TLD.

iamsmurfing01011 votes

I do, it was so easy to proc with only one spell on many champions ...good old days of simpler league..
