@meddler You said you would keep an eye on Yasuo, Where are nerfs?

months ago you said you would keep an eye on him or something if he became too strong which is exactly what happened. can we just turn him into an actual fighter and limit some one his abilities or stats?

WOW YASUO IS GETTING NERFED?!?!? My constant "Nerf Yasuo"s have worked.

I have finally beat Meddler, I won. In fact, I have defeated the one that usurped Morello's Golden throne and can now be at ease.

Yasuo will finally be nerfed down to a reasonable level.

Usurped? Morellos is still at riot except he is designing upcoming games. also i doubt constant "nerf Yasou" did much to the decision.

Yes but he is no longer Lord and Master of Development. Were you not here for the days of the "Nerf Master Suck Town" jokes? http://i566.photobucket.com/albums/ss103/gramkracka22/patchpreview.png

Could you maybe look into limiting the amount of projectiles his W can block? One of the major frustration points for me is playing any ranged champ and being completely locked out of a fight for several seconds just because of that skill.

Or you could move?

TAScientist10 votes

Moving to reposition around windwall 1. isn't always possible (if, say, the fight is in a jungle corridor) and 2. still keeps you out of the fight while you reposition. That doesn't exactly solve the issue.

japan hate acc9 votes

Yeah, I guess you do have a point. I'm just sick of all these goddamn Yasuo threads. Holy shit there's too many of them, and I feel like even if Yasuo's windwall is made like Braum's E, people are still going to complain.

Londongangstorys6 votes

Thats a terrible idea. certaintlyT designed the windwall To block ALL enemy projectiles for 4 seconds and they have left it that way for a reason. They even toned down the ability as in you cannot passively generate more flow from dashing and now limiting the amount of projectiles the windwall can block defeats the purpose of the windwall and what the designers tried to achieve as this "new mechanic" in league of legends back then. You can easily outplay the ability by your positioning anyway.

you'd still be able to block things like ults if you have good timing and aim, it would simply prevent yasuo from using W in the general direction of a ranged champ and negating their kit for several seconds

I'm sorry but that's his "thing" to keep him alive, like trynd ult or spell shield. If you made it only able to block a few things his whole idea of zoning an enemy carry would be useless.

TAScientist3 votes

The issue isn't that he has a defense mechanism, it's that the one he has is arguably the strongest ability in the game as-is. It provides far more utility than a high-damage champion like Yasuo is supposed to have; compare it to Trynd, Yi, or Fiora, who all offer relatively little to no utility beyond the damage they bring. THAT is why I'm suggesting nerfing it. (Also, it's not the only "thing" he has to keep him alive, he also has his passive shield.)

Bônes5 votes

Spoken like a true ranged champ main. :)

Whatever you main, you clearly don't know where the issue with Yasuo lies. The Rioter specifically mentioned tank builds on Yasuo. If you look at champion.gg, Yasuo's win rate is currently 2.16% higher top than mid lane. Tank Yasuo is played top lane not mid. There are far more ranged champs played mid than top. All this should show you that the problem has nothing to do with windwall.

We really have no choice though. Unless you are playing against people who don't know what they are doing, yasuo gets blown up too fast too easily.

The tank builds are pretty much the only way to reliably be a useful yasuo

Eedat3 votes

tbh traditional Yasuo isnt a problem. The problem is people are building "Tank Yasuo" which is about as frustrating as tank Fizz and tank Ekko were. Does lots of damage while still being tanky and has tons of sticking power and mobility

ZT Xperimentor4 votes

Which goes to show that again, an assassin has too much damage built into their kit for free; in his case double critical chance & +50% armor penetration.

Canadian Ninja4 votes

Which neither have a huge part in why the tank builds are a huge success with him. You could really blame the change in win rate on Trinity Force. Higher attack speed with Sheen proc means Q comes off cool down quicker and that means more Sheen procs. Tanksuo doesn't build Crit at all. His armor penetration comes from landing an Ult. Which requires either building up the stacks of Q or an ally with a knock up. He couples TF with Frozen Mallet for ultimate sticking power with both TF's moves peed passive and FM's slow passive. So like Arkadata said in this thread the best way would be to move his power around so that you get less raw power with his Q and move it to AD scaling through items.

ZT Xperimentor3 votes

It definitely does have something to do with it; why would he build more damage when what he already has is enough to gib the enemy? It's why other assassins building all defensive has been a problem; there was no reason for them to stack damage when they already had plenty to do their job.

Triforce has been a problem since they changed it in the marksmen preseason patch, I'm not surprised another assassin is abusing it.

Oh yeah like it's hard landing a long range AOE popup, not to mention several other champions have popups in their kits for him to synergize with. Point is, his ult is on a 30 second cooldown as the baseline, and this piercing buff lasts 15 seconds.

As it stands he has access to significant, utility, mobility, defense, & damage in his kit; an assassin shouldn't have all four, no champion should have all four at all, remember graves & mordekaiser? I don't care how yasou is nerfed, I just want him nerfed in some way that; either removes one of those, or at least noticeably limits one of those powers of his kit.

Bônes4 votes

You aren't paying attention to what he's trying to say and you don't understand tank Yasuo. He agrees with this statement:

"has too much damage built into their kit for free"

Although, Yasuo isn't an assassin, he's classified as a skirmisher. It's close but not quite an assassin. He disagrees with this statement:

"in his case double critical chance & +50% armor penetration."

With the most popular tank Yasuo build, he doesn't build any crit. With this build, double crit chance does nothing for him because if you double zero, you still get zero. Armor penetration helps for sure but not by itself. You still need AD to make use of it. And, it applies only on the champs that he ults. That's why the problem is the base AD. The Rioter even mentioned tank builds specifically. The double crit and armor pen is fine.

Canadian Ninja2 votes

This is exactly what I'm trying to say. I'm awfulness explaining things and it makes it harder when posting from a mobile device. Thank you!

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

But neither of you are accounting for runes. Normally you only get a maximum of +20% critical strike chance with runes, but he gets double that thanks to his passive. And it's not an uncommon practice to use runes contrary to your item build to cover for some issues your champion has; such as magic penetration runes on zac while he build only defensive items.

Needs ad? Have you not looked at basic stats? Every champion has a base attack damage value; his ends up being 110, without masteries or runes. You're also overlooking that his steel tempest Q has a 1:1 AD ratio, and his last breath R has a 1.5 to 1 ratio. The triforce may not have high stats, but it gives both attack damage & attack speed, both of which he should require in general; but that's not why people take it on yasou, it's because of it's spellblade ability. Thanks to his low cooldowns & free cost abilities, he can practically spam while hitting for near 3 times his AD on basic attacks, that's if he doesn't critically strike.

Canadian Ninja1 votes

No Yasuo player would ever run full crit runes. Especially playing tank Yasuo. The attack speed to cap his Q cool down is more important than the crit chance with both AD and Tank Yasuo. You're making it more and more obvious you have never actually played Yasuo to any extent. Yasuo hasn't really been altered at all in a long time but what has? Masteries and items have seen a huge overhaul and people are just taking what has been broken with several other champions and using and modifying it for other champions. Every time you post you keep saying it is Yasuo that is the problem and he should be gutted, nerfed, burned to the ground! But you also keep going back to talking about how busted Trinity Force is but it is Yasuo that needs to be gutted, right? You just sound like a salty player who had a bad experience against a Yasuo main. Probably stands around in the middle of your minions and he dashed all around you, blocked a skill shot and killed you by ulting you and kept his dash for when you flash away from him. There are so many Champs that take a huge shit all over Yasuo, learn who they are and then you will realise he's not really that busted but it's the item changes that make him busted as Top Lane Tank Yasuo, it's not mid lane AD Yasuo that is busted. Doing what you want to do to him would just straight up gut him in both lanes.

As someone who has played against him, I agree with you. I don't have him in my stable of champs, but I have found ways to counterplay him. He isn't that bad a champ, really. I have CC'd him to death with Karma in the mid, and chained ricochet with Sivir to go around the walk using minions. People just don't want to think in game I guess. shrugs

Canadian Ninja2 votes

I'm not saying they don't contribute to his tank success but they are not the main problem. His kit just abuses Sheen and the like we both said Trinity Force is just too good on him and allows him to abuse hit kit even more. The higher attack speed allowed different items to be built instead of the regular Phantom Dancer or Shiv builds for attack speed. So he ends up with almost the same attack speed by building tankard he gets free damage from that same item, oh, and did gives him more mobility due to the Phage proc as well. So no one can get away from him. Then coupled with Mallet just makes it impossible to run away. And Yasuo isn't really an assassin, he's more of a bruiser/fighter. He doesn't have abilities that blow people up he has to get in and auto attack to deal damage. It boils down to that the new Trin Force is just too good on him and makes AD Yasuo a joke. If they plan on keeping TF the same then they need to change how his kit works. Maybe change it so his Q requires both Crit and Attack Speed to lower the cool down or move his power from his abilities, by removing a lot of the base damage, and moving it over to his passive so that he needs to build AD and Crit to deal damage.

His ult isn't 30 seconds at level 6, btw. And his ultimate isn't the problem, it's like hitting an extra basic attack, nothing much really. His ult is an essential part of his kit that should be up most of the time since it's reliant on allies or his 3rd Q which is kinda hard to do it on your own and you might get peeled off and die. The real solution that makes him "omg op plz nerf riot i cant get to diamond becuz of yasuo omfg ;-;" is what ArkaDaTa said, lower his base numbers and give him more scaling damage. But I doubt it will satisfy you people and you will come on boards again and whine and moan because he's an op champion while secretly playing Malzahar or any other broken shit to gain some elo.

speaking of "turning someone into an actual fighter" and "inappropriately effective builds" Do you think its time to take another look at Riven now that the Assassin update is coming? One of the biggest reasons the edge rework got canceled was because Alot of player said it forced Riven into being a bruiser and killed "assassin Riven" but now Riots made it clear that they think there should be more to an assassin than just upfront massive burst. Ironically enough Assassin Riven is exactly this, Ki Burst+item 3074 +Windslash gives very little room for counterplay Which makes Riven an assassin but in the worst of ways (This gimmick also happens to be the most played build and most used strategy by far)

Do you think its time to take another look at her ? I reckon shes the only fighter/slayer who is capable of this with her only prerequisite being that her Flash is up.

Isn't Frozen Mallet the hype Yasuo build at the moment?

RiotMeddler5 votes

Frozen Mallet's a moderately common pick up on top Yasuos going tanky yeah. Doesn't necessarily mean that's a problem, or that if it is, it's the most important thing to address. Wouldn't want to commit to a direction before the live gameplay team's had a chance to look into Yasuo properly.

In terms of timing also possible Yasuo changes end up in 6.19. I'd originally been thinking 6.17 or 6.18 as the next two patches (6.16 lock date's already past). Might end up bumping Yasuo work a bit later though, given those two patches have a heavy Worlds focus (6.18 being the Worlds patch) and Yasuo isn't a pro play problem. By contrast some champions (e.g. Jhin and Ashe) are issues in both pro play and regular play.

Any chance of doing something about his game health issues? He's probably the single most frustrating champion to play against in the entire game in certain matchups (especially so for mana-using skillshot mages), while at the same time being kind of useless in his unfavourable matchups.

Sadly, that's not something that simple number-tuning can fix.

FULL AP EKKO8 votes

Have you guys thought maybe the whole defense itemization system is at fault instead of the champions? This problem has occurred with Fizz, Akali, Ekko, Master Yi, Fiora, Kha'Zix, Graves, the list goes on. Why not just fix the problem at its root? The tank items are just TOO effective on people with any type of mobility + dueling potential.

Why not make tanks SCALE with these items and nerf the items accordingly. So that champions who are supposed to be building these items get the full benefits but champions who aren't supposed to, won't.

ProfDrDeath11 votes

The problem is not necessarily in the defense itemization, tbh - which is hardly stronger or even weaker (as in, less stats for more gold) than in S5.

Rather, the problematic part is in the fact that the mastery changes in S6 gave access to a lot of extra damage in the keystones (Fervor of Battle, Thunderlord's and Grasp being the main culprits, with Fervor and Grasp being the ones that fuel the mobile tanksassins the most). Combine that with the fact that the squishy targets are more squishy (virtually no ADC or AP mage gets defenses from masteries anymore, as the first two ranks of Resolve suck for outright defense, good amounts of Lifesteal only come very late in the builds), and you have situation where it is more beneficial for these champions to act as mobile disruptors with above average damage than to be glass cannon superhigh burst dealers.

LostFr0st3 votes

If tank builds is the problem, might wanna take a glance at Akali too. X3

ArKaDaTa95 votes

As a supposedly high skillcap champion he looks a bit too powerful since a few patchs (winrate increase) and this might have to do with the usage of Fervor of Battle which synergize really well with him and provide too much damage on tank builds.

The main issue here is that nerfing this Keystone could negatively affect others champions, same for nerfing others items such as Phantom Dancer which is really good on him.

So, assuming Yasuo is the real problem here, lowering his Q base damage (current 20 / 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 (+ 100% AD)) and lowering the critical strike damage penalty (current 25%) could be a good way to balance him by lowering the damage he can output as a Tank but making AD/Crit chance a more rewarding stat on him.

I believe that would be a nice way to tone him down as a tank without touching his offensive midlane playstyle and his kit too much, though that's just my suggestion as a Yasuo Main.

Spicy Rice11 votes

Good idea, but as you bolded, yasuo probably isn't the real problem. The way I see it is that his current power comes as a result of meta shifts, the Mage rework, and the triforce change where crit was removed

All of these combined changes forced yasuo into building tank items and becoming what he is currently.

Canadian Ninja7 votes

Yasuo is and isn't the problem. If he still does lots of power while being tanky that means his abilities have high base damages and low scaling. So he gets lots of damage through Sheen and through masteries as well. I think being attack speed reliant is also a problem. Once he stacks Fervor his high attack speed that he runs means he is going to put out that Sheen and Fervor damage quickly. So I really like what Arkadata has suggested about moving his power to scaling instead of base damages as that would require you to buy damage items to put out high damage numbers. But in saying goes that his damage needs to come from his crit passive and not from abilities as his two main tank items give him AD.

I know it sounds like a terrible cop out of a balancing idea but considder how effective it would be. Laetitian3 votes

I don't understand why you don't just increase the cooldown of his ult. It's completely broken. You did the same with Master Yi, and here it is even more important. It's an effortless engage for a melee, for the distance of his Typhoon, which is huge, and since you can easily entrap almost a whole enemy team in it, it is also absolutely safe. It's just unacceptable for that to be happening with a champion of Yasuo's strength and already huge mobility - twice during one fight, be it in lane or a teamfight.

Whenever a Yasuo was not absolutely shut down by his lane enemy and jungler [which does not happen in low elo, but that is another story], the only times I have still managed to win the games were the times when I shut down Yasuo every teamfight by flashing in and surprise-CCing him before anything else could happen, so my team would have the chance to follow up and stomp him. And then if they were an okay team, we would also win the rest of the fight with two or three people surviving after my heroic almost-suicide. But that is not a solution. Try that in lane, and he is gone into backrow before you have flashed. It is cool that killing a champion requires team effort, even while the rest of the enemy team is hitting at you from all sides. It is not cool if that champ has two CC-devices, an engage he can spam, two protective devices, and damage to three-hit every squishy within a second while evading all skillshots with built-in IAmHere,Wait,IamThere-damage abilities, just to make sure not even pure damage skillshots can hurt him after the wall is down. If he can use all of that every team fight multiple times, then that is too much for one champion. Whether you can shut him down in lane or not.

I main yasuo as well and would like to make 2 posts in respond to this post before yasuo gets nerfed to the ground. This first one will be more of a background to keep in mind while demolishing yasuo mains everywhere; the second will actually be suggested nerfs and reworks.

I want to start by saying that i truly believe that the problem of yasuo is that he is too popular; everyone makes guides about yasuo and teaches everyone else how to play yasuo, how to build yasuo, and essentially how to win with yasuo. Yasuo has a high skillcap which is true b/c of the amazing things u can do with yasuo's e that requires a bit of creativity and practice to pull off (like using the dogs in the x area to jump over the wall shown in this picture: http://prntscr.com/c3sos4) but he has an average skill base (skill to start playing) because of the vast number of guides. Even so, these are his win rates in plat elo or higher: http://prntscr.com/c3spdj

The main problem with these guides is that people don't make guides to avoid losing to yasuo: for example, realizing that yasuo has a really strong lvl 1-3, depending on the matchup, and still strong lvl 1-5 for most matchups; he falls off till late only after 6, if he didn't start snowballing. Other examples could be getting morgana, kindred, or other powerful non skillshot reliant teamfighting champs (that means not u miss fortune) as a counter pick. This means that Yasuo will take a fair bit of work to balance and that, to be honest, the best way to balance him is to constantly nerf and strengthen his damage; you could say he is a representation of league.

The other part of his popularity is that a lot of smurfs actually end up playing him (I am at fault b/c after i got gold, i decided to go get more gold accounts with much higher win rates to see how much i learned as i climbed). Is it really fair to have guys who have stats like this in the mathematics? http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=tempestreformed. he had/has a smurf with 95% win rate on yasuo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVudjASoCFw. there was another guy who had 74% win rate on yasuo but i can't find his account. This is actually true for many of the high elo yasuo smurfs. Because he is popular, more smurfs play him and dramatically skew the data.

Beast Naruto7 votes

Ok if Tanksuo is what we choose to blame, my favored idea would be

Rework 1: the one suggested by a player below me who says to have scaling defenses for tanks. This way true tanks get more benefits of tankiness while offtanks or fighters get a bit lower benefits. This will reduce the chance of anyone else like vayne or graves suddenly becoming problems. (Graves already had his time)

Guys, remember yasuo is a fighter, he isn't supposed to be squishy, he is supposed to be like a diana (best representation cause of shield), xin zhao, (erm lcs ekko), nocturne, etc. In all honesty, to me champions/players should be building according to how the game is going. It makes little sense to me to keep building full damage when u are super far behind with a nonadc other than vayne ;) just a suggestion. If someone rushes a randuin's omen and a frozen heart, why would i rush shiv/ie? I would prefer to rush maybe a black cleaver+bork or a frozen heart+triforce to kite them. (bork takes objs like barons and goes through hp tanks); triforce takes turrets.

Another idea could be

Rework 2: Arkadata's. I just would strongly emphasize that his lvl 1 q not be nerfed. Right now, his e's and lvl 1 q give him a strong lvl 1-5 (or lvl 1-3) depending on the matchup before he gets ridiculously weak till late game, unless he starts to snowball.

In the end though, to be honest, I just don't like seeing removing versatility from the game. To me, fervor of battle is a real problem. It is more or less the to-go mastery for every adc. I find it a bit ironic since the new mastery system was added so that we wouldn't all pick the same things in the same situation.

My last idea would be to add an item to removes shield though. I think shields are the one thing that have no counter play. Now, i would not say add one that prevents the flow from stacking up. Looking at recent history, shield holders like lulu (remember pro play last year), janna, tahm, etc and now sterak gage holders are just being annoying.

Ya, I'm trying to say don't change yasuo's moves, although nerfs are fine and don't weaken his early game (lvl 1 q and his es). Tyvm. :)
