Season 5 had the best map changes but had the worst metas

objectives were a team effort, no first tower gold, nexus turrets had laser, turrets also did damage. the only problem the season had was the massive champion changes in class updates. i think league needs to bring some of those map changes back

Season 5 was to me divided into three very distinct phases.

Early season 5 was a complete shitfest, this was the point in time where the only viable junglers were Lee Sin, J4 and Rek'sai. Game balance was generally in a pretty shitty place. This was marked from patch 5.1 (possibly also preseason) to 5.4.

Mid season 5 is generally what people mean when they say "S5 was my favourite season". This started in 5.5 with the Cinderhulk changes and continued through 5.16 with the Juggernaut rework, this comprised most of S5 and the meta was generally quite enjoyable once Riot toned back Cinderhulk a bit, it was probably the most diverse League has been since S2.

Late season 5 was marked by the Juggernaut reworks in patch 5.16 and continued until 5.21 with the end of Season 5. This period killed off most of the diversity of mid season 5 and forced way too many 'must pick' champs into the meta. It's also noteworthy that Riot pushed a really random Cinderhulk change that pretty much killed off tank junglers in this same patch, the only one left was Gragas and he built Echo's by this point.

It's important to remember this when you talk about Season 5, because I think a majority of people would agree that the meta between about 5.7 and 5.15 was pretty solid, certainly better than anything since.

Anything is better then the braindead rightclick sustain burst DPS ADC meta. I hated assassins mostly Zed for being super annoying but it was miles better then ADC's dominating trough the game from early to late.

Faceroll Tactics6 votes

Agreed. At least assassins lose their damage potential after they use their abilities, and have to put themselves in relative danger to do damage

Heriba2 votes

yea assasins lose their damage potencial after im dead (the mid/sup/adc/glass canon top/assasin jg) what a relief

Faceroll Tactics1 votes

Ok so because of that adcs get to keep the majority of their damage after I'm dead and that's game balance?

Also how are you dying to a single assassin burst in today's meta

PePsiLemoNN1 votes

ADC's have always done that , but now they are impossible to kill.

I just want s5 jungle back man. Back when skill was involved like tracking buff timers and choosing which smite buff to get for your team. Things like not having freeby escapes with random plants for a safer jungler experience and insane catchup xp.

but you know, they'll just keep screwing with things cuz why not, lulz

:(

I still miss purple smite.

I don't miss Kha jumping into lane and smiting the entire wave to isolate his victim. I do miss purple smite though, it let anyone jungle.

dominusx1 votes

why it feels good to be lvl 8 with 50cs lead and the other dude beeing lvl 6+(80%)

Decrit1 votes

honestly i liked old jungle, but i agree that it was more a placebo effect than anything else. Purple smite allowed many champs to do jungle but it really was the "be all end all" of smites, and while i am always for a wider jungle pool it's not like it really needs to be that wide, on an objective point of view. poacher was ridicolous, and the other two were only good on those who could already jungle well.

Old smites were nice, but again it was more like "smite wolf, smite raptors" than anything else, actual plants do that job better ( and i was skeptical, because i thought nothing would replace raptor buff when the vision plant was revealed).

Early season 5 was my favorite.

Hello I am Bird5 votes

Yeah I loved Lee Sin, Vi, and Jarvan IV so much!

HaIlMonitor2 votes

People didnt play lee, he couldn't clear that well.

Hello I am Bird1 votes

ECKS DEE WHAT??? Lee didn't need a good clear, his ganks were almost guarenteed kills with item 1400 He would snowball his way into good clears + jungle buffs like gromp and krugs made it much easier to jungle.

Yep. After season 3 the balance was going up hill. The stale meta was finally being changed and more things were becoming viable. Then Rito screwed up and never really came back. The recent changes to tanks helped fix one of the worst meta (sunfire + iceborn gauntlet) but it's still not that great.

WoonStruck2 votes

Jungle meta has never been in a great place. Either it was too strong or felt like complete shit to play.

Oh man, I'm tearing up just thinking about the good ol' days.

juggernaut rework was what made season 5 great

My Heartshaker2 votes

I think you forgot s5 was also where laneswaps happened and those were a nightmare.

Sire Hippington2 votes

For me, the most important and biggest deiffencre is vision. In S5, the trinkets were awsome, sightstone was great and if you felt the need for more you still could buy some. The totally shitty vision since S6 is a major contributor to the high jungle impac and snowbally games.

S5 in one word

Riven

Oh Lord my ass is still so sore

Pommel Knight1 votes

you mean season 3.

Death by Glamour1 votes

No no, pre juggernaut update she was dominating toplane in soloque.

Oddly enough Diana was also considered banworthy at that point

SaltyToplaneGoat1 votes

Eh no, I just picked up Lissandra top just to deal with the Rivens. Was not much of a problem, but for normal toplaners at the time... yeah she had quite some dominance

honestly riot shoud hire me for their balance team id give them a goddamn reality check on what this game is and could be

r4ndomkill1 votes

all the time in season five people were complaining about towers hitting like wet paper.

invisiblecat11 votes

The issue was that it was impossible to tower dive with the inner tower shield If I am up 5 kills, tower diving should be easy, but a 500 hp regening shield was too much Also, the team effort was due to needing to war objectives in order to get the timer for when they respawned, that way your team had to type things in chat when they happened

Sated Devourer.

Bârd1 votes

Regular Devourer was also shit to deal with, but for a different reason.

I have a friend who loved getting as many stacks as possible.

I remember one game in particular when he managed to get 80 stacks on GP jungle. He only ganked with his ult.

I miss season 5. That's the season I started in, actually and I agree, Mid Season 5 was pretty legit.

PePsiLemoNN1 votes

Hello boards? This guy said season 5 had the worst metas? Aren't you supposed to downvote him to hell cause ''season 5 best meta such diversity much fun'' ?

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

This 'only marksmen matter' meta sucks worse. 'Protect the carry' used to be a joke because there was actually more than one strategy to win.
