Why do we act like Brand/Zyra aren't meant to support?

Riot clearly intends to keep them bot lane. They aren't "supports". They're supports.

I really do not understand why rito thinks brand and zyra are supports. They have extremely little utility in their kit and have less cc than real supports.

Because "support" isn't "white mage". It's "team synergy". If they aren't supports, neither are Leona, Blitz, or Nautilus, seeing how they're all originally solo lane vanguards (well, Blitz is considered unique, but the other two).

People need to broaden what they think "support" should be.

Leona's passive is useless in a solo lane unless your jungler comes to gank, she was always intended to be a support. Not that that stopped her from being played as a top lane bruiser though, which was incredibly fun.

And what type of support leaves their adc to solo dive the last enemy she hits with her hit confirm?

Point still stands that Leona doesn't just "baby sit the carry". Her role on the team is a bit different from the traditional support, so why is it that Brand and Zyra can't do that? Oh yeah..."damage".

Gap closing and stunning an enemy is something a support would do, I'm not sure what you mean. Your statement was that she was originally meant to be played in a solo lane, which isn't true. Her entire kit is based around supporting her team and setting up plays.

No, protecting key allies is what people expect supports to do.

Besides, her original champ spotlight had her in both bot lane and solo lanes, which only drives the point home more that people shouldn't be chastising Brand/Zyra support if Leona support is a thing. Support isn't just for helpless pretty mamas in dresses and a purple yordle...and a mustache.

Zyra does not have little utility. She also has plenty of CC, on par with most supports.

Becuase they were made to be solo laners.

They were just found to work well on a small budget and so were taken botlane.

Personally I feel Support Brand is the ultimate cheese, and while he's my main I will play him only mid.

I think most players have trouble accepting these supports because they don't think a support should have large amounts of poke.

For Zyra in particular though, I have no idea why people don't think she is a support. She has amazing poke, cc, engage and she works far better as a support than say a Mid laner.

I think the main problem is that most people think of them as being too easy to kill, and would be stealing all the kills from the adc along with farm.
