Why is Pyke so incredibly safe for a "risky assassin"?

Frontline Fury··4 votes·1,070 views

His dash is the perfect mobility spell - offense, defense, you name it - it does EVERYTHING PERFECTLY. The hitbox is HUGE so you can't possibly miss it, the cooldown is low and the damage is high. It outranges flash!

Why does his ultimate pierce / ignore shields? Why does his ultimate reset even if he fails to execute a target with it? Why are his mana costs so extremely low compared to all other supports in the game?

I don't know but then again the balance team makes horrible decisions day in and day out. Pyke is an abomination and shouldn't have been created in the first place.

I think they should increase his E cooldown.

I think they should increase his E cooldown.

It's 15 seconds @ max lvl just learn to position instead

They need to remove CDR from Duskblade.*

TLDR: Take it from a Pyke main hes easily countered you're just bad

Lets go over Pyke kit and compare it to over assassins in LoL to start lets look at Pyke passive it gives him minimal 1 AD for every 14 bonus HP but prohibits him from gaining bonus HP. This at its heart is a gimmick it is more efficient to buy damage than HP at that conversion rate. Due to this, Pyke cannot build defense and since he has low scaling is out scaled by everyone mid game. This passive alone makes him easy to deal with draw the game 30 mins and hes useless. *Note the grey HP part is fair compensation for it since hes so squishy and vulnerable to poke.

Next let's look at his Q. Let me be frank to hit a hook the enemy has to be way out of position or Pyke has to use flash. Its animation is so long plus on top of that it doesn't pull in the enemy that much so you still have to use other E to follow up( More on that later). His W helps him deal with poke using his passive and roam. It can be used to escape but the "you can't take damage part makes it's use as a standalone escape small

Pyke E is honestly one of the most fair ability's in LoL to start it has a fixed 15 second CD this is huge making using it as engage super risky as you are then left with no escape. This although it is high damage requires him to go in deep with no escape which in my opinion is super fair. On top of that it has a delay making it easy to dodge with basic movement ability's and for immobile ADC's if they are in range that on them for bad positioning.

Lastly lets take a look at Pyke ult. Lets first get rid of some misconceptions to Start Pyke ult only gets a reset if he kills a champion or if they would've been killed by it but teammates got the kill first. He does not get resets off of item 3026 or things like Tryndamere Ult. Keeping this in mind notice how thin the X in his hit box, this coupled with the cast time makes dodging it a matter of skill which is super fair.

This combined with his reliance in the limited and incredibly expensive lethality makes Pyke easy to counter with basic CC and positioning. Let me know if I missed anything and I will gladly update it.

Pyke doesn't need his enemies to be out of position to hit Q. If they're immobile, he can literally just walk up to them while charging and there's nothing they can do about it without using flash. If he lands the hook, aftershock lets him avoid taking any damage while either dashing on them or away from them, either guaranteeing a kill for his marksman or escaping from combat having dealt the victim 40-60% of their max HP in damage while taking 20% of his own, tops.

He really does require his enemy's to lands a hook on anything that isn't front line. The animation is really long and easy to see plus it hit the first target his for a marksmen to get hit they need to be out of position as in general they shouldn't be in front of the tanks. So correction to land a hook on a carry is near impossible with proper positioning

Mana costs have always been one if his weaknesses actually. Part of the nerfs to his Tank build was because he rushed Frozen Heart to get 20% CDR and offset his mana costs; the rest was just to complement FH and Aftershock

Just play safe early. If he doesn't get fed and the game goes past 20 minutes, he becomes useless as he can't support as well pretty much every other support champion, even some non meta support champions. Building hp helps a lot as well.
