What's The Deal With Strong Burst/Weak Tank Items?
I used to love this game, and still do in many ways. Have tried coming back a couple times over the past few years, but it seems every time the amount of burst seems to increase. I remember in season 4-5 in particular burst was still fairly high, but if you wanted to fight against it building Armor/MR actually felt effective. I remember running around with pure CDR/Tank items on Bard back then and it actually felt like you could stand up against the damage while giving up the ability to do any yourself. Deep ward without fear, flank behind the enemy to setup a nice long chain of stuns- it was great! Or if you build full tank on Nautilus? Boy could you wade into fights and be an absolute peel machine. Now? Both of those champions can output rather ridiculous damage (Electrocute Bard is just stupid), but if you actually want to play a purely utility/crowd control role the items in the game just don't want to support it. I know Riot largely has their act together as a company and can't help but wonder if they're intentionally catering to low attention span players? Game lengths seem much shorter, too, which syncs up pretty well with that idea. Still, I wonder when the decision was made to gut tankiness because it sure doesn't feel very good :/
