Reguarding the "New Champ"

I never thought this to be a new champ, I just thought a lore expansion at first. Have they done something like this before? I have only seen aurelion come out, as I joined about a week after jhin released.

New champ usually comes out before the lore does.
The only time similar to this was Illaoi Illaoi, who made a cameo during the Gangplank event called "Burning Tides."
If this starts becoming even a tiny trend woven between normal teasers I definitely won't complain.
Also... Azir Shurima and FreljordAnivia HYPE^^

Sadly I think she hates azir because of the whole slave thing and that sucks because hes one of my fav champs :(

She hasn't met him yet though :3 All she's heard was a story from some random creepy merchants. Maybe through her Azir can again gain the trust of his people? I love Azir too and would hate for him to end up the bad guy <3

IDK sounds similar to yasuo to me sooooooo.

Just instead of wind its earth or rocks or something.

I hope she fights/plays like yasuo and riven with high mobility since she's being taught by yasuo in the lore and i just really really like Riven.

Yep, they usually tease a champion in some way before they actually reveal them formally; sometimes they have several teasers.

Champs usually come out on a 2 month cycle; about 1 month after the last one, they'll start teasing the next, within a week or two they'll be on PBE, and then the next patch (2 weeks after that) is when the PBE patch goes live.

Lore in league died ages ago. Basically, anything and everything you like and enjoy about any current champion is subject to change the second a new champion comes out and needs a story. For a while there, Ionia was free and Sivir was just a mercenary. Not the many greats grand daughter of a pidgeon man.

As for the ways Riot releases new champions, here is a few run downs of what they have used.

Hype a new map/champion by creating a month long (possibly longer) Frejlord event where you thought, just maybe, some lore would be resolved (It wasn't) (Lissandra/ARAM map) (And by just maybe some lore would be resolved, we had tons of information on 4 different tribes, Trundle was changed to relfect Ice instead of the troll version of ebola-aids, and now its been years and as far as the lore has gone, nothing has changed except ashe and trynd got married [no idea if they still are])

Create a fake newspaper, release interesting tidbits of interesting side focus, like the fact that Blitzcrank has a dating service for humans, spend a few weeks/months writing said news paper, release the map Dominion, then completely forget about it. (This is when they changed Skarner from being just a random scorpian to being the herald of his people, awaking first to find if the land was safe for his kind again. He got changed. Again a while later.)

Change the backstory of at least 6 different champions (Nasus, Renekton, Skarner, Sivir, Cassiopeia, Xerath) to release Azir because that makes sense. Abandon the entire shurima story because.... well IDK, ADHD?

Create a giant pirate event with a change of ARAM map and a new voice for summoners rift for the rework to GP/MF and tease out Illaoi (if i remember correctly)

Now what they do usually is this, release a champions backstory, it will usually have more written pages than any champion before it, but actually tell less about the champion than the 1 paragraph backstory summary in the release notes. It may or may not completely retcon everything that existed before it. I've actually stopped reading them other than to be sure a new champ is coming within the next month or so. If it looks like they are changing their ways and possibly focusing a little on lore, it's a good sign that they are setting up a new champion and then going back to interviews with challenger teams within 1 week of the champion hitting live servers.

There will never be a lore expansion to league of legends. I would not be surprised if when the new client comes out, everything will change to LoL instead of League of Legends spelled out. As the creators of League of Legends actually retconned the League of Legends out of the League of Legends Lore, nothing is set in stone. They still have a "Summoners Code" even though Summoners were also retconned out of the game.

Honestly, I hope they just scrap the entire lore subject and just go "We thought it would be cool to have a dragon with a giant ball fly around the map stunning people" or "We just thought it would be fun to have a sniper champion because Caitlyn... didn't really end up as a sniper so we stole her kit for a new person." I think everyone knows they are just pushing the competitive scene and putting most of their focus on that, they should just fire whichever poor soul is required to write the new lore and put that money into design teams and try for 1 new champ a month instead of 1 every 2ish months. It's gotta suck to know everything you do might be changed 2 months in the future when they need to hype something new because last quarters numbers were down 2%

It usually goes Teaser (Story and/or Video) -> Official Reveal -> Champion on PBE -> Dev Blog -> Release.

So yes, Taliyah's story means new champ.
