Is it me, or items/gear should be giving stats and not abilities to make up for a champs kit?

For example let's think of Leona a CC tank. She can lock down targets and has a defense buff to help her live. However item 3190 gives her a Party shield a function outside of a lockdown tank.

Let's think of Lucian top, his kit offers a good deal of mobility. A dash, reset, and can move while ultying. Now add in item 3153 and he now get's some CC on a champion that's already moving too fast.

I think, all these items and actives we have in the game are ruining it because the game is now about how to maximize or abuse the actives and even runes with all the abundant utility added to it.

Remember when Janna used to be a counter engage because of her kit? now she is a shield slave that grants even more extra damage item 3504 and has a second AOE party heal item 3107

Assassins needing item 3147 to make up for what they do not have in their kit, why? and then that same item is being also used by others to gain a burst of damage that their kit wasn't design to have.

Chill with these OP ass items, i would Opt that a lot of them should be deleted and rework to be stat items but that won't ever happen so stop making so many and sooo overtuned.

Runes used to give stat when the game was more healthy balanced but then these "special" runes were added like thunderlords and what not and the games balanced started feeling like shit now the new rune system all it mostly is is utility.

Have champions be played for their kits not what items or runes they can abuse.

That's one way to see the game.

I've heard (though have 0 experience to support) that DOTA2 actually focuses even harder on actives for items.

I see what you're getting at, but I just don't think the game would stay interesting if all the items were stat bricks. You can say that currently, only the people that can best abuse the items flourish; that would still be true if all the items just gave stats.

You are correct.

The thing is, Dota2s effects are all EXTREME effects (the ones worth discussing, at least). Such as a point and click targeted immunity CC that anyone can purchase, and use on the enemy or themselves.

The problem lies in the way the games are designed. You can draw the comparisons as much as you want, but Dota2 and League are not the same game. And I personally think Dota2 is superior, im trash at it so I stick to League when im semi-competent.

OP makes a good point in that items can lessen champions weaknesses (or add unnecessary strengths) in League, whereas Items in Dota2 accentuate champions strengths moreso than replace their weaknesses.

I see your point and you are right, but i don't mean all actives should be gotten rid of. Just the ones that are too staple to the meta/game. I just feel they add more than they should (?) primarily the champion should rely a lot more on their kits and the actives/runes should be a nice addition but should not be a deciding factor. Before we didn't have as many actives as today and there wasn't as many chaotic balance issues, the issues were mainly kits that were solved over time ( such as lb, talon and kassadin having a silence )

if you do that, you completley invalidate the point of itemization utterly. if all items just provide stats, then the only item that will be bought are the ones that statistically give the most. if that happens, then buying items ceases to matter since choice and thought about item buys ceases to exist.

the reason items have gone in this direction is precisely because of this. If items didn't have unique effect, there would be no reason to even think about what item you are getting, thus making item purchases pointless gameplay wise.

I feel like adding to weaknesses isnt really terrible. I often feel like things like frozen mallet/Duskblade create more issues with in the game consistently because the champions that use them have to have them to want to do exactly what they are add so it makes them more oppressive instead of fixing a small issue the champ has. And often if they nerf the items in any way it makes the champions that use them useless.

item 3031 item 3165 and item 3046 . this hits ranged carries more than anyone so im okay with it. and id argue that cdr is an ability rather than a stat
