Why is Yasuo ulti always up?

taleofsonata··93 votes·5,417 views

He always comes back in lane with an ulti up, even after ulting me. He could ult twice in a teamfight... Why is his ulti on such a low cooldown, is it because it requires a condition which is a knock up? But it applies a very huge debuff that stays for way too long.

Edit: To all people that says its on a 80 Sec, 55 sec, 30sec you do know that his 1st items are item 3101 item 3057 which both give a total of 20% CDR. Soo Technically his R at rank 1 when he gets those items is 64sec, 44sec, 24sec but some yasuo build item 3071 which is another 20%. for a total of 40% 48sec, 22sec, 18sec.

On top of all that if yasuo kill you, he will get the 1st tower of the game, because his Q and sheen. Almost 80% of the yasuo I've played against or with always get 1st tower of the game from just one kill.

Lets be real, Yasuo can ult from pretty much anything in the game such as,

Trundle Pillar, a FUCKING PILLAR. Vayne E, Viktor W, Maokai Q, Gragas R, Gragas E,

Cause rito though it was a good idea to create a champ without cooldowns.

a crazy person named certainlyT thought i would be fun to make champs that are zero fun to play against... a crazy company named riot still hasn't fired him... #feelsbadman

sir d wreck18 votes

Don't you think firing him is a bit extreme? I don't like Yasuo at all, but I'm glad that they explore some champs and try to be creative. Yes sometimes they go too far or make mistakes, but firing him for a champion that people don't like?

KhaZixTheScyther7 votes

thing is without certainlyt being the one who pushes riots limits, bard wouldn't have been made, and several other champs. Riot was scared to push the limits as far as he did and they stated this in a Q&A. He may have made some shit champs but holy fuck hes opened a huge door.

WinTheWarOnPants1 votes

idk what he has to do with bard, but imo bard was a pretty huge failure of a champ. he was supposed to be a roaming caretaker, but didn't work and instead of giving him the numbers to make him more sup, they turned him into a kill sup.... 99% of the time i see bard he has ignite. he takes ignite more than any other sup in the game, "caretaker" my ass lol. also, do you have a link to the Q&A you're talking about.

pushing limits is great and all, but only if it works. and from what i can tell certainlyT puts out the most consistent crap that doesn't work. maybe he just needs to not be a lead designer and have someone better keep him in check idk. every time i heard he was working on something i thought "dear god this is gonna suck" and when it was released i thought "yep... it sucks...". since riot never reverts things they put out is what makes it more of a problem. they say "hmmm the new mord doesn't seem to have turned out exactly as we planned, but we wil leave it in the game and tweak numbers till he's in the ground" instead of what they should say/do "HOLY SHIT THIS IS TERRIBLE!!! GET THAT THING OUT OF THE GAME RIGHT NOW!!!!". i'm sure he's a great guy and all but anyone who thinks "let's force a melee champ with zero mobility into a lane that completely counters him(range and peel) and make it work..." is not someone i personally would let near a league champ design table lol

as riot stated bard wouldnt have been made if CT hadnt tried multiple passives, varius ways of doing one thing and so on. Yasuo is a fun to play and strong champion yes. hes front loaded but its not due to his kit that items break him. its due to items being changed to fix other champions that inevitably make him strong.

IMO yes CT has fucked up many a time. but CT has done wonderfully as well.

I find it crazy how his ultimate at rank 3 has a 30s cool down with no CDR... and it's even shorter with the 20% CDR from item 3078.

Memeguel4202 votes

so if you have 45 percent cdr on yasuo your ult was a cooldown around 17 seconds?????

Hardstuck G48 votes

16.5 if memory serves

MrryZ7 votes

So yasuo can ult about every time renekton can E? Seems fair

doombotMECHA3 votes

that's hardly an ultimate at all.

that's hardly an ultimate at all.

The actual damage is decent. The cc time of them staying knocked up in the air is very exceptional in teamfights, and the applied debuff for a hilariously long 15 seconds (leaving an effective 2.5 second window for which the enemy gets to fight with all his freaking armor intact if he even lives that long) is tremendous, it's basically a free upgraded LW without the passive but with even more bonus ar pen.

I'm honestly surprised that yasuos don't run ar pen items like ADCs with the amount of free armor pen he gets against tanks anyways.

SlampieceHawke20 votes

Has to do a lot to use it? like dash into/ knock up combo is actually difficult? Or that his team mates can't knock up people for him?

CerealBoxOfDoom5 votes

dash into = risk + windup knockup = long windup

he has to get 3 charges to do it

Yes, his team can help him but then he has to rely on his team for it

and even thenhis ult isn't always worth it. If his ult had a long cooldown it would be rendered more useless than normal.

CookyPrince7 votes

I thought it was 2 then the 3rd was the knockup

CerealBoxOfDoom2 votes

either way he isn't just randomly pooping his ult out whenever he feels like it.

Velzard of Koz4 votes

Neither are Jarvan or Bard who can even harm their allies instead of helping and yet they have 90 second cooldown on their ults.

CerealBoxOfDoom3 votes

Being able to harm one's allies is nearly irrelevant. Yasuo risks not being able to use his ult at all while those two need do nothing more than point and click in most cases

Velzard of Koz3 votes
  1. Bard's ult has decent delay, enough so that it isn't just "point and click"
  2. Yasuo can use his low-CD point and click dash to make his ult easier to be activated and I am not talking about "divedash". In teamfight, when you have to focus on more different things, one Yasuo using one right minion to surprise you with his whirlwind isn't really thing of rocket science

Finally, low CD on his ult to compensate doesn't need to mean 30 seconds without CDR when so many champs have their abilities' CDs balanced around easier access to high CDR.

CerealBoxOfDoom6 votes
  1. irrelevant, bard uses his ult and his ult will happen. There is no chance that it will not happen. There is 0 risk and no setup for activation, he simply uses it.

  2. no, yasuo does not "surprise you" You know when he has used his Q or has had the opportunity to do so, you know when his knockup is ready, you know when he can dash to you. There is no surprise dash. You either stay prepared or you eat that shit of your own free will. There's nothing hidden about it. If you can't focus on too many things that's your own fault not yasuo's or anyone else's.

Yasuo even in this case has to rely on teammates and minions JUST TO ACTIVATE his ult. Bard's ult activation obstacles, which don't really exist, do not compare.

Ehh there is that huge risk of it backfiring and screwing over his allies making it do more harm then good... which is a pretty huge risk

That Dash into knock up combo requires you to have 2 stacks, which the enemy can see you stacking up way before you get the stacks. So its predictable :x.

Troll for Trump2 votes

No.That's why he enters the fights late. You're already fighting, so you can't leave. You're sitting ducks, and there's nothing you can do about it. IF Yasuo was the initiator, there would be more counterplay, but he isn't. If he were an assassin, it would be ok to sweep down like that, but he's not.

Not even knock up, just "displace" which over half of the champion roster can do.

i have posted many of times im ok with his damage out put, im ok with the crit strike aspect of his kit, i dont like the cds of his kit

that is where the nerfs should be focused

Guy Fox Teemo2 votes

He doesn't get the damage output he has if he had high cds, on such shitty abilities.... Imagine if his Q had like a 7 second CD, or his E being on 3 seconds. They would be complete and utter shit abilities. Because they have almost no power by themselves, and need to be spammed to have a good effect on the outcome of a fight.

i didnt say high cool downs im not talking 20 secs but maybe an lil longer would give you a change for counter play

Guy Fox Teemo4 votes

Because its his only ability that does damage reliably? None of his other abilities do any significant damage, on a constant.

Thats like asking why Yi's Q is always up, because he needs it because none of his other abilities do damage on the constant, they just amp his damage.

Velzard of Koz4 votes
  1. E does significant damage If you're squishy (Yasuo's supposed target) and he maxed it (which they usually do first). I am not sure If by significant damage you mean shredding 50% of HP?

  2. Yi's Q isn't always up. He needs to get his ult in the first place and then get kills or assists. Otherwise he needs to basicattack a lot to use it in short time again. And after those basicattacks, his E is literally his secondary constant source of (true) damage. I get what you mean but comparing it to Yi's Q is weird.

Also, the fact Yasuo's Q is his only primary source of damage is already compensated by decent base damage, 100% AD ratio, on-hit applying. Not to mentoin he's AD-based basicattacker with even passive advantage to his critical strikes. He can do up to 200 constant damage by each basicattack within short time pariod. So again I am not sure what you mean by "constant".

CerealBoxOfDoom3 votes

I ask myself.. why does a champ with an rng centric passive need a reliable damage ability?

Also Yi's Q isn't always up, unlike yasuo he doesn't get more Q just for building attack speed, he has to work for that shit by autoattacking something..

i mean yasuo ult is practically on a shorter cooldown than many champs abilities these days (like reksai tunnel)

You know what I'd really like to see? Increase it's cooldown to something like 120/90/60, reduced to 90/60/30 if he hits it on his own knockup. The ability is overloaded to hell and back (nonexistant cooldown, huge damage, hard CC, a steroid - oh, and a shield, because at this point why the fuck not) on the presumption that there is a restriction on using it - but that restriction is almost nonexistant considering the abundance of knockups in th game and the fact that his EQ is unavoidable.

Frius7 votes

i remember tyhat idiotic post from rioter yas ult is short cd ,because he must not build cdr

Hamaka5 votes

80 seconds at rank 1. 55 seconds at rank 2. 30 seconds at rank 3.

It's actually kind of justified for being that length early game because for the most part at level 6 you are still against a lane opponent and he basically is on his own to land his Q's even though he has a variety of tricks to make them land easier.

However late game is unjustified because most teams will pick at least 1 champ with a knock up for yasuo. meaning every 30 seconds he can pull off an ulti with the help of an assisting teammate.

I personally do feel it needs a cdr nerf at later ranks.

Bladerunner77774 votes

Yas ult on a short CD isn't the reason Yasuo is OP

The Loveless4 votes

Nah just one of the reasons.

Marshbouy4 votes

Because it's a short cooldown? how about luxes ultimate?

Mannysmoker5 votes

I say the same, she can clear a wave go B and is already up when she comes to lane..

PokladnicaZla7 votes

Unlike Yasuo,Lux has to invest in CDR to get ulty that low.

Squidward Dab4 votes

Having a Malphite or Alistar or any spell that causes the enemy champion to move makes him ulting in team fights 10X easier. The fact that he can only ult with a displacement doesn't justify it being on such a low cd.

If they're gonna give it a low cooldown make it so when the tooltip says knocked up, it has to be an ability that says that it KNOCKS THEM UP, not a pull, not a draws them in, not a stand aside but a KNOCK UP. Spells like Lee sin kick or blitz knock up make sense, but when some bullshit like draven stand aside or thresh death sentence triggers the ult it's like wtf

9kPluzZ3 votes

Because its situational to use?

Vistha Kai3 votes

Because Last Breath doesn't have exceptional damage, cannot be cast at will and is purposely kept at a low cooldown to not give players incentive to buy CDR, keeping Windwall's cooldown reasonably high.

Well, Riot failed big time putting any CDR on Trinity Force, but that's a different can of worms.

PS. Who the hell builds Black Cleaver on Yasuo? I haven't seen that happen once.
