Ironic how Illaoi's all about being in motion
When the entirety of her damage requires her to be stationary.
When the entirety of her damage requires her to be stationary.
The entirety of Illaoi's gameplay can be summed up as "No, YOU move"
That's why I like her :)
And being a badass unkillable split pusher if your team is distracting enough.
and needing buffs because she's the weakest champ in the game
Well, that's debatable. A champion that can fend off an entire team just because she has an area filled with tentacles to the point in which you're at their base and the enemy team can do nary a thing to stop your advance isn't considered, in the status quo, "weak."
And I'm speaking here as an lllaoi player. I did this crap for a week in ranked, it was a blast.
Illaoi is probably one of the easiest juggernauts to shit on
for a champ with awful chase and slow af skillshots + can't keep you in her zone, it's a mystery why something hasn't been improved
I can't really find data supporting the statement "weakest champ in the game", though. Her winrate (in low and high elo) is always between 49% and 50% according to Lolalytics.
Seems fairly balanced in my opinion.
for a champion with such a low play rate I would argue it's a sign of her being a little weak
though all I think -needs- to happen is fixing her E's interactions with DOT champs because most of her unwinnable matchups stem from that issue

I like how slap happy Illaoi can get if she has a few enemies dumb enough to stay in her ult.
I've been trying out RFC on her and it seems pretty useful to reach the backline ADC easier. What are your thoughts on it?

Aren't RFC stats rather useless for Illaoi? Wouldn't Righteous Glory for the movement speed be better?
If anything you should take Death's Dance. Your power is supposed to be centralized in one area, building to move away is not effective. You have to use the threat of her tentacles to prevent retaliation at certain objectives.
That's why I was so stupidly effective as a split pusher. You build up tentacles next to a turret and your opponent can do very little. And, if you play your cards right, their team finds even less success in stopping you.
So I'm guessing the fact that a kayle who can just sit right outside of your zone and poke you with her E was the most depressing thing for you?
Nope. Facing a Draven top was.
I then understood the true meaning of the term 'chinese torture.'

Mmm, I buy it for the passive mainly, as her W gets even more range on top of the 350 one (472 range total!). W can crit, being that it's an empowered basic attack and with ult, she can use W a lot faster to generate the passive more. But I buy it as a situational item mainly when there are some pesky ADCs who are good at kiting. I tried Righteous Glory and its stats are great, but the active is only a 90s cooldown, which isn't the greatest, making chasing consistently difficult. That said, I do BC -> RFC -> IBG -> Tank items and boots somewhere (especially Deadman's for more MS).
I'll try DD in my build and see if I like that.
You were on a little roll there, then you dropped this on us.
She's needs a small damage buff, but I wouldn't call her the "weakest champ in the game".
damage isn't her problem
Yeah, Test of Spirit also needs its "reduced by 1 second each time Illaoi receives damage from the target" removed. It causes very lopsided matchups for no good reason.
It would be much better if it scaled with level like 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10 second duration, had its tether range slightly reduced, or just something that keeps her viable without ruining the ability for her.
needs cooldown shaved off her ult and for E to not be cucked by DOT
then she'd be decent
It causes very lopsided matchups for no good reason.
The reason is that it allows for counterplay outside of just running. It means fighting her can be an option.
Which is fine in theory, except it's easily exploited by dot to the point where Malzahar with DFT cancels it almost instantaneously.
If you look at her worst matchups, they win solely because they exploit that time reduction, not because they actually counter her.
seems like ryze has such a low playrate you dont even know he is weak
ryze is a pro play champion
would like a word
Her power comes from the lack of intelligence of her enemies. Unlike other champs the more you play her is the harder it is to play with her because the better you're enemies get at player against her.
You could basically say she has a negative skill cap. She has, I would say, the most counterplay in the entire game so I can understand why you'd say she's weak.
But I don't think she is though.
i don't think it's that extreme
illaoi actually has a very deceptively high skill ceiling, it doesn't look that way to opponents because she doesn't do any big dashy outplays, she just finds a way to smash your head in
i would consider her the juggernaut equivalent of Shaco despite being 'more like' heimerdinger; she's not going to just turtle in her nest like heim is but she wants to bait you into her traps, like Shaco
The problem with analogy is that Shaco acts through deception. He sneaks around to do his work. For Illaoi, that is literally impossible. All her damage comes from her Tentacles, which are either extremely visible or attached to her ult. Which people can walk out of.
It's about making your targets to move. She is very clear about it being more an order than a lifestyle.

Now that reminded me of Camille. ^^
"There are two sides to every issue - my side and the wrong side." ~
Staying in motion is a metaphorical life stance, not a literal fighting technique. Her "This ends one of two ways - they run, or I break them." is a much better description of her ingame style. Tbh, Illaoi's thematic merges very well with her playstyle.
Her W is a dash... Guys this is a joke. Come on.
A very short range dash, and that was not OP's point at all.
It was a joke...
omg this is gameplay dont u even dare to joke here xd xd get downvoted to morrowind scrub
Downvoted to morrowind. XD Ok, I love that phrase.
Excuse me but Morrowind is best! >:b
...Also wasn't the OP making a joke in the first place?
I think you mean Scrib.
You N'wah.
Her W is a dash... Guys this is a joke. Come on.
And basically the very opposite of what a juggernaut should be allowed todo, rather easy 'gap closing' with no proper wind up timer on the R or E to give players enough time to get out of the way or be stupid and get basically 3k hp to 1k or less in just a few short seconds and Illaoi jumps from 10% to easily over half her health because of all those 5%s stacking up.
Granted, i still feel like the issue is Riot doesn't understand how to balance things like Mobility which again seems to be rather 'EZ' for everyone to exploit the hell out of wall jumps with flash because Riot couldn't nerf
so people would be unable to use it for wall jumping and abusing it for 'EZ' escapes and 'EZ' jump ins over a wall, especially to completely eliminate the issue on closing a gap then dunking some ridiculously strong combo of CC or so.
Instead they basically gave every champion afterwards either the ability for rather EZ gap closing, rather EZ high poke, rather EZ 'intentional' wall jump mechanics or just plain mechanics that make any old champion in demand for massive overhauls or be stuck on rather bad positions until some kind of meta rolls around when all the overpowered stuff finally got blunted, but said blunted 'champions' are still overly strong to give the champions who finally got a spotlight to play are just plain unable to except in organized comps or teams that are not 'to much' brain-dead.
[slayer-jinx-unamused]
But in Illaoi's case, people can't learn the number 1 rule when fighting Illaoi, you don't fucking fight her where she throws down her R, you force her out of that area, make her waste her R and then punish her while its on cooldown. If you lane against her you need to play the long haul (
ESPECIALLY) and just harass her with something like
damage and Nasus's AoE damage harass moves and safely pick up your stacks then be risky and let her get a E op on you.
She wants YOU to be in motion, and her kit actually delivers in that sense
She has to move to spawn tentacles. Her opponents have to move to avoid tentacles.
She never says you have to move far. ;p
How is she all about "motion"? How is it any different from any other champion?
it's a euphemism, you'll get it when you're older
Okay, I had a laugh.
You know....that's a really good point lol
But When Illoai gets hit with that Lux, Morgana, Viegar stun. Das yo ass. You can forget about movement
she is always moving... like swinging a ball around or jumping way into the air to slam down on the same spot... I mean sure she is standing in the same place at the start and end.. but she IS MOVING
wrong motion they meant
but the joke was pretty good. +1
She must hate morde with his ms.
Technically, Illaoi's all about her opponent being in motion in order to pass her tests. She punishes stationary enemies really hard, and is deliberately quite slow herself so that she can be escaped from.
Her test of spirit stuff is forcing the target of his test to stay in motion so her tenticles don't hit them, in her lore she ults GP and GP was dodging around, she didn't do shit and just stood there.
