An easy way to tackle Soraka's current issue
So first of all, I have played as Soraka a lot (Can't call myself Soraka main yet, though) I am not a fan of the recent (reverted) changes on Soraka in PBE.
They shifted her self-heal from her W to her Q, made her Q slow to all affected enemies, reduced the slow on it.
And then they nerfed her W heal for allies.
Do you guys not see how wrong this is?
Tell me if I am wrong, but I do recall Riot's stance on placing her W passive on her W mainly because they did not want her to be a solo laner. They wanted all cheese Soraka solo laners to vanish by splitting her damage and major self-sustain source into 2 spells, forcing these players to pick either more damage or more self-sustain. They wanted ONLY, and I mean only, Soraka supports, not Soraka top or mid.
They were regressing back to what they originally did not intend her to do. Instead of fixing what her actual problem is (her early game heals are way too spammable and invalidates enemies' damage almost completely without any meaningful interactions), they were placing her in an awkward situation. They are making her more of a solo laner now, because not only do they place her sustain and damage in one package, they are also nerfing her major support power, healing, which in turns means she received no compensation for her supporting power, which is what Riot has defined her as. Thank heavens these changes will not be implemented in 6.2 patch, or all hell will break loose.
There is actually one very simple thing they can. They can actually focus on rewarding players who use their W at the right times and punishing players for doing so at the wrong times. Allow me to illustrate:
- Astral Infusion (W)
- Cooldown increased to 6 / 5.5 / 4 / 3 / 2 from 4 / 3.5 / 3 / 2.5 / 2
- Mana Cost increased to 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 / 120 from 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60
- Base Heal to ally decreased to 60 / 75 / 90 / 120 / 180 from 120 / 150 / 180 / 210 / 240
- [NEW EFFECT] "If Soraka heals an ally that has taken enemy damage within 1.5 seconds with Astral Infusion, the ally will be granted 75 / 93.75 / 112.5 / 137.5 / 162.5 HP5 bonus health regeneration (counted as external heal) over the course of 4 seconds, and half of the mana cost is refunded and the cooldown is reduced by 2 seconds (At rank 4 and 5 activating this effect resets the spell completely and refunds ALL mana cost immediately). This effect has a 7 / 6 / 5 / 4 / 3 second cooldown, which cannot be reduced by Cooldown Reduction."
With this suggestion, Soraka players has to use the spell intelligently by casting it on ally when they are taking damage. This will identify good Soraka players from bad Soraka players, and expose Soraka to danger because she has to stay close to her allies during teamfights while sacrificing her health.
This suggestion is aimed at correcting her broken early game power spike while giving her an opportunity to truly shine by shifting her power to late game, where she should shine as a dominate healer. Without making any changes to her Q (like Riot proposed), they can prevent her from being a solo laner while making sure the power budget in her healing is still intact and strong.
