Instead of retiring Teambuilder, why don't you replace Blind Pick with Teambuilder?

^ Title.

Those of you who play Blind pick all the time will notice the inherent problems with Blind Pick:

  1. Instalockers instalocking a role after someone else has enlisted the role
  2. Timestamps of chat and internet connections of players varying causing the following: a) Someone connects to the champion select late. Not knowing what roles has already been called, he calls a role someone else has already signed up and instantly locks in a champion, contributing to an omitted role and the ineffectiveness of team composition. b) People squabble over one specific role with chat logs. You guys sure are familiar with the "catchphrase" "I called first. Player 1: top Player 2: top Player 1: top I called first y u instalock?"
  3. People do not get the roles they desire thanks to Call Order and end up being forced into a role they do not want. Technical problems and not being able to type and spam fast enough are 2 major reasons this happens.

So replacing Blind Pick with Teambuilder fixes the mess of high queue & waiting time in Teambuilder, while effectively eliminating the above problems, while making sure people who only want to play one role and one champion at a given time satisfied.

As for the issue of off-meta picks being easier to be rejected by Team Captain, Riot can fix this by establishing a system where the waiting time is significantly longer the more Team Captain rejects players from joining the game.

TL;DR Blind Pick has too many flaws and Team Builder can effectively fix these flaws.

Edit: I see some concerns about long waiting time. In fact, after the removal of Blind Pick, anyone who used to play on Blind Pick will be switching to Teambuilder, significantly reducing the waiting time/queue time. Long waiting time will vanish subsequently when Blind Pick does not exist.

Edit2: To elaborate on my point of off-meta picks, I'd love to add some key points:

  • The approximate waiting time for each empty role Team Captain delegates will be shown inside the box of each role.

  • The more players Team Captain accept the faster the system will assign players to your team. The rewards will be as follows:

  • accepting 1 player: minus 20 seconds from approximate waiting time

  • accepting 2 players CONSECUTIVELY: minus 40 seconds from approximate waiting time

  • accepting 3 players CONSECUTIVELY: minus 60 seconds from approximate waiting time

  • accepting 4 players CONSECUTIVELY: minus 80 seconds from approximate waiting time

  • accepting additional number of players CONSECUTIVELY: minus 20 x (number of instances) seconds per player from approximate waiting time

Note: These bonuses are cumulative and affect every single empty role. The bonuses stack infinitely as long as Team Captain keeps accepting players cumulatively.

  • The more players Team Captain reject the slower the system will assign players to your team. Apart from increased cooldowns already inflicted after rejecting players in the original Team Builder, the team will receive the following penalties:
  • rejecting 1 player: plus 30 seconds to approximate waiting time
  • rejecting 2 players: plus 40 seconds to approximate waiting time
  • rejecting 3 players: plus 65 seconds to approximate waiting time
  • rejecting 4 players: plus 85 seconds to approximate waiting time
  • rejecting additional number of players: plus 20 x (number of instances) seconds per player to approximate waiting time

Note: Like the "bonuses", these punishments are cumulative and affect every single empty role, and the penalty can keep accumulating infinitely if Team Captain keeps rejecting players.

  • The more a player leaves teams VOLUNTARILY at a given time, the longer the queue time will be:
  • leaving once in 10 minutes: plus 20 seconds to approximate queue time
  • leaving twice in 10 minutes: plus 30 seconds to approximate queue time
  • leaving three times in 10 minutes: plus 55 seconds to approximate queue time
  • leaving four times in 10 minutes: plus 70 seconds to approximate queue time
  • ** leaving five times or more in 10 minutes: plus 20 x (number of instances) seconds per instance**

Note: Again, these penalties stack cumulatively and infinitely in accordance to the number of instances.

  • Kicking players after accepting them will receive slightly less penalties, allowing them to kick toxic players without suffering severe penalties:
  • kicking 1 player: plus 10 seconds to approximate waiting time
  • kicking 2 players: plus 20 seconds to approximate waiting time
  • kicking 3 players: plus 30 seconds to approximate waiting time
  • kicking 4 players: plus 40 seconds to approximate waiting time
  • kicking additional number of players: plus 15 seconds x (number of instances) per player to approximate waiting time

Note: Kicking a player places the team back to Tier 5 reward. Again, these penalties are cumulative and affect every single empty role, and also stack infinitely if Team Captain keeps kicking after accepting players.

To sum it up, if people want lower waiting time, they have to accept players as soon as possible. People who are concerned that replacing Team Builder with Blind Pick may severely and adversely affect waiting time should know that if Team Captain accepts all of the players, it can be even faster than Blind Pick.

Edit3: To fix the problem of people avoiding the least preferred roles, the least preferred role, updated every month, will be displayed and highlighted. Players who play the least preferred role will receive from nothing to some extra IP to a Hextech Crafting Key every match, based on a generator. To prevent people from abusing the system, there will be 50% chance people will receive no reward, 40% chance people will receive IP ranging from 50 to 200 IP, and 10% chance people will receive a Hextech Crafting Key.

#Edit4: Some people have raised some valid points regarding flexibility. My suggestions are as follows: #* Players are permitted to select "Fill (except for xxx roles)" and select champions after they join teams. #* After being assigned to a role, a player is allowed to change his champion up to 3 times to allow flexible team composition and discussions.

Edit5: The new champion select does not fix the problem for casual players who play this game only occassionally and want to play just one role and one champion during their rare and occassional gameplay sections. This is one of the reasons (I have mentioned other reasons above) why I think replacing Blind Pick with new revamped Team Builder seems like a reasonable idea.

I've heard a lot of suggestions/thoughts etc about Team Builder and its place in the game.

This however, has been the worst suggestion out of all of them.

I don't even play Blind, like almost ever BUT if I wanted to get a quick game in for whatever reason I would go straight to Blind Pick, queue pops fast, you just pick your champ and go. No bans, no hassle, nothing. Team builder takes like 20+ minutes to even setup/get a full team, like lol.

Sorry but no thanks.

And I don't even play either mode. HORRIBLE suggestion though.

Team builder worked like an enhanced blind pick anyway, I like this idea. +1.

lol you're selfish af because your things got taken away. just because they take away something u liked doesnt mean u get to take away something we want. Not everyone wants to wait 50 minutes to start a game. And some people dont give a shit wat role they get.

Stop trying to be a selfish bastard. ty.

Please no. The whole appeal of blind pick for me is the casual nature of it. Its just a mode for quick and easy fun. I dont want to have to sit through a captain rejecting champs he doesn't like, I want to get to know all champs and how to play with and against them, even urgot. It also teaches new people the importance of filling and helps them learn a variety of champions and roles.

Blind picks barrier to entry for new players is really low, with little strategy and low expectations and even minor increases in complications like team builders system would put people off. I know it would have put me off immediately when I first began playing.

After the removal of blind pick I'll shift to another game.

Look, I'm sorry for your loss with teambuilder. But that's no reason to ruin my fun as someone that prefers blind pick. I like the dynamic aspect, and it's the only place where I can call 'fill but not adc'. I can queue not knowing what I want to play, and pick from the roles that are left. While instalocking does make me salty, it's part of the blind pick risks. How about they just bring back teambuilder as a seperate queue.

tl;dr: don't make your problems our problems.

Bump. I've been saying blind pick needs to go for years.

Blind pick is made to be fast not slow.

I don't like this idea. The only reason I have ever played blind pick was because que times were fast. I don't believe shutting down blind pick would be all that great for team builder. The main problem with team builder was captains not accepting champions.

To lazy to look at the official page of the new champion select?

Scroll down and you find Big and Fat!

PBE first, normal draft soon after, ranked and blind pick later during the 2016 season

How about we just Bring back Team Builder and remove nothing? That way people who actually like Blind pick don't lose something and Those who miss Team builder get the queue they actually like back while we still have the advanced Draft queues. What's wrong with that?

Blind Pick has flaws, I still like it.

Hawkefire1/17/2016, 8:54:20 AM1 votes

How about no. Sorry to be blunt about this, and I am sorry that they removed something that you liked, but removing something that other people like so you can have your thing is not the answer (and selfish if you ask me).

I for one really like blind pick, as I don't have to wait for pretty darn long amounts of time to get a full team for teambuilder, and I enjoy the more casual nature of blind. That and I am better able to practice champions as I have no idea what I shall be up against (or, more often than not, what type of team comp I shall actually end up being in), and thus I am "forced" to deal with bad situations.

Here's a simpler answer: how about we just keep Teambuilder, Blind PIck, and the new dynamic picking? There is literally no reason why the three of them can't coexist, considering that they are each fundamentally different from the others.

Carpe Victoria1/17/2016, 10:17:33 AM1 votes

No, because of wait times. Team Builder can take a long time. There would be no quick mode then for casual players. And normal draft can't replace the dominant quick mode because many people are intimidated by it being too tryhard and less casual.

Aeró1/17/2016, 4:50:44 PM1 votes

That's dumb, I ain't try a wait 30 minutes to find a game, blind mode is convenient and quick. It doesn't needa be changed.

TheGrandSummoner1/17/2016, 6:01:35 PM1 votes

Teambuilder was in its own "League". Draft and Blind pick will never replace it in any way.

La Barbotte1/17/2016, 6:27:14 PM1 votes

cause some people dont want to wait half an hour for a god damn game
