I'm gonna describe each role. Gimme feedback on how I do.
Top: It's SUPPOSED to be an island. It's SUPPOSED to be the melee pvp battleground. It's SUPPOSED to be mechanics vs. mechanics. At least, that's what you'd expect if you ask the players, and it's not, and that's the frustrating part. Sometimes it's Vayne/Quinn/Kennen. Sometimes you get camped. ALL the time top lane is incredibly snowbally. The disconnect between the fantasy of top lane and the reality of top lane makes top lane a huge tilter depending on who you are. When it comes to top lane, it's probably where you'll find the most variance in player performance because falling behind up there leaves you to the sharks. Like, I can't emphasize that enough. It's so close quarters up there that if you're one or two deaths down, you STILL gotta be right next to the dude abusing you just to cs, and you KNOW he wants in your ass as soon as he grabs it again...for which he's already got the baby powder readied on his palms. Talk about nerve racking.
Adc: Like...let's just admit it here and say that marksman players tend to be assholes more so than other players. Now let's ALSO admit that the logistics of playing marksman is pretty much what fuels the former statement. All a marksman wants is for his team to help get them to a fucking turret. Just group up, provide cover while he's throwing/shooting stuff, and help him get to some turrets. Their team is going to see this plea, think it over, and split top, farm the jungle, and go for a risky pick in the enemy jg for a good 10 minutes while making sure to ONLY die to scaling champions...including that enemy marksman yours trashed in lane. Not being able to really grab the reigns and control your fate UNLESS you have self peel + high damage makes marksman incredibly rage inducing, and since supports are usually in close proximity of them, that's probably where the "marksmen abuse me 24/7" threads come from. Yeah, marksmen can be a pain, but it's not like it comes from nowhere. I'd honestly say as a support main that marksmen have the LEAST control over the outcome of their game unless you're playing something incredibly stompy incredibly well.
JG: Lowest skill floor and highest skill cap, easy. You don't need to last hit. You don't need to fight a dedicated laning opponent. You hardly need to do a damn thing besides not die, if we're being honest. However, the room for improvement and higher quality play in the jg is insanely vast in comparison to the other roles, and mastering those things has an impact so obvious that it can outright dwarf the weaker jungler in the eyes of everyone else playing. The fact that you could take an early dragon, or your could provide lanes with added kill pressure, or you could rob the enemy jungler of exp and gold, all those things add up and make your impact on the game that much more noticeable, and to boot you could not do those things, or you could do multiples of those things. You're the guy that can make a losing lane into the carry your team needed to win the game. You're the guy that can make an unstoppable wrecking ball out of your Gangplank or Tristana. The difficulty of the jg role comes to a head when both junglers are actively fighting for these types of meta objectives, which includes a good deal of mind games, timing, and champion-specific mechanics.
Support: Second lowest skill floor role, but people underestimate the role because of it. The role isn't about cs'ing, and because of that support as a role is devalued. However, good supports tend to be the guys with their eyes on the macro and meta play in each game BECAUSE they don't need to cs. Things like "Hey, that's a Soraka. Buy early Executioner's so I can have Exhaust and we can kill them level 6 - 8", or "Guys, that team has 2 assassins. Assassins suck at team fights. GROUP ALREADY". So on and so forth. It's not shit supports HAVE to know, but it's better when they do, similar to junglers. Supports also have different objectives in fights than everyone else. While everyone is more focused on killing enemies, supports vary from trying to kill and trying to save. It takes a different kind of view on the game and a different set of priorities during fights to juggle a different set of objectives from everyone else. Whether that's harder or easier to accomplish, once again, varies, but it's different, and not everyone's cut out for it, just like how everyone's not cut out to be a strong jungler due to the insane meta play there, or top lane due to the incredibly snowbally nature of the lane.
Mid: Probably the lane with the greenest grass. You have access to roam to other lanes and gank like a jungler. You have access to mid laners with shields and peel to protect others like a support. You have access to Galio so you can tank like a top laner. You have access to AD champs like Yasuo and GP so you can push DPS (kinda) like a marksman. Hell, most mid laners are ranged so you if your lane's going bad you can actually fall back and farm from a distance, unlike top laners who have to damn near kiss the enemy top laner while slashing/clawing/punching/kicking/stabbing minions. Sorry, mids, but you guys got the best prospects out of every lane with the most flexibility and a great position on the map, so you're the only lane that doesn't get a sentimental paragraph.
Short version:
Top: Snowbally as hell. Hard to stop a feeding frenzy.
JG: Easiest role to just exist in. Hardest role to truly master.
ADC: Frustrating since you gotta rely on people that don't care about you so you can do your job, which is take turrets.
Support: Generally undervalued.
Mid: If the grass is greener on the other side, and someone went to check it out, he'd end up in the mid lane. Probably why it's the most contested role in solo queue.
Just did this on a whim. Lemme know how I did. Agree? Disagree?
who shits on ranged carries like
(
is more 50/50 tbh) and gets completely destroyed by a lot of melee top laners like
