A QoL change for Janna that's been suggested before, and a question for Riot: "Why not?"

darkdill··33 votes·2,320 views

People have seen this one before:

Add an indicator for Janna's Howling Gale (Q) that tells Janna and her teammates which direction it is going in.

Though pro players just use pings or otherwise just know based on teamwork, not everyone is as good as SSW or SHR.

I'm sure Riot likes this idea, but so far there's no signs of implementing it. This leads me to believe that they have some reason that simply says "No, we cannot do this."

I'd like to ask what that reason is. This change would clearly improve Janna's coordination with her teammates, and would allow the pros to not have to ping-spam during plays. So why wouldn't Riot do this?

The cost of implementing an indicator for her Q isn't worth the minor difference it might make in a fight.

Generally, the only thing that matters with her Q is if it lands or not. It's Janna's job to land her skillshot. An indicator shifts the pressure off of the Janna player and makes it her team's job to ensure the Q lands. In the few cases where I want my team to know where the tornado is going, I just do two on my way pings. After that, I realize it was totally irrelevant information.

Think about it this way: In an already noisy teamfight, is another visual indicator for her Q's path worth it? The information isn't always valuable, so there's no reason for it to be communicated to your team mates every time.

I agree completely. Try it on the PBE and see if it's too noisy for Janna players, it might not be, but something like that would be way too noisy if it was shown to the whole team.

And if it isn't shown to the whole team... well the Janna player should have a pretty good idea where her Q is going.

Ehh, it wouldn't necessarily clutter a team-fight. They could implement it as just a small chevron at the tornado's base pointing towards its direction of travel. I do agree with you that my team doesn't really need to know where my tornado's going, especially since most tornados are clutch double-taps.

People said the same thing about timer bars over wards/shrooms/etc. Then Riot implemented it and people praised the QoL change.

how about make janna's abilities respond to my key presses because i press Q three times until it finally starts whirling. God bless coding.

Perhaps you should start looking for a new keyboard then?

This sounds liek a personal problem :P

It checks for mana twice. Its mana cost is 90 at rank 1 iirc, so if you have 100 mana, the first press checks whether there's enough mana (yes), removes the necessary mana, and plants a tornado. The second press checks whether you have enough mana (in this case, you don't) and then your tornado won't go off, even if you've already paid for it.

make the indicator look like the ones on ori's/syndra's balls!

Janna is already one of the better supports. No. Buff Taric instead.

Lol this wouldn't be a buff, just a visual indicator. P.S. #gutthefreelofish #nerffizz2k14 #iwantsushi

A, as janna you always know where its going, because its where you aimed it ( you might know how far it goes when you trigger it but that is different) B, it always goes in the directions janna faces when she casts it, this is how teamates, and more importantly enemies know where its going.

A: Your allies don't know where you aim it. That's the point of this idea.

B: You can easily make the tornado go the opposite direction you're moving since it can be cast while moving (meaning you don't face its direction), and it's simple to trick the enemy of its direction in other instances, especially when you're constantly moving around.

i dont really find it neccesary to add this to janna. as someone already said before, all janna has to do is land her skillshot, it would be irrelevant and noisy information if they add this.

I think it should draw a faint line or moving arrow across the vector when cast.

  1. Lets team know it has been cast since the starting animation is small.

  2. Shows path on cast so you don't chase someone out of its path.

As a Janna main, I don't see the point in having an indicator. When I'm using my Q, I don't let it charge up so my teammates will see what direction it will be going the same time I see it. On the other hand, a small little pointer would be nice. I don't believe that it would clutter a team-fight at all.

I just wish Riot would make her Q a bit harder to see. XD It would be so troll

Indicator or pointer would be fine. Just SOMETHING to tell your teammate which way it's going.
