A Question about MMR and how it chooses my opponents and teammates.

I know that 3rd party sites that show estimates of MMR are not quite reliable.

That said, I had a recent match were we got stomped so badly it was literally over at 10 minutes.

Every lane was so out classed, out skilled, it wasn't fun, it wasn't fair, it was such a bad game. We all tried, but we just couldn't h ave won that game.

It was as though we were facing plat while being bronze.

it was the kind of stomps you do when you load up a game of beginner bots.

I looked up the MMR of myself, and each of my team mates, and then compared to that of our opponents.

All of my team scored in the mid 900s. Everyone on the enemy team scored over 1200. and had mastery level in all the champs they were playing.

it was just a random solo ranked game.

how does this happen? is it like this in other divisions?

It is like this everywhere else. I often use LoL Nexus during the load to look up ranks, because it shows previous and current season, and how many games someone has on the champ they are playing. This helps me guesstimate as a jungler which lane will likely need my help. I'm in low gold currently, most of my team mates are gold 4-5s who were silver last year, and most of my opponents tend to be gold 3+ and were all mid plat the previous season. Not sure why it feels so weighted, but its been a rather common occurence.

I find myself doing this, and realllllllly hating it.

i go into games saying "well this game is lost." when I see 2 of the 3 lanes are far outskilled, and way under experienced.

I'd rather wait 5 times as long to find a game than sit through 20 minutes of bullshit.

I don't write off a lane, I've seen Diamond 3s get creamed by plat 5s, and seen a master tier jungler on an all gold team, lose to my all gold team. I merely use it as a means to temper expectations and get ready for a potential problem in advance. League of legends is all about what you do with all the information you can get your hands on. For instance, a plat 3 support main first timing poppy top might win lane, but certainly isn't going to be playing at the same level in a random lane. Its not as much about the elo as it is about their level of experience. All in all the poppy might have greater mechanical skill, but doesn't know the limits of the champion or the nuances of top lane as well as a main role.

The Draven with 400 games on draven though, that is the lane I want to shut down as best I can, and will start building armor earlier.
