Champions which deliver on their fantasy well

The Sword Saint··7 votes·1,339 views

When you play some champions, you really feel like you are that badass 'x'. With others, not so much.

Fiora is one. You really feel like a fencer. Riot's goal when reworking her was to bring out this fantasy, and they succeeded. Even if they nerf her into oblivion, it won't change that she 'feels' like a real fencer and you feel like a skilled sword master when you use her.

Which champions do the rest of you personally feel really deliver when it comes fantasy? Why did you choose them? Is it more a game mechanic thing like fiora, or is it more an art thing?

Sion So far, Sion stands out as Riot's greatest masterpiece in my book.

"Cooooooowaaaaaaaaaards!!!" - Sion running away from a gank

But yeah, he's pretty well executed.

Even that, kind of captures some of the old appeal of cheesy Sion.

Riven "In Noxus, any citizen may rise to power regardless of race, gender, or social standing - strength is all that matters. It was with committed faith in this ideal that Riven strove to greatness. She showed early potential as a soldier, forcing herself to master the weight of a long sword when she was barely its height. She was ruthless and efficient as a warrior, but her true strength lay in her conviction. She entered battles without any trace of doubt in her mind: no ethical pause, no fear of death."

Her all or nothing aggressive play style fits this perfectly.

Shaco He's a dick, there is nothing funnier than watching a good Shaco, and very few things scarier than playing against one.

Careful, though I agree with you on riven you are going to draw the downvote brigades fire upon you for mentioning her in a positive light.

As for shaco, yeah he nails the annoying asshole clown perfectly.

I think it's probably just that this thread is small enough to go unnoticed and the topic is too generic feel good to draw the attention of trolls.

A good Shaco prevents most of those from happening, and has little to fear from the others.

Shyvana wants to farm? Fuck you, have box.

Nasus wants to stack? Fuck you, have box.

Fizz wants to dive my mid laner? Fuck you, have box.

Malphite. Because I feel like a huge goddamn rock who fucks everyone's shit up and doesn't give a crap about their puny abilities.

That's a good example, when I ult into a pile of enemies and ruin their day I do feel an aweful lot like a meteor smashing into earth. Maybe it's the sound effect.

Lissandra I love her concept all around. Her abilities look fantastic. Her ult is probably one of the cooler (no pun intended) ults in the game. It's extremely fun to try and make plays with her even if they don't always work out. She really feels like a powerful ice witch, they hit the mark on this one.

Edit: I can't believe I forgot her voice actress. She delivered on Lissandra.

Hell yeah to the homegirl!!! Lissandra

I feel like having good sound effects and voice overs probably goes a long way. Whenever I hear her champ select quote, "I will bury the world in ice." i get really pumped up to freeze some dudes.

Plus her ult quotes are some of the most satisfying in the game. When some assassin wants to dive on your team and you hear Lissandra yell "Freeze!" in her amazing voice as she ensures they fail and suffer an icy death, it's one of the best feelings in the game. Her CC gives her a real "I decide who gets to do what" feeling of controlling the enemy and that feels 100% Lissandra.

Sona only performs her fantasy with her DJ Skin, because you aren't playing songs otherwise and that makes me sad :(

Veigar to me has a very fulfilling fantasy. Early on he's a joke, he can get forced out of lane and can even die to the right people. But as the game goes on he slowly becomes stronger and stronger, with each Q stack he slowly accumulates power. Eventually he comes out and throws a giant mass of negative energy at his opponent and completely obliterates them. As the game goes on he stops being the little joke and eventually becomes the nightmarishly powerful mage that can and will destroy his enemies with extreme prejudice.

Velkoz is weird in that his fantasy is more... scientific, but he just kinda melts everything. Despite that, the power of his ultimate, and the feeling of doing it right and getting a Triple to a Pentakill absolutely cannot be denied.

Viktor fulfills his fantasy of learning his opponents strengths and weaknesses and adapting against them as time goes on. He's still somewhat strong early but I (unlike many others) actually enjoy scaling with him rather than just being stupid powerful throughout all stages of the game. I played him before his rework and I really liked how he felt at the end of the game, and though I haven't played him recently, I'm glad they changed his augments so they once again become more powerful later on instead of being a 'rush to get all the things' purchase.

Veigar does seem to reach 'final boss' levels of ridiculous damage, so that skin they gave him fit very well. It would be nice if when he damaged people an oversize -xxxx damage number in retro style floated up ala final fantasy though.

Jinx The Loose Cannon. Everything she does screams Jinx, Chaos, and Anarchy. Too many epic plays to be made (I sniped top lane from bot, it was exhilarating.) and she delivers on the fantasy well. Her passive especially drives it home: GOTTA GO CRAZY AND DO MOAR! Vi Who doesn't love a good punch? Soraka Basically the ultimate healer. Her heals can be very impactful, and frequently sacrifice yourself to save others (much to the annoyance of the enemy team.) MissFortune Guns blazing. It's very satisfying to get a good ult off and cripple the enemy team with a hail fire of bullets. Early game, bouncing bullets is pretty fun too (bonus points: It really hurts. Don't ever want to take an enhanced double up shot.)

The Sword Saint1 votes

Those are some good choices. I remember a rioter saying that they specifically went out of their way to make everything in Vi's kit a punch, and the result definitely gets the feel of punching across.

Gunnlaug2 votes

Vayne, she feels like a trained and scary hunter when you get the mechanics down, Nautilus, a massive juggernaut that makes the enemy team quiver in fear of his sheer size, Braum, a super friendly protector, there's more but those are my top 3

Talon: You got ninja sama Zed over there, but I got ass kicking ass-creed Talon here, his spell names are even nice too and playing him makes me feel like the real assassin.

Azir: I'm the king, and the king says you can't farm! I feel like a real king/god when I play Azir right and get fed, join me, or fall beneath me!

Gnar: You truly feel like a monster when you do turn in to one when playing Gnar, RAWR!

Lol, ass-creed talon. Azir does make it feel like you're facing an army on the march too.

Gnar(especially mega) Sion Braum Alistar Bard just feel like they should when you play them like giant juggernauts that are gonna either throw you around or keep you from getting near who they dont want you to get near(except bard he just feels so fun)

I'm kind of surprised by how civil and positive the responses have all been here. I know it's only a small thread with little attention so far, but I was kind of expecting tons of people to show up and be like "champion fantasy is a dumb buzzword lel, riot champs are all dota 2 knockoffs, I hate this game but I still go to the forums"

TurquoiseYoshi1 votes

Olaf I feel just like someone who doesn't give a damn about death. I run in, I throw things, hit things, and run at things really fast, and I pick up a Quadra Kill even though I fed in lane.

well the old Mordekaiser used to have an identity as a brawler that sustains a fight through the pain of others, but clearly that died. Shaco the better you are at annoying people and being an asshole with a champ, the more fun it is to play shaco especially if you're good
