So I heard something about a Mage replacing the ADC in the Bot Lane...

Riot, if this is true, and if one of the Mages in the Update is going to become a Non-Support, ADC Replacement in the Bot Lane, please remember what happened last time you tried that and how it worked.

(Rest in peace Mordekaiser you will be missedMordekaiser item 3070 )

If this is to happen, you should be aware that you could COMPLETELY destroy a champion and its player base. I am not sure if this will actually happen, but I think that if this were to happen, please make sure that they are still playable Mid. I'm really excited about these updates but another horrible experiment gone wrong like Mordekaiser would just ruin it all.

Then again, I could be wrong and there are no ADC Mages, or maybe there are, but are a fantastic success and make it a strong change to the meta of Bot Lane. If I am right, and they go forward with this experiment and screw up, we're going to have another broken husk of a champion, which will then enrage the community.

Edit: Nobody has been reworked as a Bot Lane Mage. I hope that despite what I have said in this post Riot will still maybe release a Bot Lane Mage as a new champion in the future.

ADC or APC?

AP items but played her like an adc

I think it was me who raised the idea of having a dps mage marksman, although I'm sure others have had the same idea. It wasn't really directed for someone like Mord, but more of a ranged marksman that dealt dps ap dmg

I thought it was an interesting concept to at least entertain, I have no idea how it would interact with the game though

Azir might work

I know a friend who plays Azir in the botlane from time to time. He works remarkably well with Alistar Shen Morgana

Azir is as close as they have come, although his soldiers count as spells and not traditional autos as you see with jinx or caitlyn

Azir Cassiopeia Heimerdinger Karthus Viktor are ones me and a few friends have had some really high success with running bot lane when we have something like zed mid, kha jg and fiora top. Heimerdinger x Illaoi best bot lane ever (except against cait, fck her range is obscene lol)

Maybe Ziggs? It sounds like they're giving him "tower destruction" mechanics. He still won't do consistent dmg, but he'll have the ability to take towers well.

If they were actually planning on making the ap item update help mages it might have been possible to run a team without an ADC (maybe Cass mid since she does consistent dmg and Ziggs bot for the siege capabilities?).

But it sounds like they're planning on nerfing mage items even further without actually giving them items that will patch up the holes in their current itemization paths (armor that isn't tied to a strong active, a way to deal with tanks that isn't Liandry's, etc.). So the reign of the AD champs will continue.

I think the Armor Items should be addressed, but there are other items to address tanks like Void Staff and Abyssal Scepter. Still some % Magic Pen item could be very nice.

Those are for dealing with MR. Either to take the sting out of attacking people who've built it or making people who haven't take even more dmg. It's not an item to address health stacking tanks.

Mages' only equivalent to bork is Liandry's, which does a terrible job of shredding tanks and doesn't synergize well with most mages. I don't mind the fact that it doesn't synergize well (bork isn't great on all ADCs), but the fact that it does %current health makes it pretty bad. But it's the only way mages can get access to any kind of %health dmg without playing Brand or Malz...

BotRK does Current Health Damage. It's the active that does %Max Health. Liandry's is pretty good on many different mages, but maybe some active on something like Void Staff would be nice, where something like BotRK active occurs. I do think BotRK despite its nerfs is still better than Liandry's at killing tanks.

Riot did say they wanted to do that, but it just wouldnt work yet. The items arent there for a mage to be successful as a bot laner. This is something they actually learned from Morde.

Let's assume here just for a moment that your team has a Graves top and a Kog'Maw mid. You don't NEED another ADC down in botlane. In fact, people in these comps should always be trying to counter the typical botlane the other side is likely to have. Whether it's with a Karma/Sona botlane that breathes sustain and poke or a Yasuo/Malphite wombo comp, whatever works and helps your team overall should be prioritized over 'bot lane needs an ADC'.

Toastersaot1 votes

That's what Riot is going to do, but luckily not with anyone in this Mid-Year update.

Ok. No mages in the bot lane for now. Still I think that a future champions will be good for this role.

The comparison with Mordekaiser doesn't make an atom of sense since the major problem was that he is a MELEE fighter who had to be able to survive and harass even double ranged lanes which led to the unfair advantage of passive exp.

When I made this post, I was worried that Riot would try and bandage a pre-existing Mage to bot lane, thereby deleting them from Mid Lane the same way Morde was. Luckily, this did not happen. Although there is that major difference of being a Melee Vs. Ranged, the Reworked Mage could have been given an unfair advantage like Mordekaiser.
