As a jungle main, here are all the changes I actually want to the jungle this preseason

Zenthon Prime·10/13/2016, 4:44:57 PM·63 votes·3,204 views

Gromp smite buff changed or buffed.

That's it.

The jungle itself is fine. Any issues at this point are with the champions. Please do not destroy the balance that took two full seasons to create. If you really want to help junglers you can start by altering competitive mainstays so they aren't so universally good (Nidalee, Rek'Sai, Lee, Elise and probably Gragas while you're at it). Junglers like Nocturne, Zac and Olaf are a breath of fresh air and I want to see more of this kind of variation. Give me a whole season where Nid, Elise, Rek'Sai and Lee aren't S tier. That's what I want, not a bunch of gimmicks I can't control.

Honestly the current state of smite-buffs is stale as hell.

You smite krugs or gromp for clear speed on your first run. You smite red to refill your health for a gank on your first 1-2 clears. After that for the rest of the game you only ever want to smite Raptors or Wolves for vision control and save the other one for dragon/barron control or pvp smites.

I don't blame them for wanting to change it up.

Riot: we never make mistake, you do. Any issues with the jungle is because players have found ways to abuse what we gave you, so instead instead of admitting that we fucked up and allowed for these abuse cases, we are just going to flip the meta on its ass to save face.

My issue isn't with the idea of the plants, it's that what the effects they've given them are too generic. Is there a vision plant? Yes. Use it. There's no reason NOT to use the health or vision plant when you see them regardless of your current situation because you don't want to risk your enemy using them against you.

They need to be more situational things like a plant that lets you apply an attack speed slow on your next three spell uses or something. Something like that could still be used against you but since it's a combat type of effect it would only be used when your team is nearby and could also fight for the plant. Or a plant that spawns right on a wall and when you hit it is launches a root from the other side that entangles any champion in that area for half a second and deals damage. Traps and niche tactical applications.

TLDR The current effects are too broad.

We're currently on our 3rd consecutive season of Lee not being S tier. Or A tier. Borderline B tier at best outside of pro play.

I'd like them to take there changes to the next level. Multiple maps of summoner's rift each with just a different jungle that is it. Still symmetrical but different creatures too. If they are trying to get rid of the same experience over and over this would certainly bring diversity. Better yet, make it so the walls in the jungle only start hidden by fog of war. A different fog of war that is revealed as you move around in it.

Please allow Maokai to jungle again riot =(

Plants IMO are riots way of throwing of literally throwing a monkey wrench into a engine. They we're even aiming to fix it, they just want to see how it burns.

Luxrath10/13/2016, 10:25:27 PM2 votes

Yes lets keep nerfing nidalee. We need more champs getting hit with the azir treatment haha.

Naagiinii10/14/2016, 3:55:02 PM2 votes

bump. The jungle is fine the way it is for right now. Its not the plants im more iffy about its taking away the smite bonuses. It really made you decide between- "Should i smite raptors for map control or wolves for warding? Or Red or blues for more sustain? I think smite choices really decided on outcomes of alot of plays in jungling.

I agree with the gromp buff and all of the above for fresh variation in viable jungle champion picks.

That said, Krugs can be smitted by split-push junglers as the buff is consumed upon striking turrets, and you deal a hefty chunk of true damage to them in the process. This is especially useful on a champion like Udyr who will be repeatedly proccing sheen against turrets, allowing him to take them down a bit faster than he normally would otherwise.

i do like more about the current state, where u smite specific monster, it will give u a specific buff for different use, rather than the upcoming revert the smite use, where it gives no difference of which monster u r going to smite. n i don't like the plant, i believe whenever u see a plant, u r going to kill it anyway becoz u dont want enemy to use it to benefit enemy, which means there is no decision making for killing the plant or not. the short video showing the vision plant is a bad design i think, as the video show, the plant grows in the blue side jg, so that red team is very hard to kill that vision plant, blue team almost dont need to risk anything to gain vision in the drag pit (no need to ward drag pit where u need someone to walk near the pit to ward it). i know riot wanna change sth to the game so that it brings out new stuff every season, in order to make ppl feel like playing a somewhat new type of game comparing to last year, but i m not a huge fan of RNG with all kind of random stuff all over the map n the game. i think league of legends requires some knowledge to play well, as u require laner to have many different knowledge (lane control, cs, champion matchup & counter, etc.), why would u wanna simplify the jungle? jungle role also require u to have different knowledge to play well as well, so why would u reduce the gap between skilled jg player with the new ones?

Too bad we will get rid of all smite buffs. We will get plants instead

Blue Moon Wolf10/13/2016, 9:51:39 PM1 votes

.... well, TECHNICALLY they are changing gromp >.>

But I don't think this was the context you we're hoping for.

RocketRelm10/13/2016, 9:33:33 PM1 votes

I'll be honest, I was kind of expecting one of those jokes where there's literally nothing in the OP.

Shacowned10/14/2016, 3:32:18 AM1 votes

TBH i agree a lot with you. Every game i can basically GUARANTEE that there will be one of the "S Tier" Jungles in the game., And its never me. I play Eve, Shaco, Noc, Even the rarely seen *at least in my elo" Kha'Zix even weird Jngs like Veigar and Nasus sometimes. But every game there bound to be a Lee or Elise Nidalee or Rek'Sai its become universal and ridiculous to go into every game thinking "Oh great what champ of 4-5 am i gonna fight". I mean, i love the jungle its my fave role but the way that a FEW champs have become so good in that role that every game is almost guaranteed to have them is a little stupid IMHO.

FantasySniper10/13/2016, 11:16:24 PM1 votes

I want a Firefly camp that hides in the brush next to buffs and acts like the current wolf spirit without even having to use smite.

The Murk Wolves smite buff would be replaced with an on-hit damage buff that makes actually makes starting blue area with attack speed junglers worth it.

Gromp really needs a buff anyways, so it shouldn't be crowded out by the wolf buff.

Dengeden10/14/2016, 5:34:55 AM1 votes

Alright then, huge number nerfs to Elise, Rek, Nid, Lee and nothing but tanky rightclick/AoE junglers. You should work for the balance team.

Feed Daddy10/14/2016, 6:01:10 AM1 votes

Except nocturne was the go to jungle for competitive all season 2 and 3 lol
