I don't think Devourer belongs in this game

Like...jungling is about making an advantage on the map. Devourer is about farming up stacks and then drastically spiking your champ out of nowhere.

If they can't think of a real fourth augment for jg items...they could just not have four augments. I don't necessarily think the way Devourer impacts the game when it's successful is...all that...well implemented...

Let's just cut out diversity why don't we?? Dumb response put more thought into it with maybe some more thoughtful changes.

Devourer is literally Riot's excuse for an attack speed jungle item.

It's broken and toxic as fuck, and it has been since release. But yeah, let's nerf Swain because of DFT.

What the fuck are you talking about whatever you said is nonsense.

I'm not going to listen to a Renekton main tell me about nonsense.

It's a tempo item.

There's nothing wrong with said item, or said strategy.

Yes there is.

It makes balancing OnHit items nearly impossible because every time you make one you have to ask yourself 'would this item be broken as fuck if it did 50% more damage?'

Replace the stacking nonsense with Bloodrazor's old %HP OnHit passive. Maybe add in another item that builds out of a Jungle item, Zeal, and a Longsword.

You know all the other jungler items break other champions just as hard? Only much earlier and at a more important time than devourer . . . sooooo

Not talking about breaking champions.

Talking about breaking itemization.

OnHit items need to be gimped because Devourer exists. If they weren't, then Devourer would be silly when paired up with them. OnHit items are balanced around being unable to crit, but Devourer effectively gives all OnHit items 50% crit chance.

Imagine if there was no Crit stat. All AD, attack speed, and armor pen values would be balanced around no crit. Then all of a sudden a new item is added to the Jungle that gives 50% crit chance as a unique passive. It would absolutely break the game. The only reason why Devourer doesn't do the same is because of how limited OnHit itemization is. And OnHit itemization can't really get more robust without Devourer breaking it.

See: Rageblade.

Well no shit.

And they can't be buffed, either, because Devourer exists.

What we need is a complete rework of OnHit itemization from the ground up. I think Wit's and Titanic Hydra have the right general idea. OnHit items should be something for beefy auto-attackers, but the items need to synergize with each other to be successful.

They can't be buffed because any auto based attack champion will exploit them.

They were broken long before devourer lol.

item 3091 Warwick Shaco <-- these two abused wits end season 1 and invalidated mages because they would make them oom almost instantly via stealing 40+ mana per auto attack. Warwick could drain over half your mana bar with just his ult. Shaco would make you oom with his clone while he chased you down making you all but useless. Slowed + losing 80 mana per second while he spams laugh at you. Adcs couldn't do anything because their mana pool was only like . . . 250/300 at best, and were usually down to 130 mana already as is. So, Shaco would make them oom within a second to two seconds.

Devourer is actually a really good tempo item because if you can't out gank the opposing jungler, and you can't out trade the opposing jungler, or you can't out tank the opposing jungler, you can make use of devourer to spike around the 20 minute mark while getting objectives to reswing the game in your favor.

the funny part is the item is actually countered in itself as well. The enemy team can just straight up fuck your jungle so devourer can back fire and turn into a lose faster item just like mejais used to be able to do.

If you want to know a current problem item that's horrendously broken, it'ss this

item 1402 This made AP rengar viable again. Yes. Rengar can now 100-0 you again building nothing but ap. Thanks to Runic Echos. You thought Ap Rengar that destroyed you with W + lichbane procs was op? You thought 100-0 QQtiamatE Rengar was op?

How about the current Runic Echo's Rengar that can take 3/4s your life with E before even going in since runic procs off of Rengars entire kit? Are you fond of Rengars ability to deal around 1200 damage with just E? Well, guess what. It can now. Did I mention he now zips around with 900 ms with ult + runic echos + boots of swiftness? Yeah. IT's fun. Good times. Did I mention he now can't really be gang banged either, cause, ya know, his W does 500ish damage aoe, and due to the 40% cdr he basically spams runic procs + aoe 500+ damage Ws that heal him for half his life.

Fun times. :)

But yeah, Devourer is the real problem child here. Not the runic echos that is so good that any champ in the game can buy it and become blatantly over powered and even jungle perfectly fine after getting it.

Its gets more stacks from getting Rift Herald, Dragon, and Scuttlers. Which is good map advantage if you think about it. It kinda encourages you to go after the BIG objectives like Dragon, Rift Herald, and Baron since it gives 5 stacks on kill. While the Rift Scuttler grants 2 stacks on kill. You can still get stacks even from kills/assists from ganking lanes. So if you play it right you can still get map presence/dominance while still getting the stacks.
