Riot's reasoning for not making a sandbox mode:

Shroom Junkie··5 votes·767 views

"We don't want dedicated players to be better than people who play once a week because it would be unfair."

Basically it. They've basically ignored the idea of Elo and thought of it like "well a good player would be with bronzies because of sandbox" rather than the way they should think, which is "well a good player would climb out of bronze because of his training in sandbox."

Like wtf rito? You want us to suck?

Actually their reason was that they wanted players to get better in games and not in a time capsule.

Basically what I said. Maybe we want to get better in a time capsule? Who gives a fuck! Why should we be at the same level as a noob because we can't actually practice anything specific? Sure, you can practice farming. But what about anything else? What about interactions with different champions? Just the other day I was testing to see if Hecarim could walk through Jarvan's ult since its considered minions and Hecarim's passive lets him walk through them. I had to get a friend willing to try and online, then had to wait for him to level up to 6, just to test that one thing. Then I wanted to test and see if it worked with Ghost or Phantom Dancer but I couldn't. Why? Because neither of us wanted to wait 'till level 6 again, or the money for a Phantom Dancer

But lets say we get a sandbox mode. Now I can do that with only myself, and not have to wait a minute except for the loading screen.

I want a time capsule. Millions of other people want a damn time capsule but we don't get it because Riot doesn't want us to have it. Or heck, maybe they just don't want to spend money on something that might not get them any money, or whatever. I have no idea but whatever it is, its stupid. Tons of other mobas have it, why can't League?

I agree with it that riot should make a sandbox. Dont under stand them at all. Lets bet if they release a sandbox you have to buy it with rp or tons of IP ;D Kappa

If you want to practice one specific think lets say flashing walls. You want people to figure it out during a game and because you cant practice out side of a game you die. And you have to die over and over again coz you have no other way to practice it. And making a custom game to practice it you have to wait 5 min between every time you use it.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with it. I'm just saying what their actually reason was.

I thought the purpose of the sandbox wasn't to practice, but to muck about with the engine? If you want to train, there are other alternatives.

like what ? do to a custom came and wait 5 min every time you flash if you want to practice flashing

When I typically think of a sandbox mode, there are no restrictions or rules... like Halo Forge mode or Creator Mode in Minecraft or things like that.

Riot doesn't want us to go to a firing range, they want us to go to war and learn from that. Because in a firing range you can miss all you want but at war you need to make things count. You need to walk out of war with scars (knowledge) and you can't exactly do that at a firing range.

And what happens when you go into war with no training? You're generally put at the front line to be cannon fodder and die quickly.

You know what happens when you go to war without extensive training?

You're going to die in an instant that's what rofl.

You're going to die with or without training. Because terrorists like to ambush and you'll never see it coming.

It's understandable. I play maybe 3 games a night, maybe, and they want to make sure I still have a fair advantage against others who play 15 games a night. I like it

Not really. If you're worse than those people that play 15 games a day and really try hard to rise up in elo, then they wouldn't be in the same rank as you, nor the same MMR and you would be pit against and with players that play as much as you, rather than ones that are dedicated to the game and want to get better.

Rank right now is already set up so if you play more then you most likely will be ranked higher than others of your real skill level. People who play 1k games but went from p3-d5 are they truly diamond or did they just play enough games? With sandbox they can spend 1k game time practicing a nitch group of champs, master them outside of 5s, then go to rank where people who can only play 2 games a night are mastering a champ on the fly.

Well, of course they'd really be Diamond material, else they'd not be in Diamond. But I get what you're saying, like, someone who's P3 and has the skill of a Diamond just isn't in Diamond because he can't play a lot. But, it would basically just be the same scenario but rather than taking a few weeks/months to get to Diamond, would take maybe a year or more. That's just climbing for you and if you don't play enough, you just don't climb as fast as someone who does play a ton. But aside from that its essentially the same idea.

As for mastering a champ in-game or out of, you can't really master it in sandbox. You can get little bits and pieces you didn't know before, try to gauge and remember your champ's damage, etc. but you can't master it while only playing against bots. Sandbox mode would probably be more for getting better at small mechanics for all champs, like flashing over hard walls, farming, etc. with the occasional champion-specific thing like me trying to test out Hecarim walking through Jarvan's ult(if you saw that post).

Plus, if you're like me and don't play a lot because you have restrictions - whether self-set or by parents or on-call work that you can't be sure of the shecdule - then you'll want to learn how to play, but in a normal game you can't just leave whenever without being punished as well as punishing your teammates for your mistake. But with a sandbox you'd be able to learn and still be able to get out of a game if you needed to, so when you finally get time you can play a ranked and be better than if sandbox wasn't there.
