Been cheesing 
lately as someone who mainly plays mages and its been working out. He has the damage for late game. You farm up early and get rolling mid game, and he can carry teamfights with his E and slows.
I kinda prefer the mountain idea more than the ladder. On a ladder, it's a straight line up and you'll never get above the person directly above you.
