Why did darius suddenly become one of the most played top laners in ranked?

Could it be that since most of the previous top picks got nerfed ? ( poppy, ekko, naut, graves) And that he was untouched since season 5? But even then he has a 49% winrate and hasn't been seen in pro play since worlds s5.

When Darius gets ahead he absolutely crushes people. I would say that is why a lot of people would play him. It's fun dunking on people.

He's a very fun and satisfying champion to play in all honesty. Though he tends to make normally nice and sane people become d-bags. xD

From what I can see l, it appears that darius is used as a strong counter pick to meta too laners thus becoming meta and results in a higher play rate despite low winrate while also being a champ that has considerable potential to dominate games when played in the right hands. And maybe people just like him purely for lane dominance.

he is really strong and he does need a new passive change, the nerfed Draven for the same passive he can do up to 600 true damage with his ult that he gets in his spell rotation and an auto, i hope he doesnt get big because he is a big counter to most if not all melee top laners

Because the true dunk gives zero fucks about your sunfire/iceborn armor, and he can pretty much hit you once and shred a third of it once he gets cleaver, anyway.

because your including every elo from wood to astronaut. every bronze->silver and even gold game has darius. and garen too also nasus.

people tend to play champions that are hard to fuck up with in low elo. nasus garen and darius. all of them are tanky and do a lot of damage. good pattern there. jack of all trades champion and masters of none. also known as juggernauts.
