No idea why anyone is downvoting you. Basically anyone who's played League for years will tell you: Get used to certain (your main) champions being gutted to the point that they will not be viable again until everything else in the game has been repeatedly nerfed for 2+ years. For example Diana is finally not an instant loss if you pick her, her gutting was Dec 2012. The only notable changes to her in modern times was a bug fix on her ult (the bug still occurs), a ninja nerf on her ult (eventually admitted but never documented), and her itemization being nerfed. But when everything else has been nerfed 6 times over since she was destroyed, she's suddenly not a troll pick anymore.

Then some troll will come out from under his bridge and call you an idiot claiming that X champion was viable all along and that you're just a sheep, and that the endless nerfs to everything else, the changes in items, runes, masteries, etc had nothing to do with it. This cycle of stupidity occurs like clockwork.

People like to down vote for no reason, which is stupid. It hurts every time i see an Elise thread gets buried.

Well, its kinda short I mean, I upvoted it but... Reasons?

A lot of people are under the impression if there champion stops being top tier from a nerf it means they are complete garbage now. Morons..

Rinky Dinky4 votes

The only notable changes to her in modern times was a bug fix on her ult

V5.3:

Moonsilver Blade Now displays number of stacks and remaining duration. Pale Cascade's spheres now rotate at roughly double the speed.

V4.21:

Casting Lunar Rush on targets that have the Moonlight debuff will reset Lunar Rush's cooldown, even if Diana is interrupted out of her dash.

V4.18:

Now briefly reveals enemies hit.

V4.9:

Fixed a bug where Diana's recall animation would occasionally cancel.

V4.5:

~~ Base armor increased to 20 from 16.~~

V4.4:

Moonsilver Blade AP ratio increased to (+80% AP) from (+60% AP).

Then some troll will come out from under his bridge and call you an idiot claiming that X champion was viable all along and that you're just a sheep, and that the endless nerfs to everything else, the changes in items, runes, masteries, etc had nothing to do with it

No one would disagree that Diana was awful for a long time, but your spreading misinformation, like sheep usually do.

Highlighted above are buffs that occured near the end of season 4, and the beginning of season 5. All 3 of those buffs combined brought diana back into viability.

Now, crossing out the changes that were actually irrelvant 90% of the time, there are 4 high impact changes/buffs to her kit.

Acting like these buffs don't exist simply to push your agenda is sloppy tbh.

Diana has been viable ever sense the bug fix on her ult, and ceased being outclassed once the indisputably overtuned assassin champions were nerfed.

Base armor is never irrelevant to a jungler. Other than that, good points.

Neo Cyrus7 votes

I know about all the changes.

5.3 - Not a buff, especially in the jungle where it can easily be detrimental. 4.21 - That's the bug fix I was referencing which seems to be spouted out as if it was a buff. It still sometimes fails. 4.18 - So what? 4.9 - Rare, so rare I never encountered it in hundreds of games during that time. 4.5 - Not a buff, (nearly) all characters were given an armor increase that patch to compensate for rune nerfs. 4.4 - Overall Diana was nerfed, that was the patch Lich Bane dropped to 0.50. The longer a fight goes the more Lich Bane procs are lost compared to number of passive procs. A minimum for an instant fight would have been 2 procs of LB and 1 passive, still a nerf.

Just in season 3 alone I had nearly 300 ranked games on Diana. I don't want to hear from some bronze level support who knows nothing about the character about some imaginary buffs and how I'm a sheep. You're spreading bullshit like saying patch 4.4 was a buff when it was a major nerf. You're the one spreading misinformation. Not to mention I was talking about what was recent in my memory, and specifically said so. "Modern times". 4.4, the nerf patch you like to pretend was a buff, goes back over a year.

Out of your entire list the only things that could be classified as buffs were bug fixes... and sometimes those bugs still occur. Next.

How dare you try to sweet talk us with your facts, clearly you're pushing an agenda like that guy says! ROFL

Gaston du Coteau4 votes

How can they be good points if they're blatantly false? Pretending those patches were buffs, especially 4.5 and 4.4, which were either nothing (cancels out other nerfs) or overall nerfs, is hilarious.

I think that Elise is a perfect example of a TOP TIER champion being gutted to the level of utter garbage and that's sad considering how fun she is to play with and against.

Personally I never had any problem playing against her even when she was considered top tier because she had a clear strengths and weaknesses in her kit.

While she had a strong early game presence, her mid to late game was really really weak. At this moment she's not even relevant early game comparing to other champions. LeeSin RekSai JarvanIV Nidalee are still stronger early game than Elise while having MUCH better late game. All of them can easily gank at lvl 3 without any problems, some of them can effectively gank even at lvl 2 (Nidalee JarvanIV ) for example.

As an Elise fan, I can suggest some changes that may help her be more viable in the current jungle:

  1. Why is Nidalee able to switch forms much faster than Elise while being better at literally everything?
  • Reduce the CD of spider form or make it resets every single time Elise hits the Cocoon.
  1. Why don't you give her true personality? Is she a tank? - NO! Does she fits a mage role? -NO! Is she an assassin? - NO

    • Give her bonus ARMOR and MR in spider form and leave her poor AP ratios as they are so we can build her full tank and be relevant.

    (OR)

    • Increase her AP ratios so we can be relevant in late game if we build her AP. Considering that her early game is not that good atm, this change could help her a lot.

The 2nd suggestion is great in my opinion. Every time I had played Elise, it just doesn't seem a full AP build or a full tank build had fared better than an another popular champion Gragas (maybe this dude) built full AP or tank.

Also, combining AP and tank items don't work out ever on Elise. You will be dealing low AP damage while not being able to tank as much.

WolfChases1 votes

^ Exactly, even tho I do not agree with you on 1 thing. Gragas is not a champion, he's a monster. :D

I agree with this, it just feels like Elise doesn't do enough damage, given her anti-tank potential. (Which could be REALLY good in this meta, which may be another reason Riot is playing this carefully). She should be focused towards building full AP like Nid/Diana/Fiddle and still be able to duel those tank junglers after mid game is over. However, one thing I'm wondering: What would happen if Rappel could jump to allied minions/wards? It'd make her chances of survival way better, and also give her a nice little ms boost when coming back from base. But, really, I think it should be one of the following:

  1. Make her W slow: Doesn't have to be too big of a slow, but it would be great to have another good liandry's proc + a slightly better chance of escaping from opponents.
  2. Make her E work on allied minions/wards: Better escape potential from a bad fight, make leaving base quicker.
  3. Increase her overall survivability in a teamfight (Scaling MR, Suggestion #2) I don't play Elise much, but this is my two cents.

I love the idea of maximizing her potential as an anti-tank Champion, which will make her a viable pick, her Neurotoxin is a good example of making her an anti-tank.

Increasing her mobility is somewhat arguable~ i say just lower down the CD of her rappel or like what you mentioned, let her rappel to any unit

I just want riot to give elise an actual identity~ is she either a Tank, Mage, or Assassin? even i dont know after playing her for 2 1/2 years

I have played 11 games with Elise. I have not won a single one.

Tourian2 votes

That's why. You cant possibly learn her mechanics in 11 games. I've got something like 80 games with her this season and a 60 percent win rate.

thought they just nerfed Elise till all the people with arachnophobia come back. Then they will increase her model size to 2X fed Chogath size and watch them all run away again.

wasnt there a riot art Quality control guy scared of her?

I never really understood why people hated on Elise so much. Of course she was strong and could carry games, but she was fun to play against. She is an awesome champion that was obviously gutted by Riot so that they don't have to deal with her... I never really played her, but I really miss her. Definitely preffer playing against her that Lee Sin, Shaco or fucking Gragas...

something needs to be done about her spiderlings dying in the jungle

Erockandroll1 votes

Not entirely sure how to balance her. They say her Primary role is Mage, yet she has very few AP ratios.

If we balance her around the Jungle, I would suggest increasing the max damage on her Q against monsters. Not by a whole lot, but enough to make sure she has decent clear speed.

Mindworm Jim7 votes

A soft rework seems in order to me. I still think it's a travesty that League's spider champion doesn't have any abilities based around setting web traps. Or maybe I just like zone-control mages.

Tsumikiri1 votes

So something like "Cocoon - now leaves a trail of web behind the projectile as it flies. The trail slows enemies that walk on it by X% for Y seconds"?

procrastinasian1 votes

maybe do something like Zyra's Q or Lux's E where her webbing stays on the ground for a while, slowing any enemies that walk on it, and stunning all champions inside for a short duration? Obviously the area of the circle would be reduced.

Champion Skin3 votes

I don't really play Elise myself... but from what I understand... her clearing isn't the problem... the problem is that Elise just doesn't do enough to make it worth picking her... she has a single target stun and meh damage (unless she goes full damage but then she is rather squishy and really vulnerable if she ever jumps in) and building tank on her is pretty crappy as well since you don't really have all that much utility...

Though the one thing she does decently well is clear the jungle with free spider abilities and having her spider from W heal her and her spiderlings can tank for her...

Hellioning1 votes

What she needs is a rework. She does basically everything when she's good; she needs strengths and weaknesses. Not as bad as Lee, but I still hate her.

Matthias91191 votes

I'm pretty sure she is slated for either a full rework or a pretty significant ability overhaul. The issue is that if they just undo her S4 nerfs she'll be oppressive again when the meta shifts away from jungle tanks.

The real issue is that the S5 jungle is really hard on squishy AP champs (except Fiddles, since he can sustain like crazy) and assassin junglers in general. Diana, Rengar, Kha'Zix, and Elise all took a big hit from where they were in S4.

She's not up for a rework. It wasn't long ago they listed the champs they want to rework and she wasn't on the list.

But they can buff her without just reverting season 4 nerfs.

Too bad she gets blown up from the slightest breath of the wind.

Tourian1 votes

All depends on if you can hit the stun and your positioning. If you're going ap with her she can blow someone up quite well also. Fairly good split pusher.

NeoScout1 votes

how about you build ap, assassinate and/or backdoor, I don't understand why you guys want elise to provide great utility + damage by building tank, she's not a tank.

cause back in her hay day, people built SotAG, for the lump sum of health. to give her good gank potential without being overly squishie. It was better for her to simply set up the gank while allowing her lane partners to take the kill. And the %HP damage she has means she doesn't need a ton of AP to do damage.

and Lissandra's passive ...

CatSith1 votes

a free spell isn't a passive? lol

Vekkna1 votes

I think the obvious solution for Elise is to simply let her caster form scale from AP and her spider scale from AD. This means she can excel in different roles without worrying about overload. Here are a few example changes:

  1. Rework passive to generate a spiderling on every 1 or 2 ability casts. Mage W releases spiderlings equal to the number stored. This fixes her mage wave-clear problem.

  2. Add AP scaling to cocoon duration and spider W attack speed bonus.

  3. Make Q scale from both AD and AP to retain form-swapping feel while downgrading overall utility.

  4. Make mage Q a DOT that attracts spiderlings

  5. Make W spiderlings leave behind venom puddles that slow (% scale with AP only) with a stacking dot

  6. Give spider form speed and defense buffs that slightly scale off AD only

So basically what you're left with is a spider AD that can go jungle or top and can build tank or fighter/tower-killer. You could also build AP spider tank for increased utility in cocoon stun duration.

Or you could build AP sustain that gets some burst and zone control late game with a 4-spiderling W and tank-dueling potential. You can swap to spider for execute Q or the utility of rappel, but you're not really doing any damage and risk losing spiderlings you need to get kills. If you're safe, you still have a tiny boost of turret pushing potential to balance your insanely slow mage AA speed.
