How The Fuck Was AP Kog'Maw Unhealthy?
Title.

LOL. I guess so, but he couldn't do that forever. Besides, if you're at really low health, he can STILL do that to you.
Also, it's important to note that AP Kog'Maw couldn't continuously spam his Ult, as his mana cost kept ramping up. Even if you built a lot of mana, it would take about 7 or 8 ults before he ran out.
There are so many ways around mana costs later in the game, such as having a seraphs embrace and/or a blue buff.
AP Kog'Maw was literally that GIF in URF mode.

+ 1800 range + low cooldown is why. Literally one blind skillshot hitting their carry before a fight or during a siege put them to the point where they had to recall or go lifesteal up or something. And generally he'd have enough mana to spam enough to land an ult on something.
The raw damage itself wasn't that big a deal, but adding the range and spammability is what created the problem. It's the same reason Nidalee's spears got a pretty good hit to their max damage, too. Landing one really long range, low cooldown ability shouldn't render a team unable to fight or defend a tower.
So why is Xerath allowed to have a really long range low cooldown ability? And Ziggs? What about them? Isn't that what an Artillery Mage is supposed to do? Isn't Kog'Maw's Ult named Living ARTILLERY? Besides, wouldn't those 3 items be the problem, and not AP Kog'Maw?
The combination of range/damage/cooldown for Kog's ult is incredibly more oppressive than that of a Xerath Q. 400 more range at max level (100 more even at level 2) with a 6-second lower cooldown for Kog's ult. Oh yeah, and Xerath had to wait 1.5 seconds minimum to get that max range (and the spell CD doesn't start until after firing the Q). Kog could cast his ult every second. It was literally just fishing for the back line. And once he did land one, especially with Rylai's, there was a good shot he could land successive casts until the target was either dead or out of range.
Ziggs doesn't even compare. Yeah, it's a lower CD than Xerath has, but if he's casting it at max range, the projectile isn't that difficult for a back line target to step away from. Not to mention that the front line (or even incoming minions) could outright prevent it from reaching the back line at all.
Fine. But that was his ULT. It's SUPPOSED to be better than a regular ability. It was also called living ARTILLERY. Plus, Xerath has a stun and more mana sustain in his kit, not to mention his ult is pretty damn similar to what Kog'Maw's used to be, especially now that you get more charges as it ranks up. As for Ziggs, he has more zone control and ways to keep you off of him.
One more thing. If you're at low health, Kog'Maw can STILL make you play the dodging game, except it does even MORE damage.
Something he can also do now is E, Q, and then R, and you're dead. I've done it to people, and I almost feel bad for doing it.
As an AP Kog fan:
By a certain point his combination of waveclear + range + strength super stalled the game. This could be best tweaked imo by toning down or changing E entirely, so we can emphasize the ult again. Gut E base/make it a dot/ new skill. Would also reduce the oddity of "his utility carpet spell chunked me and the whole wave..?" Game as a whole underrates waveclear and there's too much of it anyways.
He was a dps champ AND had the greatest ranges and strong poke. It felt dreadfull to play against if your team didn't have sufficient dive to close the game out.
Kog also got semi tanky from his build.
He had very weird numbers where pen was his best stat and he could go tanky ap rather than glass AP and still dominant the late game. This could easily be fixed too (though combining that fix with an ult with enough base dmg for AD Kog who likes attack speed centric builds would be tricky; but how about we go crazy with the ratio's AD & AP, lower the base and make gunblade Kog a thing)
Other than that though (tanky build and the huge range waveclear) nothing IMO. Both can be tweaked. In fact there are a fair number of champions in this game whose primary "Riot endorsed" design is actually just as toxic or worse IMO
I just want the real artillery 'R' back
Hmm. I never went tanky on him, and usually didn't build any magic pen. I'd build
.
His ult with ludens late game hurt like hell if you werent a tank
Ludens is an early game item lol. Plus Kog has atrocious AP ratios on his ult. It was literally .3
Did you ever play against it? You'd know how stupid that dmg was.
I used to play AP kog before the rework lol. AP Kog needs 4 items before he does anything really

Yeah, he took a while to get ramped up.

It was a 60% AP Ratio... And no. I never fought a AP Kog'Maw. Well, at least a good one.

Actually, it doubled on champions, so it was more like .6. Still not too high, IMO.

Only the base damage was increased against champions. Didn't touch the AP ratio.

Really? Then why the hell did people build AP on him?
His Q, W, E and R all scaled with AP.
It was a different play-style, but it was a fun one.

That's what I thought.
And yeah, it was very fun...

Isn't that the point of an ultimate, though? What about Cho'Gath, Darius, Garen, ect.? Plus, Luden's only increases the damage by a flat 100. It can make ANY ability hurt a lot.
