How do I adjust to other roles as a support main?

Back in Season 6, I could almost always count on getting support because no one wanted to do it. This season though, with Rakan being added in and champs like Lulu stealing the spotlight, a lot more people are playing support. The point behind this is that I used to be able to get away with only playing support, but I can't do that anymore because I can't just dodge one queue and get support the next time now. As such, I suppose I need to start to learn to play other roles.

What should I do? Who should I play? I've been queuing norms and trying different stuff. I've had plenty of ADC games so far and can absolutely not play the role well at all. It's not nearly as braindead as people probably think it is. I've also had plenty of JG games, and I've learned that I suck as JG as well. I can't seem to find the right balance between farming and ganking, and it's very often that I'm 1-2 levels behind our support. Also, Fiddle is the only JG I can play decently it seems. I haven't had enough top games to judge as that role seems to always be taken, guaranteed.

I assume Mid would be the best role for me to focus on outside of support as there's plenty of champs that overlap with it. Would Morgana be a good midlaner for me to learn? I feel like if I landed my Q enough I could make it work.

TL;DR: I used to be able to get away with playing support 100% of the time; can't do that anymore. Who should I play, where should I go, and how do I adjust myself to playing other roles?

Also: is it weird that I find AD champs 200 times harder to play than AP champs? I mean, it is a lot of right clicking but I think it's a lot more nuanced than just that.

Hello, you came to visit the right place.

I used to be a support main before Taliyah came out. My highest masteries are on Janna 210k, Thresh >80k Nami >40k

I'd recommend playing midlane. Like you said, there are champions that overlap. Morgana midlane is actually not bad. I used morgana mid to carry myself into platin in season 5, it was a great experience. Her blackshield is perfect to avoid ganks. If you see the jungler ganking, use your blackshield and enjoy the CC immunity.

The hardest thing as support main is learning to CS. That would be your main subject you should concentrate on right now.

As a support main, I suppose your map awareness is on point and you buy control wards when you can. That should NOT change when coming to midlane. Map awareness is one of the most important things playing midane. You're vulnerable from 2 sides, while the enemy have also good way to engage from behind you, by jumping over the raptor camp.

What I'm currently also trying to improve is: You don't have to make plays and be a superstar. It's totally fine if you even out the lane and don't die to your opponent. Especially if your opponent is an assassin that lives from your blood.

I didn't check your profile, so I don't know exactly how much experience you have playing different champions and roles, but that are the champions that I would recommend playing Morgana Annie Lux As a support main, you should be fairly familiar with them. These champion don't require too much knowledge mechanic-wise and are good to start your midlane journey.

If you feel more comfortable in midlane, try out Orianna Syndra Ziggs Ahri They require a bit more thinking and are harder to pull off.

You can also try out Taliyah of course. She is a bit harder than the other mages mentioned above and she doesn't have such ridiculous damage like Syndra, Lux or Annie, but she has a lot more utility to offer. Taliyah is a team based champion. She is perfect to snowball and helping out your team, while it is much harder to deal reliable damage.

Yeah, I've played Morgana a couple times midlane and could usually survive fairly well. CSing was my only issue though, I found it really hard to do because of her pool effecting all the minions around it. I tend to play really passive and am more reactionary than anything, so that's good. I've actually had enemy laners complain in all chat that I was boring them, but I suppose that it helps if it's tilting them.

I haven't played a lot of Lux to really comment on her, but the problem I have with Annie is that I can't really survive after I flash+stun+ult. There's been many instances where I wasn't even able to kill people with it, but maybe that's just because I was building her wrong or whatever.

I've had good experiences with Ori but she's certainly harder to play, I'm pretty bad at Syndra and Ziggs, and Ahri I haven't really played enough of to tell. I've actually found Taliyah really hard to play because of the thought required in to ulting with her. There's also her Q, which I find really awkward to cast (which the feeling is shared with Taric's E). Kassadin's weird because I usually do terrible with assassins yet I can play him pretty well. He's a lot easier to me than Fizz is; I just don't understand how people play him that well.

You have to upgrade W first when playing morgana mid, and it's really easy to farm, you want to hard push because you are quite safe because of your E, since your roams will not be very good you'd better keep your opponent on the lane.

Would Morgana be a good midlaner for me to learn? I feel like if I landed my Q enough I could make it work.

It lakes some "punch" in late game to be honnest. But it's a safe pick as long as you dont want to hard carry.

Karma, brand mid are fine as well, and they can also be supports.

Nautilus can be either a supp or a toplaner.

I can't say what lane to take. But definitely do not go a support mid, please please build damage. I have had multiple games with a support mid, and I say "Sweet a backup support to help me out." Then midgame comes and we lose every single teamfight. Not by much, but we still lose with them walking out. And the reason is support-midlane just wasn't dealing the damage you normally have and they were still squishy. Maybe you can be better than that. Maybe your teammates are better than that. But now I don't think it is such a great thing anymore.

If you do Queue Support/Mid, you might have better chance to get support. Mid is still most popular right, so it lowers the chance of you getting it. And you have more chances to trade into it.

I suck at ADC too. Just too hard. I think jg is ok role for support to pick up. But clearly a competent jungler will be way more efficient. Top/mid I try not to lose lane. So I safe farm. But you have to make sure your opponent doesn't roam. I have lost when mid gets the free roam because of me. (I also get overconfident and see an easy kill, to only realize I don't play this role I can't kill solo unless they are bad).
