So...Azir just Flat Out Doesn't Have a Passive in Dominion Anymore?

The Yetii Rider··41 votes·2,952 views

I get it. Raising turrets from the dead is cool. But isn't having a champion with literally only 4 abilities instead of 5 kind of harsh on 25% of the maps we have in the game?

Dominion IS a permanent game mode, right? You guys have made map specific changes around it before. Can't we just keep Will of the Emperor in Dominion only?

"What's Dominion?" Is likely what most of Riot is thinking to themselves, because clearly they have no knowledge of it, seeing as they have completely abandoned it.

Bergk1 votes

Dominion is the thing I do when I only have 10 minutes and still need to get first win IP boost. Seriously though, Co-Op VS AI (beg) on Dominion typically takes me 8-9 minutes, and it still gives you credit for "first win" if its available. But other than that I never touch Dominion.

There are literally bot accounts created just to fill Dominion and Twisted Treeline Queues so people can actually play the modes.

I'm pretty sure that's not why they're there. They're their, because any gold farmer who paid attention in their math class, (I.E. any programer capable of making these bots.) Probably noticed that these shorter game modes are better for XP/IP grinding. Win or loss, (most likely loss since their bots) they probably find that making programs to do that, grind faster on Dominion and Twisted Treeline.

Nsqui1 votes

I'm sure there are ones that are being used for these reasons, but there wouldn't be enough people grinding to make it so a queue was 6/10 or 4/6 bots. If the bots weren't in the queues people would be waiting closer to 15-20 minutes for a single queue pop.

He barely even has a passive on SR anymore.

And yep, he gets no passive in Dominion.

The passive change without any compensation was stupid as shit.

Marinaras Trench2 votes

well he was overturned, and his turret is fucking amazing, it prevents flanks completely

Durzaka2 votes

On a 3 minute cooldown. And requires to be near a turret.

So basically he now won't have a passive that is worth anything until atleast the mid game, and even then it is limited in its power. (also his turret is not nearly as strong as you think. Literally one minion wave reaching it is enough to make it irrelevant and be destroyed).

It's more about the single fight you can pull off after you summon the turret than about clearing waves.

Durzaka1 votes

The point in that single fight around your turret is going to happen so infrequently it won't matter. MAYBE once a game, if the enemy are stupid.

Otherwise they simply fall back for a few seconds, wait for a single minion wave to catch up and the ADC hits the turrets a few times and it crumbles since it has negative armor.

The AS Passive was boosted a bit, from 50% max rank to 60%.

Squidblimp2 votes

Actually, he was given compensation. Leveling his W now passively gives him attack speed, rather than buying CDR. It goes from 20% at rank 1 to 60% at rank 5.

Durzaka1 votes

That isnt compensation for losing half of his passive.

That requires him to level up a separate skill in order to get the attack speed. That is a nerf, not a compensation.

Squidblimp3 votes

It was intended to delay his midgame powerspike, but it is a buff to his late game by giving him extra attack speed at max rank. You would now max W 2nd. You can also skip put on getting 40 percent CDR and still have more attack speed than before. Potentially, Azir could run different times without CDR or just get one CDR itrm and then build AP and have more DPS than before.

Durzaka1 votes

Yes, except you are still going to be building into CDR because a majority of his power right now is in his Q. They should have hit that instead of changing the way his attack speed works.

As of right now though, losing the knock up has hurt him significantly more than the W change.

He basically has no reason to use his E right now except for rare escapes.

He still has another half of his passive

There are champs who barely have 4 abilities on Summoners Rift

What? No, didn't you read the patch notes? Will of the Emperor is removed entirely. Azir's passive from now on is only "Raise a turret", which doesn't function on Dominion.

l Main Renekton1 votes

His kit is already overloaded enough, though.

Minarde3 votes

Keeping Will of the Emperor would be a massive buff, since Azir would have 110% free AS between that and his new W passive. It'd be better to have neutral points he channels fire on enemies or just give him a Garrison-like effect when his capture is interrupted.

Kaeblen2 votes

On Dominion, the ability could easily be changed to: A) be re-modeled after {{summoner:17}} . B) keep the same effect, but have a much shorter Duration and Cooldown (it would activate on neutral or even enemy capture points) (say, 20-30 seconds for turret, and 3-4 times that for CD)

JangoELITE2 votes

I really dislike the removal of his cdr attack speed buff stuff because I felt like it was a part of what made azir azir. When I play azir I think I need cdr to have a lot of soldiers attacking fast and repositioning. I understand competitively he is too strong, however it is like you removing yasuo's crit multiplier. It doesn't feel like the same champion

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Yasuo could have turned out so much better if that was the first thing to go when he was released though...

CasterGilgamesh2 votes

no removing his stupid shield would have been better that way mages can poke him out of lane like any other assassin

Wheatloaf1 votes

As an Azir player, I understand why they removed it. Scaling CDR runes combined with his passive Is part of what made his mid-game power spike as ridiculous as it was. He still scales ludicrously well with CDR, as many spam-based mages do.

Thing is raising turrets from the dead isn't that cool. It's basically worthless against a smart team since they can bully you away from the tower, lower it's armour then take it for free gold.

I've said many many many times they should just remove it since it overloads his kit with a useless ability when the power could be put elsewhere.

I suggest he get this passive:

On spell cast Azir gains an Attack Speed bonus for X seconds this bonus increases based on Azir's level.

Well, being basically worthless against a smart team and rewarding them for playing around it means that he has good counterplay, doesn't it? And the passive itself is pretty strong when you catch an enemy between dead turrets, knocking them back with your ultimate and summoning the turret to trap them.

I feel like the passive is necessary for Azir's Zone Control theme.

Replacing his tower passive with an AS on spell-cast passive would be a buff, meaning Azir would have to lose power elsewhere to achieve a neutral overall power change. The Sun Disc is still a better passive, except on the Crystal Scar, than a bunch of other passives, like Lissandra's or Veigar's.

Also, personally, Azir feels like more of a zone control mage, since his DPS is dependent upon his soldiers' locations.

Lose power in his Q.

His Q is so overbearing an obnoxious to anyone laning against him because of how much damage he does with it in a burst.

Also I don't want Azir to be just a zone control mage. He's meant to be a hypercarry.

Auz the Ripper1 votes

Veigar's passive isn't bad at all, a bit uninteractive maybe, but not bad. Liss's passive is only bad because riot slaughtered her mana regen to "compensate"

A much better example is Zilean's passive, it nets a mere one minion's worth of XP every two waves if you're alone

Wheatloaf1 votes

If I remember correctly, he should be able to raise a turret in the center of the map, unless they changed that/never implemented it.

Minarde1 votes

That was only ever on Ascension, not Dominion.

Wheatloaf1 votes

Well that's silly.

Mishli1 votes

sure he has a passive, it's just he now gets passive attack speed on his w instead of converting cdr to attack speed

Minarde3 votes

You seem to have misunderstood. Azir used to have two passives. They shifted the CDR->AS passive onto his W, sorta. His remaining passive, raising a Sun Disc, requires a fallen tower to be used. Thus, he literally has no passive in Dominion because there are no towers.

Well look at a champion like Karma. Her passive simply reduces her ult cooldown when she hits enemies. That could have been put onto the ability itself like it is on pretty much every other champion. So basically she has no passive, even on Rift.

Dar Raksada1 votes

Same deal with Jayce.

Mishli1 votes

the point is he still gets passive attack speed, in fact, he now gets it for free with level instead of having to build cdr at all, it's just moved onto his w instead of his default passive, so he still has a passive, just not in the same spot

Minarde1 votes

Although true that Azir still has an AS passive, part of the issue has to do with context and precedent. There's been bad (Lissandra), underwhelming (Renekton), and boring (Morgana) passives before. If the champion is designed/balanced around having a weird passive (Syndra), that's alright, but that's not the situation here. Azir is the first case where a champion has no passive, but only on one map. This wouldn't even be as much of an issue if that one map was SR (though there would probably be much louder public protest), but the map in question here is the Crystal Scar, a map that Riot has generally ignored over the years. The concern, at least personally, is less about "Is Azir underpowered now?" and more about "Riot, do you remember the Crystal Scar exists?"

JustMyBassCannon1 votes

"He lost his CDR>AS conversion passive!" Yeah, and then he got the AS bonus as a W passive, instead. So now there's about equal reason to rank up Q, W or E, and he still gets the bonus AS (more, actually, as the old passive capped at 50%).

Sooo...he didn't exactly lose his passive. It just doesn't depend on his %CDR any more.

JustMyBassCannon1 votes

No, I understand it completely. People are complaining, because the innate passive slot on Azir's kit no longer does anything in Dominion specifically.

I'm pointing out he did not actually lose the passive AS bonus. In fact, he has to gain it from level 1.

But I guess that literally the only way to appease you people would be to have the bonus AS mentioned in his innate slot, and have it mention that it ranks up with his W, so people stop whining that he "lost" his passive that he actually hasn't lost at all.

He literally has all of the same pieces in his kit. One of them was just shifted from one slot and scaling on his CDR to another slot and scaling on that slot's rank. But I guess people have to pointlessly bitch about something because Riot did it.

Ch0c0lateJesus1 votes

His passive on SR past 30 minutes is pretty crap anyways.

It has the same stats as a normal turret, and turrets arent meant to scale well.

Honestly I think they need to ditch that passive altogether and give him something that isnt so gimmicky.

SquishyArchon1 votes

This thread would have been better if you didn't throw in that "25% of the maps" bullshit. Trying way too hard to make it sound more significant than it is.

omg 1 champ losing half a passive in dominion!!!!!!!!!! oooo the humanity. How will I ever get diamond rank in Dominion now?????????????????????????????

It is cute that you think riot cares at all about dominion. I have tried everything to get MWAB to start up a discussion again on it but he pretends not to notice.

Such is fate.
