When will they bring back the REVIVE?!

The Mayhem··68 votes·7,596 views

It seems like riot is starting to just create one-direction play to the league and completely abandoning the diversity part of the game.

While CLAIRVOYANCE AND CLARITY STILL EXISTS, REVIVE GOT REMOVED.

I know most people in lower elo tends to use it for trolling but they wouldve trolled no matter what and they STILL DO!

I was a big revive/tp user and I am very disappointed that Riot finally decided to put the final nail down on diversity.

Revive was already nerfed once and it was fine the way it was. It was x-factor that people could still use and I was one of the users.

Will riot ever bring back revive?

Seems like Riot really wants to abandon diversity part of the game where people can get caught by surprise and turn the game around as well.

WTF RITO. Plz...

You might ask if...

they will ever revive it.

The Mayhem4 votes

Maybe they are baiting this.

"Revive has revived!" or something liek that. I really hope they do bring it back.

Revive had so much use

Synx719 votes

The thing that just upsets everyone ( me at least), is that they didnt say a damn word when they removed it. It's just.. more like a "fuck you" to its playerbase. Who the hell decided , "oh, lets remove revive from the game because... i just want to!"

The Mayhem3 votes

Agreed

SpiritGear2 votes

I think they removed it for preparation for URF because they wanted deaths to actually matter in a game where you already re pawn pretty quickly but why they didn't add it back in after urf is unknown

Thats just stupid. They could've just disabled Revive in URF, no big deal. They removed it without any explanation. #CLARITY

revive sucked.

revive sucked.

As piss-poor of a response this is, at least it's more than what Riot gave.

at least u agree

at least u agree

But I don't agree...

They're going to do the same thing here as they do to all Revive discussions: ignore it and wait for people to stop talking about it. They don't want to come forth with their contradicting reasoning because they don't like being called liars or hypocrites when it comes to design and balance - therefore to them, it's better if they just ignore it.

Their egos override even the idea of a debate because they know they could be proven to be dishonest. It's disgusting and wrong, and they should know better than this by now, but why not bypass this whole thing and just give Revive back? After all, you guys really had no reason to take it away in the first place...

The Mayhem3 votes

True that. They have been lately. Riot is changing. What crooks....

Robert Smith6 votes

Bard saw how dangerous it was and removed it from the game

Eject Smurf Here4 votes

Most of people used it for trolling but I do agree they are going towards wrong direction.

I dont have a big opinion on revive but I do believe they need to stop getting rid of all spells when they keep all the other trash spells that nobody uses.

At least someone like PL used revive karthus and Hecarim also used rev/tp at one point. While revive could make an impact and some people loved it, I have no idea why Riot got rid of it when they wanted to keep clairvoyance (blue trinket wtf?) and what not. Clairvoyance

The Mayhem2 votes

Yeah I dont get the whole idea behind blue trinket and clairvoyance either.

Riot doesn't have priorities in order at all.

ZeeDrakon4 votes

the reason they removed revive was because the point of it (dying to then get into the fight again (with more movespeed)) is basically against the games concept

The Mayhem3 votes

What IS the game concept? What is it that is against someone like karthus or hec dying and coming back in order to turn over the fight to win?

There is no specific game concept that is solid set. the only rule that is set is destroy the nexus.

They don't want champions that are able to ignore the last couple of seconds of hostile fire, effectively traveling back in time for all purposes of comparison, for then come back with a vengeance against their now low resource opponents?

Traxinator2 votes

So basically you're describing ekko?

Señor Karthus3 votes

As a Karthus main I support this. I think the revive removal decision was stupid.

The Mayhem1 votes

I agree. They did not really give out a specific reason either

Rito doesn't like diversity in their game

If something is almost never used except in troll tactics, it's probably not something that should exist.

item 3085 Was only used on Kayle, and was considered troll on everyone else. What happened later? One of the very few things I can actually thank CertinalyT for is giving it another purpose with Kalista being made (no matter how much I want her destroyed.) Revive could have been the same way with interactions with future champions.

And please don't be one of those people that suggests Revive was only used by trolls and feeders and use that as justification for its removal. If I wanted to feed all game, having an extra death every 9 minutes won't make a difference in the outcome.

Yeah i wish for revive back not gonna lie.

WE NEED IT BACK

Ekko

When he dies, his Chronobreak clone disappears (as he already used Chronobreak to not "die" in his death animation), problem solved.

Mango Loco2 votes

We need the zombie Aatrox back revive, passive, guardian angel, and then full tank.

Sukishoo2 votes

lol I remember those days.

Doctor Dyment2 votes

I think they're reason for it was that only really one group of players used it consistently, and that was Karthus players. And it was a really easy spell to troll with, with entire teams sometimes going just mid with teleport/ignite and revive.

Zair Umbras2 votes

Am I the only one who actually clicked on the image and noticed almost all of those scores with Karthus are pretty damn bad for a Karthus..? o.o

The Mayhem2 votes

I still had 60% winning ratio. Thats pretty decent.

The Mayhem3 votes

pure score tells in some cases but with revive tp, it really is not that bad of a score either. You get involved a shit ton more with shit ton more dmg. on top of 60% wining ratio, I always had highest damage on either team by a landslide.

KDA doesn´t do anything for winning games, taking objectives is what counts - and a good karthus doesn´t hesitate to go in, deal enough dmg to peel them of from an objective and trade himself for a solid lead everytime the opportunity arises.

YES! THANK YOU! Someone else understands how this works.

Zair Umbras1 votes

Actually, KDA on Karthus is very important. Unlike many non-tanky champs, he has a HUGE team fight presence and even if he's not getting kills, he's getting assists with his ult, with his E, or simply just pressing W. Karthus is a high-presence mage who is known for ending games with an amazing KDA due to the fact that he is going to hit everyone on the enemy team and secure at least an assist off of it. To say 'KDA doesn't do anything for winning games' is silly. Your KDA does show your skill. If you're 0/12/3 on Janna or Soraka, you can say 'Oh, I'm a support, I don't have a good KDA'. No. You do, because it's KILL, DEATH, ASSISTS. You press a heal on one person, you bubble an AoE tank, you'll get the assists you need, just like Karthus pressing W and dying in the middle of an enemy team or even just pressing R, he WILL get the assists when played right.

The Mayhem2 votes

Participating is important. But kda stats does not reflect the players skills. Especially on revive tp

Tygger72 votes

Honestly I believe they removed revive because of Ekko. Given how long it takes to create champions (months to years) they probably thought Ekko would make it into the game eventually and saw a good opportunity to remove a factor that would imbalance him beyond any reasonable fixes.

A Miss Fortune1 votes

To be fair, there weren't a ton of uses for Revive.

Despite that, the times people found uses for them like Revive-Teleport Karthus was great and the thing is that it actually worked extremely well, was crazy fun, and it even made it into Ranked Games.

Riot most likely removed Revive because people used it to troll/feed. But honestly Flash, Teleport, and Smite were probably used more as troll spells than Revive so I believe in that logic, those three spells should of been removed before this one was.

Even if spells like Clarity, Clairvoyance, Cleanse, etc are still largely unused, I still find uses for them and they work really well on some champions and even then at the very least, you can still use it in Normal games.

The Mayhem2 votes

There wasn't a ton use for revive but there certainly were people who used it very greatly and had great time with.

I'm just weirded out that riot removed some of unused spells over revive which actually had better impact than some of the other ones.

BADxW0LF2 votes

Think of it as a "why keep something if .00000000001% of player base uses it"? It doesn't make sense to keep it because 12 people who play the game use it (fake statistics of course).

Fredart3 votes

Over my years playing league I ran across maybe 20 people using Clairvoyance . Yet it still exists....

Drackolus1 votes

I think the problem wasn't trolling - it didn't really so much "open your competitive options" as "lessen the punishment you take when you screw up." And since it cost you a summoner... You probably could have used flash instead of revive and just lived most of the times you would have used it. Karthus is pretty much the only champion this makes even a little sense on. And if we're talking about summoners that were only good on one champion - Surge was pretty good an plenty of champions. (Especially Cho. More big.)

The Mayhem3 votes

while this makes a good argument, there are times when revive outweighs flash. In terms of just pure 5v5 all in damage output, revive does so much more damage than flash. While flash can be used to maybe get in more better position to zonya or something like that, revive gives you full hp with crazy movement speed with tp.

Zair Umbras1 votes

Flash on Karthus lets you do what Fiddledicks likes to do. Jump into the middle of the team and AoE the every living crap out of them.

Delioth1 votes

I'm going to advocate that Revive, at its very core, promoted a negative outlook- you might not think it directly, but it's instinctive to the spell. When you take Revive, you assume you're going to die. Granted yes, it probably will happen- but if you only die twice that's a summoner you only used... twice- in the entire game.

It's the only summoner with an explicit condition that requires either good enemy play or bad personal/team play to be useful- TP can always be used somewhere because minions/towers, flash can always be used, ignite will be usable because it just requires being near-ish the enemy, &c &c- there's no outstanding play for them to be useful, just conditions that are constantly being met.

In addition, there's no time when Revive actually gives you something (except maybe the speed boost with Hecarim, but that's VERY specific)- every other spell gives something for you to work with; Revive simply cushions what the enemy gets. Revive just lowers the damage to your tower, your death time, and your lost CS- while TP gives cross-map movement/play potential in addition to 2/3 of the things revive gives; Flash gives an instant in/out card; Ghost gives engage potential from longer distance and through minion waves; &c &c.

The Mayhem2 votes

Revive indeed lacks in terms of how it can be used but on certain champions such as karthus, hecarim and even nasus or even aatrox, revive was used as a 6v5 method or a method to bait a fight which often in late game, leads to victories

3TWarrior3 votes

actually, with the revive/teleport combo, it could turn the game in your favor easily, especially early game. a tactic I used sometimes was to all in against bot lane while my support survives, reduce them to 30%, wait for them to chase my support hoping to kill him/her, then revive/teleport when they've overextended and kill them both instantly for a revenge gold lead. works like a charm if your opponents aren't careful, especially if your support wards the bushes

Delioth1 votes

However, it's the only summoner that requires you to give something to the enemy- they get gold for you to have a chance to use your summoner. Yeah, it may result in a lead, but it's less so than if you get a double kill off of regular summoner's usage because the gold lead you get is partially offset by the gold they got. And it immediately resets your bounty and gets you 1 kill away from a spree while giving the enemy more gold to work with- and thus higher chances to swing it to their favor.
