Swain needed to curb in his early game as the new masteries make him the most blatantly viable mid lane mage. He was also never trash, he is mana intensive so you must know how to prioritize effectively. Brand got the +20 mana treatment, meaning that it won't actually affect you if you are smart in spell usage. Lux players had been learning this all the way back from her release to 5.17 when she got the -20 mana treatment.

That all being said, DFT does need a huge looking at, even with the change (More damage but lasts half a second less?) it still adds an insane amount of hidden damage to the kits of champs that already deal abusive amounts of it innately. They have effectively restricted the pool of viable champs to an amount I haven't seen since S1 because it's all about who does the most damage to everything. The amount of games I've seen already running nothing but ADCs and Assassins is ridiculous. The only thing more ridiculous is the abusive amounts of unmitigated damage they can cause.
