If Riven got the same kind of "rework" as akali got

Irelia Bot··53 votes·3,292 views

You would have to wait for a 2 second cooldown between each Q use and you would be locked out on getting more then 2 passive uses every 8 to 4 seconds depending on level.

Her ult base damage would get a 40% reduction as well as the AD ratios being halved.

But you would get higher base health regeneration and the shield would last for 2 seconds up from 1.5

Many would cheer this change as being "good" but in turn it kills the champ.

Except Akali covers like, what, 700 units pressing R? Meanwhile, Riven has to use E and 2 Q's to cover the same distance.

Stop comparing 2 champs with 2 totally different uses and play styles. I get the Akali changes were terrible, but people already went over that. No need to put it in a different respective that doesn't actually make sense.

She ults to her death more often then not now.

It is like a 700 range suicide button.

People should have a fair chance to react against Akali. She's too sticky with too much damage.

OP is saying this "minor" rework is shit because it's completely changing the way she plays and not in a good way. He's using Riven as a comparison to show what a lame rework like this would look like on another champion. Another example I could give would be something like: Lucian Passive now has an internal cooldown E cooldown raised at all levels and going down to triple what the current cooldown is at max rank R ratio and base damage cut in half with a 1 second interval in between bullet shots

Yeah, but we don't need a champion side by side comparison. It makes absolutely no sense. You just need to compare the champ to it's former self, or before the changes happen. An Akali main made a nice, long detailed thread saying why it was bad and it was well received. Comparing a champion that does a completely different job, in a completely different way doesn't really justify anything.

Passive completely reworked and requires 2 auto attacks to get off damage. While 2 autos is not a problem with akali on live it is because you can get off 2 Q + ult combos off fairly reliably and it is actually really good with sheen/lich bane. First strike restores 5-60 (+30% AP)(+60% bonus AD) health. Her second strike (within 4 seconds) deals 10-100 (+50% AP) (+50% bonus AD) magic damage. Cooldown for empowered attacks is 8, 7 at level 3, 6 at level 5, 5 at level 7, 4 at level 9.

Q: unchanged

W: now is always placed where akali is standing instead of where akali wants it and has a mini blink of up to 250 range to what is the edge of the shroud.

E Cooldown inceased to 5/4.5/4/3.5/3 from 5/4/3/2/1 energy cost changed to 60/55/50/45/40 fro ma flat 60. If it kills a unit the cooldown is reduced by 60% and this includes minions and neutral monsters. NEW: [70/100/130/160/190 (50% AP)(70% Bonus AD)] OLD: [30/55/80/105/130 (40% AP)(60% total AD)

Ult damage reduced to 50/100/150 + .25 from 100/175/250 + .5 AP, cooldown increased from 2/1.5/1 to 2 at all ranks.

Her claim to fame of has been super sticky with really good damage over about a 2 to 3 second period but usually having to use her utl mroe then once to get a kill on evne a squishy..

It has been reduced to kinda sticky with ok damage and no real compensation that feels good.

Most any decent akali player will tell you that they learned to play around the pink ward counter since most everyone would use it.

I expect a fairly harsh win rate drop and her about 1.6% play rate to drop as well past the first few days of this hitting live.

60/55/50/45/40 fro ma flat 60.

Just nit picking here, but no. It's already 60/55/50/45/40 on live.

If it kills a unit the cooldown is reduced by 60% and this includes minions and neutral monsters.

Well at least I'll get 5 minutes of fun with jungle Akali.

as much as i dont like riven. shes a lot more manageable than akali. which every akali main i've seen so far has 70% winrate and averages 16 kills a game. there is literally not a whole lot you can do once akali finishes gunblade. you will. die.

You can: -respect the ult range when alone, it's 700 units -stick with the team and not fight her 1v1 -not be a squishy and buy some mr -get out of range if you get marked with Q to prevent a double Q proc combo -punish if she ever goes in with CC/damage -buy a pink ward -don't get caught out solo overextended -outduel her with a pink if she isn't snowballing

Hah! With her triple jump unless your someone like fizz or have an ally you wont escape if she has 2 charges.

Akali is SO HOT3 votes

Well why wouldn't you be near your team when there's an assassin on the other team that specializes in making picks?

Arakadia1 votes

I'm talking about laning phase primarily.

Akali is SO HOT3 votes

Her damage isn't high enough early game where she can kill you quickly. She'll usually even need more than 2 rotations to kill you. Maybe she can get a kill with 2 rotations + ignite, but you have plenty of time to react to her burst. She can kill you like that if you're afk in the middle of the lane, but a good player shouldn't have too much trouble against Akali.

THE RlVER KlNG4 votes

That's actually really funny. Akali players think she is so fun and fair to play against. Akali level 6 is one of the most cancerous matchups in the game. There is no reaction time to a triple dash with instant E on a 1 second cooldown.

Akali is SO HOT3 votes

Please don't post in this thread if you have no idea what you're talking about. Free bumps are always nice, but spewing out nonsense doesn't help the discussion at all.

THE RlVER KlNG2 votes

K I won't this is just an Akali circlejerk anyways. Sorry your champ got nerfed but no one likes to play against her and she's unhealthy for the game.

Also, anything that isn't a sycophantic Akali is so trash now rant doesn't automatically become nonsense because you decree it so. Just thought you needed to know that.

Who do you main now? Pls don't tell me Galio/Eve/Urgot

Well im back on my first and most consistent main of jayce (I'm the riven main of jayce players i think), unfortunately i love eve too, and galio but i dont touch them so i dont feel the way i did about the yorick rework (they made a great new champ who should have been his own champ, like idk a guy with wolves or something... Yorick's old R, w, and e were what made his kit iconic to me, not his shitty ass boring q)

but i'm also playing a lot of raka (Update definitely incoming) and graves (Yup update definitely incoming)

What i dont get is why they take these champs with good winrates and balanced kits like malzahar and they rip out a vital tool to add a gimmick(W with rylais amazing zone tool). and then overcompensate to add an op mechanic (his passive on rerelease) and then they say "Oh... we fucked up... lets just tweak his playstyle yet again" so that the reworked champ feels nothing like the actual champion

when you have 10+million players of a game, saying you can just gut a champ based on a 1% playrate is saying 100,000+ players don't matter...

I'm also of that camp that says.. "Lets not fix what's not broken"

Don't get why they're reworking zed, he has a healthy 50-50ish winrate with a kit i could already outbuild or outplay, and i could counterpick reliably, sort of feel the same way about fizz too.

Riot gets so worked up on some image of how a champ should be built and played, then when some other build comes along they either Nerf the items, the champ, or rework, in such a way that sort of hurts.

Example would be tank fizz, i like fighting a tank fizz, i like the way those mechanics interact. I don't play fizz, i do understand aiming for a 50% winrate. I don't understand trying to pigeonhole a champion into minor variations of a 2-4 essential item build.

It creates a toxic environment. Items are so specialized that if two items of that same specialization stack well with a champ then you get overpowered bs.

But they balance it by trying to minimize these interactions, whilst not acknowledging that with constant fluxuations of the power of items with champions and the shifting of metas there will always be unnoticed op combos, which to me says we should be buffing champions that aren't performing well for long periods of time. the idea is if everyone is op, noone is op...

RexSaur6 votes

Riven is a much better designed champion than Akali and shes on a much better spot than her, so she wouldnt need any kind of change anyway so this wouldnt happen (while akali kind of needed a proper rework).

Not saying the changes are good, theres also a few others that are completely half assed and shit like the fizz changes (which is basically completely nerfing an already subpar champion), honestly most of those assassins other than rengar/khazix got pretty much almost straight up nerfed (and for some reason they actually made khazix STRONGER than he already is).

ABlueQuaker3 votes

I feel like Akali needed a rework more like Katarina's. Right now literally all of Akali's kit is point-and-click that either 1-shots everything or is useless. Ya, know. The sort of polarising shit Riot tried to get rid of way back in Season 2.

dominusx1 votes

Aka an ap irelia

ABlueQuaker1 votes

No. Irelia is just as bad but she's in a spot right now where she feasts instead of starves and gets shut down.

I mean that Akali needs a more interactive kit with more meaningful interactions between abilities.

Keti3 votes

Well they have to do something to not make her completely aids. Stealth changes on their own buff akali in a major way and her kit is one of the worst in terms of game health.

QaznGod3 votes

If they hurt riven in any way you know riven mains will shit themselves

Hammermancer2 votes

Trundle Me think you just build akali wrong, you need to get item 3748 item 3025 item 3742 item 3022 item 3111item 3139

Hammermancer2 votes

Actually i just reread the passive, WHAT THE FUCK? That passive is retarded, christ give her bonus mr or some shit... At least have it go down to 2 seconds at 12 and 1 second at 16... that would be perfectly reasonably

Irelia Bot2 votes

The passive is the biggest kicker in this whole mini rework. It seems to have trouble flowing with akali's kit.

Akali is SO HOT1 votes

I'd definitely take the new crappy passive over the shroud blink bs if it came down to it

LankPants1 votes

At 1 second you'd start to see AS based builds, because if Akali can proc the passive continuously it is incredibly powerful. Due to the frames on Akali's AA there's an attackspeed you could optimise for to proc your passive completely every 3 AAs, somewhere around 1.5.

People would work out this exact number and optimise a page and build for it at level 18.

Saianna2 votes

Riot ~~nerfing ~~ reworking Riven?

Nope, not gonna happen. Too much favouritism has been spilled to make Riven in what she is now.

Tik1152 votes

Not to mention they did have a rework on the PBE for her awhile back (Kinda, she was given an "Edge" resource to proc her passive) and people complained so Riot scrapped it

Meanwhile people complained about Sonas rework and they just laughed and pushed it through...

I'm hoping Irelia gets a similar rework tbh.

Anonagon1 votes

I don't think the Akali changes should be as much of a net nerf as they are, but I think that the only change that's genuinely bad from a conceptual standpoint is the W. I like the new passive (though the current numbers look weak) and I like the idea of changing E to be a worse DPS spell and a better burst spell (which is what I'm assuming the change of "higher cooldown, higher AP ratio" is supposed to accomplish, even though the exact tuning on it looks to be a net nerf)

LankPants1 votes

and I like the idea of changing E to be a worse DPS spell and a better burst spell

It doesn't work out that way though, because Akali's E was on a short enough CD to use twice in a burst combo. There's only two cases where Akali's new E outdamages, if she's in a creepwave or camp she can reset her E to have a higher DPS, otherwise it only outdamages if you can use it so many times that the damage/energy becomes a thing.

Akali is SO HOT1 votes

The thing I like about her E being on 1 second cooldown at max rank as that it is a really punishing spell for players that don't know how to use her because just spamming it will dumpster your energy bar and make you useless. Akali mains know how to use it well and when to use it so, in a sense, this change makes it so noobs won't screw up with her as much, but hurts Akali mains that already know how to use the ability well.

The intent was to probably get rid of Bruiser/Tank Akali maxing it and spamming it in lane, but with all of the other changes coming in with her rework that change won't really matter and hurts Assassin Akali more than it does Bruiser Akali. Pretty lame. The damage is only slightly higher after you get some AD so basically nothing changed aside from tripling the cooldown at max rank.

The point was to remove Akali from the game. -Nerfed AP Akali to the point where glass cannon Akali kills a squishy more slowly than your average bruiser This leads players to adopt the AD Akali build. Which means she will still be viable. We can't allow that now, can we? So let's take the AD ability and stick it on a 3x CD so Akali can't even get good DPS out of that.

Basically reworked Akali is going to be a tank that can't tank anything because she's untargettable. But at least she might survive 8 seconds in the middle of a teamfight against a light AoE teamcomp.

I like Riven how she is now. A squishy brawler who you can abuse early or late depending on your champ and how you and Riven play the lane.
